Recommended Posts

OK, let us enjoy the last few spots from April.  Mazda 626 starting to get a bit bangernomical.

001.thumb.jpg.020fc01e19454bb1008226592e2c1482.jpg

JDMs interest me; this one is a Nissan Tiida.

002.thumb.jpg.2addb4430cd747f2040b2ff61704e958.jpg

"Who Killed Bambi?" sang matey out of Tenpole Tudor. A few similarly monikered camper vans do live on tho.

003.thumb.jpg.e51b75523bc9399f60d44e0c8140b6dc.jpg

Quite an early W202.

004.thumb.jpg.e5b79e4bdb7b616c2e75737b4011b22f.jpg

A very early S-Type.

005.thumb.jpg.f1ea15acbe2bea5aca99c4b89bffcfef.jpg

Quite a bangernomical Corsa B.

006.thumb.jpg.d2e8f8a2aa99874869fafd9b3f9f4cbf.jpg

Is there a "Preview" button amongst all these new-fangled changes? Can't see one so here goes.....

Hello, is there anybody out there? Just nod if you can hear me.

It seems that I missed adding a few spots from the end of April; I blame forum turmoil meself.

Hanging on or just hanging.

apr01.thumb.jpg.a68f1af44990ebe29157286656005550.jpg

Impressively filthy in places.

apr02.thumb.jpg.5f9b77bc38542a4bc5cf7d2e651b5547.jpg

Nice little Pug

apr03.thumb.jpg.1e8416e315bbe970dc2b79e838ba40a2.jpg

Don't see many Signums these days.

apr04.thumb.jpg.cc39537d12dedeb8655842804495e581.jpg

Nor Phase 1 Megane Scenics.

apr05.thumb.jpg.8f38d2c91caa3adf171029ba586f4c67.jpg

Daft stickers aside, this was a pleasing spot.

British Marques Day at Brooklands; a hot Japanese model

You will get noticed if you drive a three-wheeler.

apr10.thumb.jpg.8b05380027f24d088f8cae745c5f8651.jpg

Oooh, a Saab wagon.

apr12.thumb.jpg.7febcb79004ac999958f746f80e5b906.jpg

Highlight from within the venue: 2300 SD1 that was languishing in a shed for 18 years and has recently been brought back to life.

Extraneous badging makes it hard to work out what we have here but I happen to know this is an Ital that's been fitted with a Marina front end and a Rover M-Series.

That Marina front end:  (LIBRARY PIC)

Quite liek the lack of wheel covers here; might be futureshite.

Quite fancy a Suzuki Baleno estate because reasons.

So there's this annual event held in Bushy Park called "Chestnut Sunday". All the chestnuts come out or summat, fucked if I know.

Hydrogen-powered cars are one of our possible futures and I'm comfortable with that. In this instance, it's a Toyota Mirai.

may15.thumb.jpg.17fc7340f92ca186c3dd01eb6a26f2a0.jpg

Back in the olden days, I presume one could get not-Whippy cones from a vehicle such as this.

may14.thumb.jpg.ca30e059512932d005272d57ca3fd980.jpg

By golly, this was a treat.

may16.thumb.jpg.0a4b2e49f7853cb7e60705bb6b01757a.jpg

Probably should have stuck this in the Truck thread but couldn't find it right now, soz.

may18.thumb.jpg.9978e47972b1f665bcb4e213811aca07.jpg

That's an early one was my first thought and my second thought was Dave Numbers.

may24.thumb.jpg.28481ef018306c8c8048dae759671066.jpg

Look at the arse on that. I heart late '90s Gixxers

may17.thumb.jpg.8707bbc1585dc813e34656ebe089eb2c.jpg

Similar colours but quite the different motoring experience.

may19.thumb.jpg.59e21cf5bd59f08745084deaec45c436.jpg

Still seems odd seeing the MG octagon on a thing like this

A couple more from Bushy Park: why anyone would want a 1940s BMW outfit built in 21st century Russia is beyond me. Actually, I'd love to have a go on one; not in the sidecar tho. Unless there was a machine gun fitted to it.

may26.thumb.jpg.c4c62fb34252a47a24328d3f5760e1bf.jpg

Oh yeah. DEFINITELY want.

may25.thumb.jpg.d8692f90d47fba19cb29a80541928a4c.jpg

Quite the battered Xantia.

may27.thumb.jpg.9a2b702696b511672981d8cce251d596.jpg

The Triumph TT600 was a bit* of a disaster. Appalling fuel injection on the early ones and "is that a CBR600?" styling did for it. This is a later one and nowadays looks quite decent in an understated way IMO.

may27a.thumb.jpg.ba65a987af03b7114141d2b27d98653f.jpg

Auction 'shite. "YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO WAFT IN IT" was not stated in the catalogue.

may32.thumb.jpg.a705a9e333654eb0f91a0f355bf8ebd2.jpg

From what I've read, these were a right old lash-up. Interesting to see one tho.

Guy Salmon of Guildford produced a run of limited edition "Jubilee" XJ-S. Looks good in its 1980s stylee but why they slapped a miniature Rover R8 facelift grille on the front of it is unclear. Especially when the R8 facelift wasn't even a glint in the collective eye of Rover's styling department.

