I dont think I'd fit in it!

To be honest they're not too bad if your john wayne is big leggy. I'm 6'2", sagging seats help increase the headroom and theres enough space for my clown feet. Also, the owner has kindly replaced the original steering wheel for something that won't cut off your circulation in your legs everytime you brake or use the clutch.
Cheers for info.. I am 6'3-4, and quite broad and leggy. So I may fit, but to be honest I dont want to have a second car, that would be a treat, that I couldnt fit in properly! I wont write one off in the future though. I'm thinking about a Jazz/City at the moment, but not that pink cab! That Mk2 Granada 2.0 is lovely looking btw.

That escort's been stood since 1990. Am I missing something? Why is this at £600 with still time for more bids?

Ha that reminds me of the times I checked the DVLA database for something i spotted the other day, and It came back as being off the road since 1998..... Id typed one number wrong. Explain to me, can a 4 door MKII be used for rallying? Im sure theyre not ideal.

I'm really wanting a MK4, just before they become (eventually) out of my price range.

A Mk 4 Escort is a good choice, I know most are rusty now but there are still some nice ones out there for little money and they are easy to work on.,

I bought a Escort 1.3 Eclipse back in 1998, It cost me £2000 at the time but i loved it, It was the run out model with the electric windows, Boot spoiler, Central locking and rev counter, I body coloured the bumpers and fitted some alloys, It was a right fanny magnet, I even lost my V plates in it!

Heres some MK3s for low money at the moment:

Terrible colour on this one and theres slight confusion to what parts it may need, but im sure the non hardtop XR3i varients will be worth something more one day. Its like the whole 2 door and 4 door values on the older ones.

MOTed and taxed, looks alright cosmetically as well, Im watching this to see how much it ends up going for.

Yeh, they are basic cars component wise, which is always a plus! There is still alot of them round here, so that helps should they ever be up for sale. I havent seen any with rust though, although saying that the one our college bought has some pretty big holes behind the front lights!I dont know what attracts me to them, possibly because its the car I always remember seeing when I was really young.

They are a good car and you could do a lot worse, I have a soft spot for them still, and the Orion. The 1.3 OHV isn't that bad neither speed wise although the 1.4 CVH is better with a nicer exhaust note. When i past my test in 1996 every one had one, most of them where 1.3's with XR3i bumpers and dog leg alloys added to them.

No matter how many times you knock at the owners house "Not for sale - its getting fixed"Never does tho, :) !

Maybe its slightly more polite than "F off pikeys!" and less likely to get his windows put in.I always find it a bit unnerving when you find your shite has got a service station printed card under the wiper, or a note through the letterbox offering to remove it, as the shite is tucked out of sight behind the house so you know they have been snooping about.Even if your enquiries are honest and genuine, the house owner isn't going to know that.

Have you checked out some of the other Alfa's this bloke has ?.I was rather taken with this, although a pretty Major Project.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1985-ALFA-ROMEO-A ... 439c8a0a88

They're less than ideal, but they have been used for rallying. IIRC Callum Duffy's first Tour of Mull was undertaken in a 1600 crossflow powered 4-door Escort, and he finished in 10th place.
