🚨L1's euro♦️ shenanigans 🍷🚨

Guess your catchment area is smaller than mine but I got thirty odd 2x2 council slabs for free off someone on Facebook marketplace.

People are constantly replacing serviceable stuff with something a different colour etc and you have to pay to tip slabs and rubble round here so offering them free is cheaper than binning them

Aye, that usually means collecting them though!
Yeah even though they weren't far away collecting them was a bit of a ballache, I did 2 trips and was probably still over on rear axle weight as my van only has about 800kg payload, I think the slabs are about 40kg each.

Plus handballing them on and off again solo, I was knackered.

The woman shifting them was glad though, as usual when giving something away she had had about 3 people that were definitely coming of which 1 actually turned up and he only took 4 of the slabs. Whereas I came in a van and just took them all.

The ones I bought for the summerhouse base were £150 delivered, pretty sure they were £2 each to collect on FB marketplace earlier in the week.  He's very welcome to the money for the load on his van and the effort!

Probably another good reason to put off a garage for a while!

Shame I never thought  that before I started,  there are mornings I stand drinking coffee looking at it thinking why the fook did I even start this haha.

fill up in no time

No kidding

I went out to check on the hens, and had a look whilst I was out.

The brown drainpipe gives virtually nothing as the shed is under a tree.

I let three inches of water out to see if I could get an idea of how fast it was filling up

Bear in mind this is three bits of gutter resting one on the next, dripping into that tonka for the kids and the green lid thing for the hens.  It's not sealed, has no end caps, and the downpipe is crudely screwed on - it filled back up to overflowing in three or four minutes

Just to keep the thread up to date, today the 206 left to chez @Grumblespeed

this leaves me with a 31 year old 205 as the only working car for a family of five ( three under 5) who live 12 miles from a post office.  Ideal*

Partner is currently having some BSI issues which hopefully won't be a nightmare to sort..

Be fine, if the 205 was perfect small family transport 30 years ago, must still be perfect small family transport now surely👍. They"re growing up in a lovely spot though, sure it"s even better when it's not chucking it down eh. Wish I could have had a peek today.

Well, this has been working brilliantly for everyone who isn't my wife squeezing in the middle in the back.  The 205 has had a bit of a splutter when the coil failed on the way home from TWIXFEST and recently the wiring for the starter is playing up so it's not engaging the starter when hot.  A new live feed from the battery with a relay to operate it is inevitable, as yesterday Mrs_L1 stalled and couldn't get it restarted so got the bus home instead, leaving the car to be SPOTTED by a local FOEMER

No description available.

Thankfully @Jimbob McGregor needed a ride home from the MOT station so he used it for that, and it was fine.   However, confidence is a bit lost as a car for her to run around in with three kids.

Thankfully @Tickman reminded @320touring that he was supposed to be selling a car on behalf of his family, so I made his job as easy as possible.

With many, many thanks to @Lacquer Peel for taking the time to drive a big car with black leather in the hot sun for three hours.

A fair whack of progress last night.

I ran the CR-V up to the garage so that the wheels could be removed and run up to have a set of Continental all season tyres fitted.    Shortly afterwards, Mrs L1 went off to get some cash to pay the windowcleaner.  And couldn't get back..

A quick whack on the starter solenoid got it going again but it's not running right.

BUMHATS.

Once the kids were in bed, I head back to the garage after murdering a couple of cocks.

Somehow this place seems to be filled with my cars.

Jimbob cracked on with the 205 whilst I faffed around under the CR-V.    Firstly the EML is on and it's throwing a code for the lambda sensor.

Let's have a look.

Ah, this might be the issue:

Moving on.  What else is there:

PXL_20210913_192140734.thumb.jpg.3dbfc946c774ad4ba6ff6299b65cb9bc.jpg

That should be OK to sort out.  What else?

PXL_20210913_194852730.thumb.jpg.b576e9a66225bc7eed3af25d6bbc0278.jpg

Oh.

PXL_20210913_210811706.thumb.jpg.c181b42dcfb31fff543a32409112d2d1.jpg

That's better*

Bit more?

Betterer

Now, what about the 205?

Jimbob had nicely wired in a relay to allow a fresh wire to carry power to the starter motor.

signal-2021-09-13-222029.thumb.jpeg.17165e93904c0407f60d794a3401ceb4.jpeg

Time to check it.

signal-2021-09-13-221458.thumb.jpeg.2ebfb13582e64d25df1aeb335f7a52bd.jpeg

Hmm, that's quiet.

Relay is fucked!

Insert a nice new yellow Siemens one

PXL_20210913_212533989.thumb.jpg.876a99fc904de3ebff515166fc46cdb0.jpg

Stuck a new handbrake cable in too, then time to head home:

PXL_20210913_221410768.thumb.jpg.f72bcecfe14fe236f1c9a29893474d94.jpg

What a transformation! Starter kicks in strongly, an air leak above the carb sorted means it's pulling well and the handbrake is back to rights.   HUZZAH!

205 got a new engine mount tonight which has improved it more than I expected.

I didn't get a picture, so instead here's one of @Jimbob McGregor's Puh for Panda with the Maisie Mountain Mountain Moon in the background

Was the 205 kangarooing under power take up/let off? Can I ask which you replaced please? Our 106 was improved somewhat by the replacement of the rear mount but it's still a bit more bouncy than I'd hope it to be so I'm looking at which one to do next!

It's the answer to the question nobody asked.

Can you fit eight 215/65r16 tyres, half on wheels, in the back of a 205.

yes. Yes you can.

Last time I did that I got done for speeding.

Copper followed me on a motorbike.

Kept directly central so I couldn't see him in the Mirror.
