Vin
Oooh that Renner is very nice I once read somewhere that the 5 was originally supposed to have the rear lights higher up in the rear pillars (like the Punto Mk 1 had and that Volvo estate - 850 I think) but this idea was abandoned. So, my question is, is that black trim in the rear pillar unique to that particular spec of Renner 5 or did they all have it? And if they did all have it, could it be something to do with the original intention of the rear lights going there?
Spottedlaurel
Hey, that’s neat! Think I’d lose the spoiler though. My mum had a red T-plate GTL 3dr in the 80’s, so identical to that, and it was the first car I ever (sort of) drove when moving it into the garage.Didn’t the GTL have a bigger capacity engine and taller gearing, so you’d get better economy by driving it on its torque?Mum’s would jump out of 4th sometimes, so it got sold for £500 when about seven/eight years old. Although that kind of thing might have been a bit too different for the 70s!Although didn't the Honda N600 have lights like that? All Volvo estates since the 850 have had rear lights that seem to fill the rear pillars, infact seem to be the rear pillars! Also that Honda jeep thing that from the back looks so similar to a MkI V70 that the first few times I saw the back of them in the distance, I actually thought they were V70's on high axles / big wheels! Was it the first CRV? Also all Ford Focus hatches have those high up rear lights too, but they came very much late to the party!
Guest
Update brings...Vauxhall Victor feTriumph 1500TC which is for sale-couldnt get price from oap though And sex on wheels 1100cc one driver from new.Now does less tha 1000miles a year. The old guy got this as a company car and when the company went bust a few months later he bought it from the auction. MrRegieRitmo
I'd of given it a home! I place the Sunbeam & Alpine ahead of it in my favourite Rootes cars but considering that the Sunbeam & Alpine are also high on my list of all cars that suddenly doesn't sound so bad! It's just ahead of the Samba though! I take it you're not a fan of MkII Escorts?

Guest
Nice Victor Looks to be in the same place as the PC Cresta and MK4 Zodiac you boshed up recently, more small oval fodder This isnt the case at all-unless you dont tell him. A good proportion of his cars and vans have been bought to save them from that type of fate. Example being the horizon in the yard pic. That was going to be scrapped due to a broken rear window so he bought it. He loves the old vehicles and is still upset over a mk1 Transit he sold a few years ago to a mate. It was as new and his mate sold it to a film company who burnt it out for a short film
Guest
Trabbie-wonderfull shite 29.000 mile golf Bashed up and used as a van He got it from an oap when his van broke-used it as a van since.Dumped Clio-no number plates or taxBest thing you could do with the piles of crap they are Renault 4Remains of foreign plate under uk one. MrRegieRitmo
How did you find out about that Golf? Is he running it into the ground? If so that's very sad, obviously has no compassion, that car has lasted over 30yrs & was presumably in good condition until now! I think someone should rescue it from him or swap it for a MkIII Fiesta or something on the principal of it being a vintage vehicle deserving of some respect! Surely this would be right up the street of someone from Retro Rides? It's just like one I see around here which is a P reg, but same colour & has been lowered but looks tasteful. Sounds like it has a dump valve though.
Spottedlaurel
Anyone remember the early blue Golf 3dr I found? That sold at auction for £1200-odd, then it got sold with The Scene for £3300...That green one's probably not quite so good, but all the same I think he'd be better off selling it and buying a decent van with the proceeds. mk2_craig
I think the Golf and the Renner 4 are in the old Leicestershite thread somewhere, don't remember either of them looking quite so neglected though.
Guest
How did you find out about that Golf? The guy turned up while I was taking the pics. He told me a bit about it/mileage etc and when I said was it going to be restored he just said maybe . It is being used like an old van which is a shame due to the mileage/trim condition. Lovely, even if they do have slightly odd short-nose/long-tail proportions at odd with their RWD layout. Next to the Volvo too, coincidence or are they for sale?
