Pillock
Forgive my ignorance but what do you do with the cars? Is it just a case of "here's a car, fanny around with it for a bit" or are you told what you need to be doing? It's just they all look, well, knackered. Not in a general dilapidation kind of way but like someone's been around with a hammer, denting panels and smashing lights.
brammy777
Generally the cars are kept in good condition, its just the older ones havent fared too well. One of the reasons a few of them are dented is because there is alot of different classes who use the workshop, and the cars are moved round alot, either taken outside or just moved to a different space. Some of the students in other classes purposefully crash them, which is really stupid, but then again, so are they.Take the volvo for example, it hasnt got a dent on it, mainly because the college has had a crackdown on cars being damaged recently. The astra and escort have been here for ages, the astra has been here nearly 2 years. But every car the college has goes to the scrapyard after its been used here. bit of a waste. brammy777
oh and regarding what we do with them, well im taking a national diploma in vehicle technology, so anything that relates to the lessons weve been doing that week, is what we will looking at on the cars. We've done starter motors, driveshafts, brakes (disc and drum) alternators, stripping an engine, charging and starting and all that jazz
brammy777
A bit of an update for you here. Its not brilliant, but i hope you find at least one of them interesting.Favorite rally car ever. Favorite Subaru ever as well One stand at the autosport motor show appeared to have all the worst F1 cars ever raced, a novel feature and alot more interesting than the winning ones.Lotus Charlton at the auction area, there was also the fastest car in the world (An Ultimate Aero SSC) in all over matte black....I don't think I have ever seen one of these on the road, probably all garaged up somewhere, I can imagine these being worth about a million pounds on ebay to all their owners. Don't hold me to this but I'd say it has something wrong with the suspension....What on earth happened to all the Scania 113's in the UK?!? And what is that car with the odd coloured door?!?One for Hirst mini cabs Just to prove all our college cars arent smashed up, heres that ZX, I really like the colour of this one.The first orion I have seen for agggggggggggggges. SHAMEFUL picture quality, i nearly got run over.Nice to see another unmolested example of these GSI's, such a clean one, probably the cleanest mk 3 astra I have seen.I saw this whilst my train was pulling into the station, I had to get a pic, I had no idea what it was.....A Daihatsu Applause. Well! I have never seen one of them before, not even heard of it before. Now i leave you with some funny pictures. This was in the car park for over a week with a clamp on, and it wasnt stolen as it has turned up again in the car park, i worked out the costs the owner had to pay must have been at least £900.I honestly am speechless. Well there you go, not that brilliant haha. But I have got some more spots lined up for the coming week.r.welfare have you ever seen that place in hook with all the fairground lorries? Theres a Scammel Highwayman behind all of them! Have you heard of Newnham coaches as well?[/img]
andrew e
I followed on home through the back roads being driven very gingerly last thursday morning, mint L reg (Tourmallard maybe) that was LHD?
Simon M
Allegro, looks really nice!Is this in Basingstoke? Whereabouts? The last time I saw an actual Allegro in the flesh was when I was at QMC about ten years ago - a MK 3 driven by one of the staff, I think!
brammy777
The allegro is in Frimley Green. Which is near Camberly. The oldest car in BCOT car park currently is an A reg Metallic Orange Metro, which I so desperately need to get on film.
Simon M
Not been there for a long time - might have to make the trip!Have you heard of Newnham coaches as well?Oh yes, the infamous 'Boney Buses'! My first post on here was an aghast reaction to seeing a photo of a Newnham Coach (quite possibly one I'd actually travelled on at some point) with half of its front missing in a Scottish scrapyard....can't find the picture now, but it was a shock I can tell you! brammy777
I've seen that picture! That VR was still in service when i was in year 7 and 8 along with loads of GM standard Atlanteans, they now use Metrobuses, Leyland Olympians ( The actual leyland ones) and some Titans. brammy777
Heres another picture of the now dead VRs used by Newnham Coaches. The buses Stagecoach put on round here arent much better than the old double deckers doing the school rounds, we always get either 15 year old Alexander Dennis Darts which are horribly slow, or 15 year old Alexander bodied Volvo B10s. They have been reseated lately and the new seats are bloody horrible. Why replace coach seats with bus seats
Simon M
Yes, I remember those ones - T-reg was relatively new for a Boney Bus when I was at school, though, they were still using M and N-reg ones then. I still want to know the whereabouts of the one with the NOB numberplate, which was a source of much innocent amusement all those years ago...... brammy777
i sort of have a recollection of a bus with NOB plate, was it double decker or single? The atlanteans were by far the best buses they ever had, I remember they had one Dennis Dominator as well, all long dead though i think. I dont think any bus from newnham coaches would be in particularly good nick after service to robert mays...
