How much shite is too much shite? Plant Season

Recommended Posts

I must admit, I've been wanting* a car with the engine in backwards for quite some time. I suppose you might know of...several. And as you seem like the right person to ask, "Why'd they do that??"

Or is this just one of life's enduring mechanical mysteries?...

Cracking chod. MOAR!

*dreading.

Number 24 - 1933 BSA 10hp Peerless coupe. Believed to be the first of 3 built, all of which survive with another in the UK and one in the states. This car pains me every time I look at it as I was ripped off by a restorer twat of a con man 20 odd years ago, meaning many thousands of pounds was spent on a complete and good condition car for it to be returned without an engine and gearbox and quite a few other bits missing. It has sat in the shed for the last 20 years as it would be a simple restoration, but I cannot get the enthusiasm so as soon as I find the paperwork it is going on the market.

Number 26 - 1971 Fiat 500. Fully restored and Moted and laid up for the winter. Great fun, had a brilliant 4 day tour of the lake district with it this year. I was going to sell it before being talked into the Lake District meet, but enjoyed it so much now I am not sure. I still want a Messerschmit (sp?) and when I get one this will probably go to part finance it.

Number 27 - 1968 Rover P5b 3500 V8. Known as Delilah (reg is WYY) and a lovely place to be. Now has about 56k miles on it and has been to Le Mans twice. Not used this year, but thinking another Le Mans run with it may be on the cards next year for the Classic.

Number 29 - The first of the Rolls' a 1935 20/25 Limousine. Not been used for a couple of years but will be out again next year. This has done the 939 mile trip from Aberdeenshire to Le Mans twice! Nice old bus, popular with friends for weddings (of course) but cramped in the drivers position being a limo

Number 30 - the other Rolls. A 1934 Rolls Royce 20/25 Sports Saloon with art deco bodywork. Bought with a genuine 11k miles from new, this car was laid up in a barn during the war, where it remained afterwards becoming a dog kennel! Dug out in 1986, it was restored (not the best) and returned to the road in 1991. It now has about 15k miles on it. I fitted a transit overdrive unit (rully reversible) meaning it will cruise happily at 65mph all day. It has done the Le Mans run once, and is the option to the P5B for the classic next year. It is superb fun flashing the huge P90 headlights to get the BMW to move out of the outside lane of the motorway at 70mph! :-) Braking distances have to be remembered as it is on rod brakes!

Number 23 - If I could only have one car to do everything, this is the one I would keep. A 1978 Bentley T2 with Mulsanne Turbo running gear. Luxury, performance and a glorious exhaust note! If it wasn't for the ruinous spares and repair bills, this would be perfect. Has been to Le Mans and almost certainly will do so again.

I didn't realise this was you! I posted this beast as spotted on Blatters a few months ago.

I don't know if I should have more envy for your collection or your sheds.

Obviously you lot are as daft as I am, it is just I have had more practice!

OK, back outside again, lets see what we can find. Number 31 - modern shite, the reason that sparked of this thread, this is a 2001 POS VW Golf 1.4 that will not run for more than a second. Thanks to people on here I believe it is an immobilser problem, and I am currently awaiting delivery of VAGCOM to see what is what. At least this car has reminded me why I hate moderns.

Number 32 - more modern shite. Actually, this has been the best, most reliable car I have ever owned. A 2007 Saab 9-3 1.9 TiD SportsWagon, Bought 6 years ago with 89k miles, now has close to 140k with tyres, brakes and a few minor bits being the only expenditure. This car is my long distance and tow barge, and it redularly does the Le Mans run of 939 miles, often in a oner. Averages high 40s which is good for an automatic. Hopefully it will last me at least another 6 years.

OK, are you sitting comfortably? Well, I will begin continue. I have taken photos of most of the remaining collection, but there were too many and my phone battery went flat! I will get the rest tomorrow if I am back from the local Classic auction in time, if not it will be Sunday.

This thread just gets better and better. So many in your collection that you have run the battery flat in your phone without even taking them all, but yet you are still searching for more tomorrow. There is only one thing I can say - Good Hunting :)
