British Motor Museum BL day

I thought I'd pop along and check out the sea of Beige Allegros and Marinas.

There weren't many.

However - this place is frickin awesome! I didn't expect to be able to see and dribble over so many obscure, one-off or just plain strange motor cars, with no barriers, just discrete "look but don't touch" notices.

The BL show was also pretty interesting, it seemed to be a bit unbalanced in as much as there were dozens of TR7s, Landcrabs and 1100s, but that's not a complaint - it's just what showed up.

I'll post some of the pictures and the album link - I'm regretting not taking my SLR now, relying on my phone camera (which was a bitch as I couldn't see the screen in the sunshine - did I mention the weather was great?), so I'll be back to check out the exhibits again. If you pay as a Gift Aid donation you get an annual pass rather than a day ticket for the same price :)

Yep, there's some fantastic stuff at Gaydon, especially now they've got the new building. I've been there several times and there's always something new to see.

Agree with you that the show was a bit unbalanced - the Ital, Acclaim and Ambassador were conspicuous by their absence and there was only one P6. More TR7s than I ever thought possible, including the biggest gathering of TR8s since 1982, and 11 Austin 3-litres, much to my amazement. I think most of the Marinas were at a club rally in Suffolk. Looks like you just caught us leaving the Maxi club stand - we decided to call it a day early as neither myself or my dad were feeling 100%.

OMGOMG actual XJ220! I had wet dreams about these as an 11 year old, and I still think it's the best looking supercar ever.

One other thing - they say you should never meet your heroes. The XJ220 has plastic wheel trims.

Mind you they cover split rim Compomotives or similar so it's not all bad  :mrgreen:

  • 2 weeks later...

Not Last 800;

35504560102_9d0bcf919e_k.jpg

First 800 off the line. An 825i which was a mid-range spec with the then biggest available engine, the 2.5 (2494cc) Honda-built V6, later to become the 2.7 (2675cc).

The last 800 I recall seeing, a late mk2 in Bolero Red, same as my KV6 Sterling. Can't remember where I saw whether it was at Gaydon or at the MG-Rover museum in Longbridge.
