loserone
The mirror adjuster knob on the 306 was snapped off, so I bought a used one on eBay which arrived Friday. Was told under no uncertain terms was I permitted to work on the car before going out today, so got my oldest to smuggle the switch into the car. Then proceeded to change it whilst waiting near the cash machine. As a bonus the front windows are now faster. Woo! Family definitely enjoying roof down fun, but aware I need an economical estate car that can be dailied by Mrs L1. loserone
Aaanyway. 306 is now snuggled up in my lockup for the soggy winter. I needed* something with a proper roof with which to deflect the rain from the family. Ooops . It's git fun. 425 miles into this tank, I probably* need to fill up and work out the fuel economy. I think this is a better real world proposition than a 205. I've had two 205s this year, a 1.4 CJ and a 1.8 NA XUD; alright, neither were GTIs. No, it's not as pure, or raw. But it has working climate control and auto wipers. Abs. Airbags. Remote stereo. Sound deadening. Remote locking that works. The plastics aren't degraded so they break when you touch them. And it was £460 where an equivalent 205 would be 10x that. Lacquer Peel, clayts450, Jim Bell and 2 others

Dick Longbridge
Hope you don't mind me asking on your thread - there's a Leaf for sale for fairly cheaps locally. It's apparently got eight bars of electramatrics left and does around 45 miles off a charge. Is there any way of replenishing the existing battery, or is it basically screwed? loserone
You can get an independent specialist to take a few of the worst cells out and replace with good ones from a crashed leaf. It's pretty common now, should get back to 11 or 12 bars, and cost about £1500 Dick Longbridge

loserone
Looks like it's had a little knock in the rear, but nothing too serious. Sills on one side need a dry off and underseal, but no rot yet. Other than running damned rich and failing pretty spectacularly on emissions it seems pretty good. Helpfully I have an entire spare drivetrain / front subframe / exhaust for one of these so @scaryoldcortina is going to plunder for a lambda sensor and service it next week then try again Jim Bell and Lacquer Peel
djim
@loserone sorry for the slight thread hijack but when you had your legacy you said you had a few wheel bearings replaced. When they went bad how did you know which one to do? My Subi Outback has a drone related to road speed that I suspect is a bearing but jacking it up and spinning / flexing the wheels doesn't help me diagnose as there is so much drivetrain that moves with the wheels, even in neutral, I can't tell if they are turning smoothly or not. if one is bad will it be super obvious? loserone
The noisy one was actually OK in terms or smoothness and tightness, but was obvious when using a stick-to-your-ear at 50mph (get someone else to drive). Once you start you will want to have all of them done, one corner getting quieter will make another corner seem loud. djim
