Guest
This loks a little crispy and is not cheap at £950, but woould offer some TYTE retro RWD drift shoppig action. http://www.leboncoin.fr/vi/41930886.htm?ca=12_sI'm just left wondering if the red thing parked next to it has a tumble drier fitted under the bonnet. The alloys on this are deelish! Spottedlaurel
This looks a good one for the price. Auto may not suit some, but they have overdrive I think so shouldn't be much difference when cruising anyway. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/90-NISAN-BLUEBIRD ... 0348814963 Hey! The chap with the comedy quote has got something appealing again... "The car you see here and might buy tomorrow is the car that somebody saw yesterday and might buy today" http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/J-1992-TOYOTA-CAM ... 0347699811 Got a towbar, sensible mileage, it's manual and a year's MoT for £395BIN. Pretty good value I reckon, it'd be a tough choice between that or the Bluebird above if I needed a daily. These Accord coupes are appealing. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Honda-Accord-Coup ... 0308782636 Going on a slightly different tack now, have we had this yet? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MK2-Escort-Van-Ba ... 0175575562
Ratdat
To be honest having driven a couple of auto bluebirds, I'd give them a miss. The 2.0 might be okay but the gearing is too tall for the 1.8. At motorway speeds if you show it the slightest incline it can't cope in overdrive with the torque converter locked. As the lockup is only speed sensitive not load sensitive it can't unlock the converter which would reduce the gering by enough to cope so it drops out of overdrive which automatically unlocks the conveter. It's like shifting down too gears and all of a sudden it's screaming so the box shifts into OD and then of course the torque converter locks and the whole cycle begins again. It's really quite annoying. They're bleedin' slow too in 1.8 form!
Spottedlaurel
That’s a shame, a lot of the nice ones cropping up now are auto’s – presumably they had more Sid n’ Doris appeal and are the ones that’ve been better looked after. Still, it surely can’t be as slow or peculiar a driving experience as that 910 auto I borrowed off you? That was certainly an unhappy combination of engine and ‘box... That was certainly an unhappy combination of engine and ‘box...Probably not quite as slow as that but most likely an even less happy combination. i suspect it's the same autobox fitted to things like the U11 Bluebird/Maxima overseas which having a 3.0 V6 is probably more suited to the gearing. My WD21 uses a similar style of overdrive autobox but thankfully it has a 'hold' function as without that it would shift endlessly up and down the box like the T72 does, although the truck only does it when towing. I suspect the cure for the T72 auto would simply be to put a manual switch in with which you can overide the converter lockup when neccesary.