A brief intermission: just for a minute, let's pretend it's 1977.

tyj499s.thumb.jpg.c1d3d77b85feaf2c71aaa50b7f053af1.jpg

I only recently became aware of the Avensis Verso; HML suggests there are more than a thousand still out there.

Re-spot in a better photo (2). The wheel cover on the front is mega-rare I'm told.

may39.thumb.jpg.db981509eaa1ecfd764dc0af77dc5412.jpg

Dunno what the Vauxhall equivalent of OSF is called (OSV?) but this looks like it might be. And it's none the worse for it.

may40.thumb.jpg.517efdb18da45c6b8d11231556ac89df.jpg

Had I seen this on the street and not in the Brooklands Museum car park, it would be on the shortest of shortlists for Spot Of The Year.

Time flies when you're having fun*

June seems an awful long time ago; better get cracking then. First off, a slabside that doesn't look like it's been through a hedge any time recently.

jun001.thumb.jpg.641d6dbb932bae6161f5de6e0363fb36.jpg

A re-spot from 2017; it's decayed a bit since then.

jun002.thumb.jpg.83dccf88ad40f2bc71a88169c7e94e8b.jpg

Conventionally sized number plate all wrong here.

jun003.thumb.jpg.258a2d227e21c327ffbc5afaefb14829.jpg

I thought these were Korean but from what I can gather, they're all-American. Had to delete an hilarious* gag that used the made-up word "Amerikorea".

jun004.thumb.jpg.c4ea460b95e5b7519b1679875fb53f1e.jpg

Oooh but this was nice. Road tax ran out in 1987 and I'd love to know why it's been hiding for thirty two years.

jun005.thumb.jpg.99d05eb15b7d7340efaf7881f327c4ac.jpg

What it doesn't need is a conventionally sized number plate.

An old Saab trailering a very old Austin isn't an everyday occurrence.

Started life in 1950 as a Humber Pullman. Now missing a roof and gaining a Jaguar V12 under that bonnet.

In current news, I may have been a little premature in declaring my Spot Of The Year up there. Meanwhile, back in the June it's Bushy Park again; this time it's the Hanworth Classic show.

Imagine my "first one I've ever seen" excitement; a Gordon-Keeble.

Lazy spotter is lazy, despite having his own thread. Much updating to do.

It would appear that a 'shiter is working at the Philippine embassy.

A few JDMs; Odyssey looking like the station wagon crossed with an MPV that it is.

I think of these as a more substantial 900, which is what they are I suppose. It's all in that extra zero.

An American school bus converted into a motor home? You can flip out that STOP sign (not pictured) and stop no-one. I quite liek that wing mirror doing an impression of The Saint playing a guitar.

The annual holiday in that there Wales turned out to be quite the spotting trip. I think the family had a good time or summat, fucked if I know.

I'm told that the Austin Paralanian was quite the desirable camper at the time.

If there's anyone in Marketing or Advertising reading this and who hasn't already killed themselves (obvs), I'm sure there's a market for the Ford Mavis, the Ford Elsie, the Ford Dorothy and the Ford Agnes.

Please put my name on the waiting list for the Ford Fanny.

In other Ford related things, a re-spotted Escort.

Seeing an MGB roadster in a shop window could be described as mildly interesting at best but this particular one is built around a Heritage shell and is powered by an electric motor. It's the future, today. And like all technology that's ahead of it's time, it's prohibitively expensive.

£105,000 to you, sir.

Before I die, I hope one day to find myself behind the wheel of an electric Mk1 Cortina that's been 5D printed or summat.

THE ice cream van for people of a certain generation ie: mine

Don't recall seeing a series 1 facelift Sirion before now.

I may have been a bit premature back there in May when boldly proclaiming that the '85 Corolla was my Spot Of The Year: can you tell what it is yet?

Just gave the like button a pounding! Great spots there sir, as usual.

I used to look after a red Honda Ballade when I was in the garage, nice car. I always remember the owner too, a Mrs Mchopperdink... a hell of a name!

My Grandad had a Talbot Horizon too, his was a 78 T reg (I think) in a pea green colour with beige interior. I remember going out in it with him, usually with my cousin too. No seat belts in the back and he had two very old sofa cushions in there for us! I remember fondly bouncing around in the back of it as he drove us around. His driving was terrible by then too and my mum hated him taking us out in it! Fond memories, I’d have one!

If anyone was wondering, here's that 308D in all it's glory*

There's a selection of old wrecks on the way now; let's start with a trio of Minors and a Traveller.

Unusual to find a Cappuccino in a state such as this but then again, it's unusual to find a Cappuccino full stop.

It never ceases to amaze me when I see what is still out there (P5s were inaccessible for decent photos unfortunately).

1.3 L 4-speed sounds very much like bASe to me.

A few "Max Power" Barry customs ought to be preserved really. Probably not this GTI tho as the mods are quite restrained.

I'm guessing this 1100 is a parts donor....

In the same yard, a 110 awaiting attention I hope.

If anyone might be wondering, here's that MGB.

R107 waiting for prices to hit E-Type heights perhaps.

  • 3 weeks later...

The previous generation looked quite sensible and then someone in the Hyundai design studio dropped the brown acid.

No longer an everyday sight. I had a go in one when they were new and I liked it.

Race cars and their drivers get all the attention but I''m always much more interested in seeing the support vehicles.
