I would. It's the cheapest 2 dr Escort I've seen in some time, and other than the welding it looks pretty straight. The mileage is irrelevant as all the running gear would be ripped out anyway :-)

Arches will get chopped out to fit "forest" ones or whatever they're called too. :roll:

That's GOTTA be worth 350 quid of any body's money! Built-in sat nav though? I'd like to see that, and they don't usually have catalytic converters.

I bet that sat nav is useless. My Vel Satis has built in sat nav and even that's not much use. :lol:

My assumption when I read the listing was that this is going to be some kind of home-made housing attached to the dash - a near guarantee of extra shite-points! (hopefully not at the expense of screw holes in that funky dash though - would be a shame).

That's a Nissan Stagea. They're essentially a rebodied Skyline, that one is good as it has a 2.5 turbo, might be 4WD too.

Think it might be as sub text says "Stagea 2.5 RS Four Turbo"Oh that really pushes my buttons. Not too far away either. Now how do I convince the wife that we should upgrade her A-Class?

Engine parts could be pilfered off a Skyline GTS25 I suppose, but at what cost I wouldn't know. Unique bits I suppose you could just get them off Yahoo Auctions Japan or whatever.

I've missed the thread run, but one of those Stageas passed me on the M25 last week, and it was enormously wide (like W140 S-Class wide). I thought this was odd, given Jap road tax laws are aligned with vehicle width in some way, are they not?

Vehicle dimensions are part of the tax system along with engine sizes, if it exceeds any of them it goes into the next band. You'll find that largely, the widths of competing Japanese family saloons of any time (Galant, 626, etc.) is exactly the same to the mm as they wanted to use the maximum space available without going into the next tax bracket. They don't always take advantage of the full length though. It's all engineered towards fitting into the tax system basically, making the biggest sized/engined car within its constraints, that's why they love turbocharging stuff so much.That explains why the Stagea has big engines available too, usually it isn't feasible to go above 2.0L because it works out badly for tax, hence why you end up with weird 2.0L V6s in family saloon cars. Since the Stagea was going to be an expensive vehicle, tax wasn't going to be a concern so they just made it really big and put daft engines in it rather than compromise it into the same tax bracket as a Bluebird or whatever.

Ah I see. Thanks, Hirst. I'd say it was a hell of a lot wider than a Galant or Legacy though, which I see as it's competition at the time...maybe it competed in a higher class.IIRC the reason the Rover 800 was so narrow for the class was because of the tax laws for the Legend - and we've all heard the story about Mk3 Cortinas being compressed at the rear door shuts for the Japanese market.

Love the van 8) ,although it's a shame they never made the Rover Metro as a van,then you could have a GTI MPI version,or even one with a VVC lump :D