r.welfare
r.welfare have you ever seen that place in hook with all the fairground lorries? Theres a Scammel Highwayman behind all of them! Have you heard of Newnham coaches as well?Yes - on the A30 behind that "cafe" that looks like a portacabin that's going to fall down at one end. Never noticed the Scammel, but I've only seen the other trucks from the road going past at speed, if you see what I mean.I regularly end up playing chicken with one of those Newnham Coaches double-deckers doing the school run in Hook on my drive into work... Photo actually taken in a Scottish museum... it was obviously a donor vehicle for another one under restoration and had evidently yielded more spare parts than the Edinburgh royal Infirmary deep freeze. brammy777
i would love to get a picture of some of the circus lorries as theyre all pretty rare fodens and erfs, but i get the feeling that trespassing down there is not a good idea.
Simon M
I dont think any bus from newnham coaches would be in particularly good nick after service to robert mays...The roads round Robert May's are so narrow I'm amazed they never tipped over - I'm sure a few of my former classmates would have tried, though! The NOB bus was a double decker, as I recall - thanks to xr1984 for digging out the original thread too, I tried to find it myself but couldn't!I think I pass by that place with the fairground vehicles quite a bit (just down the road from the posh car showroom, isn't it?), I'll see what I can spot.Aside from that, the only proper shite I've seen round here is a white Renault 5 Supercinq which is gradually returning to earth - I do live very near to a scrapyard which was an endless source of fascination in the early 90s, though! It's been closed for years, but I can still see the back end of a Capri peeking over the top of the fence.
brammy777
simon do you live in hook? because everytime i get the bus i see a white renault 5 near the railway bridge getting more and more dilapidated as i pass it.
Simon M
Nearby, certainly - we may well be talking about the same Renault 5! I can't remember exactly where it is as I usually only pass it when I'm on the early shift at work. I always notice it as I've always been quite fond of Renault 5s, old and new, and that's the only one I've seen in real life for years!
brammy777
it could be the same one then.. well i will try to get a picture of it one day soon, i would go round hook on a sunday taking pictures but no buses run there on sundays i have a few months off soon, ill try picture it then, it hasnt moved for god knows how long, best not get moved beforehand

They tear up the buses by simply attacking them with a mechanical grab and they hook it onto the front to move it about the yard, which is why most of the buses there have half their fronts ripped off. Horrible place.

brammy777
update:)Basically most of these were taken today in my college break, i walked so far and nearly died in the humidity.anyway the first couple are just from my village mostly.Nice festering nissan for you here, taken in andover.Right this Sierra is like the modern day cortina out of keeping up appearances, seriously, right down to the couple who drive it. Its almost scarily uncanny The man who drives this is seriously old, this car is probably a case of retirement present to himself, in 1988.i would have got the front, but a scooter was obstructing it OHHHH lada niva, and probably one of the last ones sold here! shameful quality, taken at 10pm though.flash does this. Notice my mum and brother in background.o hey there gorgeous o hey there gorgeous, again.mmmm, shitey.sam guy also owns a 928 and a DB7. someone likes their diamond in the rough supercarsunlicensed according to dvla, not that youd think it was any different.is £750 a fair price? despite obvious rust problemone of the best car shapes, ever.honest, despite newer plate, probably next on the scene list. The hamper just completes the picture.i prefer old saabs to volvos, im sorry i like this, i like how it looks like a BL postcardbut i hate this. brammy777
The Scorpio once again turned up in the village yesterday, and i kid you not, the driver took at least 10 minutes getting out. Hopefully this car will fall into good hands when he passes. Just noticed, the red Escort conv isnt recognised by the dvla?hilarious how its also for sale.Oh also, theres an upcoming event round here called the FIRE SHOW, i was wondering if any of you would be interested in seeing a shitload of old fire engines? Mainly 70s/80s ones. The odd car turns up too.Previous years have yealded many a Dodge, MK 1 transits, Carmichael Commando to name but a few...Oh i need to also get on here a pic of a P100 which has been doing the rounds here for agggges. Pete-M
I had a frogeye 24v Scorpio and loved it. As for 'diamond in the rough'.. this looks like a 924 Turbo.. rather good fun.
brammy777
As i said, the guy who owns the 924 also has the 928 behind and a DB7. Funny thing about the DB7 is that its either on the front lawn or a shabby garage track, but never in the garage. Ill get snaps of it next time im around that area.EDITThe Vauxhall Astra GSI Turbo i spotted earlier on is apparently only a 1.8. I thought the GSI was 2 litre only. brammy777
only a few new ones, but none the less, i hope you find them interestingBXs are too rare for my liking now.Spotted in andover, at one of the small car garages, the Mercedes convertible was also there. That Old Basing Cherry, at last, would have got a side picture but sadly, there was people at the window. Does it say Maxima on the back?ooooo, as soon as i saw this, i had to get a snap!
