beko1987
Tbh if you get a nice easy cheque from somewhere for thay damage, I would just use that cash to keep it running. Road tax, tyres, consumables, maybe even insurance and fuel! Put the cash in a new current account/on a pre pay mastercard and see how long you can go before it's gone. Report on here, your winter of properly utterly free motoring! A challenge, if you will (or if they pay...) eddyramrod
richardmorris
Glad you're ok. Someone tried reversing into my X1/9 in Waitrose car park. Blowing the horn didn't do any good so I jumped out and banged on their back window. Claimed they didn't see me, I admit it's low, but it's not bloody invisible. I don't like blind spots on lhd lorries, but if you're queueing in traffic there's nowhere to go is there.

HMC
That's a shame, a combination of a LHD hgv and a car with low build and a small footprint. Must have been a brown trouser moment to say the least! Hope you get it all sorted without too much aggro.

DodgeRover
Took this out for the first time annddddd.... Crashed it. Well, someone crashed into me. On the motorway two lorries collided in the middle lane about a mile ahead so the traffic slowed, I was crawling along at about 25 mph in the fast lane, with traffic needing to merge to avoid the accident. A big arctic just didn’t see me and merged fromthe middle lane right into my side. It was left hand drive so I must have been in a blind spot. The driver didn’t speak English but was massively helpful. I checked with a policeman that arrived on the scene and apparently I’ve got all the details that I need. It was a polish registered truck. So.... I suppose I stick a claim in. I’m worried that it’ll get written off and I’ll have to go through the whole cat C thing to get it back on the road..Find friendly Polish speaker, ring company that own truck, get cash settlement carry on driving. billyboy406v6, Exiled_Tat_Gatherer and cobblers
brownnova
I got reversed into by a Range Rover in my MX5... thankfully it was so high and I so low that the back of his rode up the front of mine leaving no more than a tiny scrape... blinking idiot had a reversing camera and all! Glad you're ok and well done on an excellent purchase. Love my MX5 to bits... which it's slowly faling into! richardmorris

BorniteIdentity
If you need a polish speaker, just drop me a line. Personally, I think I'd just go through the motions with the insurance and do it properly. It's what you pay hand over fist for each month. Wack
what's going to be a PITA is 5 years of have you had an accident even if it wasn't your fault , if they ask to see pictures take it so you can't see the bit of a ship welded onto the sill so you can pass it off as a cherished mint example Cat C doesn't matter on a car this old, a snapped aerial would write it off in the eyes of the insurance , I'm really surprised this is still happening with alarming regularity though , it seems so simple to solve given modern cars can reverse themselves into parking spaces, why can't a foreign truck be fitted with something to alert the driver that even though he's on the vinegar strokes the porn on the laptop is too distracting. Coming out of Dover the motorway used to be like a skittle alley with cars spun up the bank , but when you see the dashcam footage of the crash people sit in the blind spot for ages rather than just driving past, even in traffic jams I clock the plate and hang back Reject their first offer , it's always low and treat it as free money when you get the cheque, free money means free upgrades https://www.mx5parts.co.uk/mk1-1989-1998-c-376.html Vince70 and purplebargeken

purplebargeken
Glad you are okay mate. M25? Virtually every accident on the M25 seem to involve a LHD lorry. Ask our eddiehonda how well that works out. Bring her round and we can straighten it out a bit I have hammers and bits of wood. Our Mr StillOrange may be able to help with the lingo too. Eddie Honda
Ask our eddiehonda how well that works out.Fucking pish. That's how well. Other party's insurers were insisting 50/50. Can't be arsed because of the shit small claims court, it'd cost me a chunk to file a claim and being in the small claims track means no costs awarded either way. So yeah, I'm left to suck it up all because of dickwad halfwit.
Wack
That's why all my cars have dashcams in, too many twats about who are never at fault and a I don't want to get involved attitude for witnesses
sierraman
What’s the car worth? If it’s less than a grand, I wouldn’t claim, by the time you’ve deducted your excess off and the expense of considerably increased premiums for the next 5 years I’d avoid it. Fabergé Greggs
Isn’t the claim on his insurers though, not mine? But yes, I guess I’d still have to declare it every time I get a quote. I’m on a classic policy with Peter James, I wonder if it would affect my premium. Maybe I could ask them about it?
SiC
You still have to declare that you claimed off an insurance policy, even if its not yours.

Fabergé Greggs
Any news Jack? Can’t seem to get hold of the driver. Mally
Have you notified Peter James or anyone else that you have had an accident? Were the police involved? If no I'd tend to forget it given the price of the car.Only problem could be if the other driver decides it was your fault and tries to claim for a new wheel nut....or whiplash
Fabergé Greggs
Haven’t notified Peter James. The police were there but couldn’t have cared less- they were trying to sweep up some debris from the other crash to get the motorway re-opened
sierraman
I’d avoid any calls with the insurance till you are sure what you want to do. Once you’ve deducted the excess off and calculated 5 years worth of increased premiums I’d very much doubt it’s worth claiming. Once you’ve told the insurer you’ve had a bang though there’s no way back. billyboy406v6
