Brams Spots, september so far spots.

My spots haven't been very good, it's really quite annoying living in a rich part of the country, as new cars are abundant, and old rare. Seriously in the village i live in, it is rare to see a car older than a S plate. Really annoys me! but anyway, here are my spots.

Posted Image

French 309, looked good from the outside, but the interior was terrible, the seats were all ripped. Tartan as well.

Posted Image

Probably the only common old car of interest around here are 405s, along with cavaliers and the odd sierra, this one looked nice, obviously a bad photo though.

Posted Image

First of a few norway spots, this was on the russian border, and was simply massive. I would have loved to go into Russia as well, but without a visa its a bit of a problem....

Posted Image

An Audi 100, this is one of the few Audi's I actually like, this one looked really looked after and everything, saw it driving around alot as well.

Posted Image

No idea what this is, anyone on here got an idea? Judging by the side trim, along with the overall shape, I'd say its a rehash of something old.

Posted Image

Chevrolet Blazer. Alot of genuine 'American' Chevrolet's in Norway, saw loads of these, took a picture of this one as it was really quite tatty.

Posted Image

Mazda 626. In Norway one thing I learnt was that they appreciate their old cars alot more than say in England, generally in good condition as well. This was a nice spot, not the only one I saw either.

Posted Image

Eurgh. I cant stand these Viewts. This was spotted in Dunstable, where my ex lived. As you would expect, alot of Vauxhalls in that area.

Posted Image

I love Capri's, always have and always will. This one looked to be in unrestored everyday condition, seen in Morrisons car park. It's always parked there so i assume a member of staff owns it. I'll never forget my Dad telling me about when his Capri decided to shed a wheel round a roundabout.

Posted Image

Another car I've always liked is the old SL's. This one didn't look too healthy. Has anyone ever noticed the size of backboxes on these? Massive.

Posted Image

This most definitely has to be owned by an elderly person, as it looked so original (aside from the towbar). I took this picture whilst i was with a mate, seriously people get a bit freaked out when your 18 and taking pictures of old Triumphs in ASDA carpark, but ah well, their loss.

Posted Image

Maestro Van. Hadn't seen one of these for ages before this one, and this one looked really good. My Aunt had loads of Maestros, I think around 5? Not at the same time, just one after the other.

Posted Image

A ZX Volcane. ZX's have become quite the rare thing round here, I only ever see about one a week, which is the same white one in my village. Is it perhaps because they appear to be worth nothing now?

Posted Image

I know that Sierra's aren't particularly rare, but it makes a nice change to see a clean unmodified Sapphire. My parents had a Sierra, it was in that lovely early 90s Ford sky blue, shame it couldn't get up slightly snowy hills.

Posted Image

Allegro, looks really nice! One of the memories (at least car related) from when I lived in Bexleyheath was a Dark blue allegro I would always see down my road. Along with an Invacar. I took this when i always used to go to Frimley, I really should have taken a picture of a Marina near there, which looked a bit dead.

Well thats it so far, I have other pictures of interest, but their not good quality, as i don't have a scanner, so I had to resort to taking pictures of photos, but I'll upload them soon, as this already took long enough to do haha. [/img]

This... erm... beauty is a Hyundai Galloper, a facelifted Korean version of the first generation Mitsubishi Pajero. Here's another one in its natural habitat :

Those Viewt things are Micra based. Not only that but they have jaguar mk2 type fronts. A pointless exercise.

What is unusual is that your spot is a cabriolet version.

Asda is actually the best place to find expired Dolomites - I reckon the owners keep on randomly turning up thinking the owners club have meets there.

My old boss, who lives in Old Basing funnily enough, has a totally mint 1850HL Dolly in that colour. I think it's a '73 on an L. Don't think you'd ever see it parked at a supermarket though, he'd blow a gasket if someone dented the doors!

Upon closer inspection of the Audi 100, the rear badge does say 100, but the 200 was the more upmarket version. That Viewt was owned by someone who also had a Toyota Sera, obviously a lover of obscure Japanese tin.

That has to be ex Telecom fo' sho', nobody in their right mind would repaint an old van that colour.

Having said that, most grey ex BT stock you see surviving these days are on Midlands reg plates and TTLLY SHGGD.

Indeed & I thought the full width reflector across the rear was the other way to tell the difference apart from the badge! Same with the early 80s Audi 80 / 90 B2

okay time for the 'scans' i say scans but really these are photos of photos, this is mainly my parents old cars.

My mums old toyota estate, apparently this was alive until 1996, I'm thinking this is a really rare car now? Anglia has been dead for years.

Posted Image

One of 2 escorts my mum owned, this one was the one my dad bought my mum.

Mums 2nd white MK3 escort estate.

My mum had a lada! No idea what this plate was, but i presume its long gone. Apparently when it was traded in for the escort, the dealer wasnt amused.

Posted Image

This was the last car my dad ever bought, before he died. Really good car, when we sold it in 2003, the mileage was like 22K. My mum spotted it a week ago very close to where we live, I'm so glad its still alive.

Posted Image

Not one of my parents cars, but my uncle and aunts old one. This was taken in 1994. Loving the amount of autoshite in this snap, the orion visible behind was my other uncles.

