HMC- Incoming- Old Skool Ford (contains mk2 escort)

Had a great mini road trip with another shiter today- I’ll let him tell as it’s his story.

But I can reveal the ever so steady and dependable avensis clicked over a photo-worthy mileage total, and I was surprised how deserted the Devon country lanes were on my return leg. Yes basically I had what can only be described as “fun” driving a leggy avensis.

The avensis is back up for sale at £300 see earlier post for full details, as  also is the rover 800 at £200- the rover has about 5 weeks mot  I’ll put a few more pics and details of the rover ASAP - basically genuine 69k from new and long term giffer owners.

The Rover 800 is an 820si 4 door auto. 69k from new. It’s Within the last 1000 made. Dark green metallic, grey cloth. Starts drives runs great, slight exhaust blow and thr alternator has grumbly bearings. The coolant header tank - as is typical has been repaired and I have a replacement Volvo item to replace it- it doesn’t leak or loose coolant or anything but it’s a sensible upgrade. I’ve been using it daily and it’s on the button and very wafty.

The interior is excellent with minimal dash lift and no stains/rips. Headlining good. Original rover radio cassette working , cd changer untested.

Body very good. No rust I can see above or below. Some scratches and scuffs and a little scrape on the near side rear door. The paint quality is generally excellent except the lacquer on the roof looks a bit scratched/crazed- a light wet and dry may improve it.

Contis all round, 2 keys and fobs- one wants a new battery- decent service history (genuine 69k) and books. Mot to June 16th from memory.

Located Tavistock and id like £200

Keeping the 800 but the avensis is still for sale.

Thank Christ for that, in a weakened state I was almost looking at train timetables there.... 800 is the missing link in my current fleet, but do I really need it ? Yeahbutnobutyeahbut....

Ha ha, it was one of those moments where the putting the for sale ad together makes you realise you want to keep the car! I’m just a bit worried about my kids and the niceness of the interior.

Avensis 1.8 VVTI estate. Starts runs and drives well, new Bosch battery, a mountain of bills and history, body very good, the odd scuff and a previous welded repair to the rear sill each side, done tidily. Third gear can “snick” if you ram it in quickly when cold, and the stereo occasionally needs a thump on the head unit to get sound. Occasional clutch judder when setting off, no slipping and it bites cleanly.  Comes with retractable load cover and net. Has roof rails. On the button and obviously totally dependable. with mot to end march 2020  located Tavistock and I’d like £250

That looks like excellent value. I've been tempted to get an estate for a while, as the better half keeps telling me to get a bike rack - it's far easier to sling them in the back of an estate. Problem is, she has a veto on the cars I can bring home, and she says we can't have an estate as she has an irrational hatred of them.

Agreed re cracking value. I've been in this and it really doesn't feel its miles - it's a nice car.

Irrational hatred of estates? Maybe she needs to drive one... They're usually easier to park as it's easier to work out where they end behind you... But then you probably know that already. :)

As for bikes, apart from a van (or a London taxi) the easiest way to carry them is a towbar mounted bike rack. I have an estate (and a van) but wish I had a small car with a towbar.

An absolutely pointless question (but I'll ask anyway because I'm curious), but on the other thread in the for sale section, there's a photo of the radio which looks like it does some trip computery stuff - as well as buttons that say things like Route and Navi - is there some ancient sat nav functionality in there?

I know I've mentioned this before but why are all these good motors available now?!? Come October I need something for winter and over the last few months there's been 2 HMC estates and smellypoos Mégane. Wish I had somewhere to store a car! More insane value pal, make sure your selling summat come autumn...

No it’s not for sale it’s a keeper, only just bought it, so try next week. It is almost doily levels of frilly.

Good job really as I'm semi permanently skint so shouldn't even think about it but we've got a couple of these at work that have served there time and are now being stripped for parts for the others when necessary, so I could "acquire" parts quite easily.
