Well I successfully bailed from getting what seemed more and more likely to be a shit 406.

Also, the 206 got a Christmas card.IMG-20191220-WA0013.thumb.jpeg.ba053a59f93e8a04f996c1e92134e994.jpeg

Mental, but I suppose when you've had a car 20 years from new they get under your skin.

Looking back, I don't think I posted my account last year.  HMSC will no doubt be in touch to check on them.  Meanwhile, this year started pretty tamely with only two cars

The family Legacy:

IMG_20191102_120851.thumb.jpg.477e51e0acfea1af5a6ec19d282da378.jpg

Which @HillmanImp took on recently;

And the leaf.  It's not interesting, nobody cares, I don't have any pictures of it.

Oh here:

IMG-20191031-WA0017.thumb.jpeg.0ee1d0c95a51bc135febdb5ea74e80b1.jpeg

We still have that.

I also had this:

IMG-20190318-WA0000.thumb.jpg.c961556e6795065821be680e2232917c.jpg

Which is shown in its lighter configuration prior to being weighed in, ready to help this sad panda:

IMG_20190130_175515.thumb.jpg.f24e7cebcce326f67152228fccd4e7b7.jpg

Which I also still have.  Anyway, that wasn't good enough for @TontonTdB who needed a winter beater, so I bought this from @sporty-shite:

IMG_20190113_101219.thumb.jpg.3ea7566eb822a9f894e083e734d295e2.jpg

This was ideal for the duration and generally great fun.  Then it HGF'D, so I sold it to Scary.

Tonton got married in May so the legacy did a few miles down to Toulon and back, inspiring a need for a comfortable French car.

So I bought this from Max:

IMG_20190826_111535.thumb.jpg.bb468ebcb32d68885de893723dea1f0c.jpg

Which is amazing and she still has, but probably not the right car for a family trip to Toulon.

So I sold it to Mrs L1 and bought this:

IMG-20190719-WA0066.thumb.jpeg.76e37564172cf93ca3e1229818eb3232.jpeg

Which was hilarious, but not for me.  So I lost lots of money on it and sold it to @castros_bro

Meanwhile @Jim Bell had bought a 405 saloon which was broken, and he sold it to me for cheaps.

IMG_20190725_091501.thumb.jpg.fb925b27356caf08fd0c7f530d429be1.jpg

This was great, but needed a thermostat housing (donated by the 405 above) and all new brake lines, so it got roffled off to @Cavcraft when it needed tyres, because buying tyres would have been more expensive than buying this:

IMG_20190810_150346.thumb.jpg.2c52b8a18807f2a6061705fb50287c3e.jpg

Which is fucking awesome, or so I thought until @TheDoctor got his mitts on it and revealed to the world how shit it was and how a Perodua Kelisa with mole grip flared wheelarches was a much better car.

With that roffled I bought what I should have got in the first place:

IMG_20191121_152936.thumb.jpg.1965753b4fdfd032914e9070bbeb0dda.jpg

Which I still have, and is probably the best car I've ever had.

Somewhere in this I briefly owned this ungrateful piece of shit after a crap @Lacquer Peel auction, clocked it and drove it off a short cliff just after the MOT, before selling it to @davehedgehog31

IMG-20190812-WA0010.jpeg

And I shall quote this here for posterity

Update on why the LEAF looks silly.

Recently there's been some vibration building up at speed, though stopping the car stops the vibration for a while, usually until set off again by a particular road surface.  Initial thought was it was the wheel arch liner, catching in the wind then rubbing on the tyre, but after a week the noise came back with the liner still firmly reattached.

Yesterday I put the back wheel on the front.  This made the car completely undriveable above 30MPH.

Took the wheel along to a place in Catchgate this afternoon, and the chap spun the wheel round on the balancing machine before turning it on.  The rim of the wheel moved in and out 2-3 inches as he did so, in a way that felt like it should be visible to the naked eye on a stationary wheel.  Pretty scary that we've been driving like that.

Presumably this is a hang up from the crash in August, but I'm not trying to claim it.  I'm going to try and get a nice new Nissan steel from the local independent.

Couple of minor updates

Leaf now has a new wheel on.  It appears not to have fixed the issue entirely, though it is much better.  Going to get the wheels balanced all round the car to see if any others are as fucked.

Needed the garage yesterday, so started the 305 (it started on the button) and shuffled it to the lockup.  I forget how much it makes me smile, I really must make Scary find some time to get a test on it.

Meeting Mrs L1 halfway up Weardale for a house viewing, she "parked" in Stanhope and had a minor issue

Autoshite hero status is hereby awarded to @Jimbob McGregor for kindly lending me a 21mm and a torque wrench for 24 hours (and who was still at work in his garage at 7pm, with a fucked back and a sleepy daughter, dedication!) And also to @gm for coming to the rescue with some tyres in the right size.

Should be able to get one fitted, rescue the Leaf and return the tools after work tomorrow.  Amazingly I had a jack and axle stands in the car, but had taken out the socket set yesterday when taking the spare Leaf tyre to the tip because I'm clearly never going to use it.

Tyre fitted to the wheel today and I got my dad to drive it back home after collecting it and returning borrowed tools.

I forgot to add from earlier, the vibrations are now sorted, it was a bent wheel AND a seized handbrake cable. Another £130 to Nissan and a fair amount of labour.

Will use it for work tomorrow to make sure all is well.  Looks like our house move is going to make it redundant though, is anyone after a LEAF? 51k on the clock, a dint in the rear quarter I haven't had sorted out yet, full 12 bar battery etc.  PM me if interested ( @Kiltox?)

Listed the leaf on Facebook, including in one of the electric car sales groups.

Jesus Christ, they don't half look down their noses at cars which aren't as flash as their own.

If anyone fancies it, shiters' no haggle price is six and a half, and you can have the wall charger too.

How quickly would it pay for itself and the interest on a loan to buy it, just by being cheaper to run?

Car currently owned outright and costs 10p per mile in diesel. Currently aiming to replace it with something that runs on veg and gets better mpg so should be 5-7ppm.

My commute is 20 miles of very hilly B and A roads each way, so probably will be running low on range as I get home. None of the sites I work at have charging facilities. How much is a charge? 13.713p per kWh so working on 75% of battery used, that's essentially £2.50 for forty miles or about what a veg mobile costs. Would be saving 4ppm over my current car, so would need to do 200,000 miles to offset the loan and interest ?

:(

A bit less than mine then.  Work on 3.5miles/kWh, which is what I get driving like the arsehole I am.

I tend to get home with between 25 and 40% left.

10ppm is pretty good going I reckon.

£1.25/l and a featherlight touch on the throttle combined with a lot of coasting. Normal driving bumps that to 13ppm roughly.