Also, i forgot to mention im currently at college, and there is alot of cars at my college which might be of interest. Somehow my college has 20 odd cars at their disposal, alot are ruined but interesting. Should I get pictures of them? Anyone up for seeing ruined vectras and astras?

well when i say ruined vectras and astras, I mean one ruined vectra which is missing everything from the front bar the headlights and the interior ruined, but then again, still not much seperating that from those littering council estates. However the college has some intresting cars as follows:MK2 astra, with steel pressed plates.Volvo 340, which was probably worth something before my college got it.a LocustA nova which is currently being worked on to house a cavalier engine.A mini whose driver door is held on with faith only.A really nice ZXAnd probably more soon as my college got some money from the government, which theyre going to spend on more carsTheres more cars but I just cant remember any at the moment, there used to be a Panda, I never noticed how the carpet went all the way up the dash? And a SAC plated rover 100, long gone now though, the tracking was so out it didnt even register on the laser when it was tested. Was another Rover there, a 214GTi which was really rusty, also long gone.

Brilliant spots! Is it me or does the picture of your parents' first Escort show it as having a Vynl roof?I can sympathise with you on living in a town with a very low autoshite count :( I'd very much like to see photos of the other cars you mention, especially the Volvo 340!

I remember when i was a Colchester institute around 1996-98 we had a few old cars knocking around, a coupe of brand new unregistered early Mk5 Escorts which had more paint on them then anything I'd ever seen, A Metro and an Brown Austin Allergo in the car park that someone blew up the engine on one day whist i was there by revving the engine so much.We had a few others but can't remember for the life of me what they was now.

Okay well ill get a picture of the 340, shame my college got it seeing as the mileage is below 45k, and any other cars that might be of interest. I go to BCOT (Basingstoke College of Technology) and study automotive technology, quite a hard course at times! Also yes i think the first Escort did have a vinyl roof! When it was part exchanged for the 2nd Escort, My mum loads of paper in the rear footwell to cover the leak, and parked it an angle so the dealer couldnt see the rust down one side. No wonder it didn't last much longer.

Right starting off the college cars( bare in mind this is only one workshop of 3) there is this Nova. This is the one having a cavalier engine replacement, but i doubt itll ever get that far, the group doing it haven't done anything major for ages.

Posted Image

The front end. The dash was also taken out, dont know why? According to the old documents the car used to have, it once upon a time lived down the same street as me.

Posted Image

Astra mk 2. This thing would start if it didnt have a flat battery, the indicators move at ridiculous speed because one side doesnt work. I thought this had steel pressed plates, obviously not  . Mileage reads 74,000. For some reason the steering rack makes a large pinging noise like a huge spring being depressed then let off when the wheels are at full lock.

Posted Image

Escort, which was once red, now many different shades of red! Boot dented, also doesnt shut, severe rust going up the rear right arch too, i knocked it once with a hammer, and a large of chunk of rust just fell off, it hadnt even bubbled onto the surface yet!

Posted Image

Escort interior. Notice the speedo stuck on 30mph. I must say, the seats in this are really comfy.

Posted Image

The rust is visible in this picture. Two knocks of the hammer and thats what happened. No idea whats happening with this car, it doesnt warrant any reason for its existence. Oh and obviously it doesnt start.

Posted Image

Vectra, absolutely ruined. The steering is ridiculously heavy, the interior has been ripped to shreds, the brakes dont work, it hasnt been started in god knows how long as well.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Locust. Mark 2 escort engine, this thing runs, but currently needs a fuel pump. It is also one of the project cars, My project car hasnt been put up because its a bit too modern, its a rear engined Fiesta project, sound intresting?

Posted Image

Volvo 340  When this first arrived it started, and sounded like a tractor. I remember one day starting it with the choke, i managed to fume out the workshop with petrol fumes. haha.

Posted Image

When the 340 had a working battery everything in the interior worked, i remember i managed to deaden the battery just because i was calling people over to me sitting in it and then putting the window up. Whoops.

Mileage reads 55,000.

Posted Image

This car was registered 6 days after i was born so i kind of have formed a bond with it, sort of odd i know but still  Interesting thing about this car is that it received a new exhaust recently as the old one was broken. First car in my college to ever receive a new part i reckon.

What a great big pile of scrap. Top stuff! 15 years from now you'll wish that the Nova and 3-door Escort were still safely undercover ready for sale to rally/retro/resto types for big coin.

the nova was in pretty good shape before it became a project car, the only rust was in the battery tray, everything else was there. Well maybe if it works as a project it might carry on living but i doubt it. The escort will probably be scrapped soon.

How depressing!, I was 10 when H reg cars came out! :( Doesn't seem like 5 minutes ago since i left college,

We had Mk5 Escorts like that there then but they wasn't quite as dented as that and they all still had delivery mileage still.

My uncle only scrapped his H reg 1.4 340 like that coupe of years ago, He done 80k in it within 5 years, Still had MOT as well, But it used more water then petrol, Dad flatten it with a digger after it sat up the farm for ages.

Somehow our college managed to get 56 plate avensis' for cheap because oil companies used them, and tested their oil on them. Apparently the mileage on them is really low. People just donate cars to the college, i think we have around 25 now, which is way way too many. And they scrapped the old panda they had for like 2 weeks :(

Thanks for the pic of the 340 :) Ah the days when a catalyst on a car was really something to shout about!

^^ Have you noticed the quite simply fucking stupid design of the auxiliary drive belt on these engines?

i.e. you have to unbolt the engine mount and jack it up to slip the belt off.

Ah no problem with posting the 340 pics :D Regarding the vectra engine, yeh i have noticed this, another engine which had this was the 1.6 found in the fiesta mk 3, a little while ago we were going to take the belts off that too, and had to do exactly the same. Its really stupid and turns what should be little work into a lot of work. Also, in real life would cost the customer a lot more in labour costs.Intrestingly, there was another vectra in the college a short while ago, one of my teachers cars, and it destroyed itself. Apparently a bolt worked itself loose and decided to make friends with the timing chain. My teacher was not pleased.
