AMC Rebel
No point in doing a mystery collection thread as I have mentioned it elsewhere already. Collectioning tomorrow (probably). 2003 XJ X350 with LPG conversion. It's done 260K miles but has had a lot of stuff replaced - WCPGW? Bren
Due to te lightness of the bodyshell even the v6 will do sub 8 sec to 60. Plus it wont grenade like the V8.

Cheezey
The Jag man I took my XJ6 to has a V6 one of these as his 'using' car(I hate the term 'daily'). He has said the same, quick and good fuel economy because of how light it is. AMC Rebel
JayW
I was tempted by one a while back, but I just can't get over the front end looking so much like the x-type, I just don't like the oval lamps. WCPGW etc...
Broadsword
More XJs on Autoshite cannot be a bad thing, no matter how broken they are. I'm interested to know how much your running costs are under LPG. How light is it? Is the chassis aluminium too?

Guest Hooli
I understand the V8 problems were all solved by 2002, is that correct? Pretty much as far as I know. Mk3 (metal) timing chain tensioners & no nisaki issues as the dodgy petrol had stopped being sold by then. Someone on another forum told me they weigh about the same as a contemporary Mondeo. Jag had an unfortunate issue at the time as the smaller S-Type was slower and less economical with the same engines because the S-Type was made of steel. cpjitservices

The X type followed rather than the other way around IMHO DeeJay and Partridge

ProgRocker
Yup, good spot I've only been subscribing to the Eye since 1987.I started a sub in 2015, let it lapse in 2016 when all the 'exciting' Brexit stuff was going down but restarted it at the beginning of the year. Should be getting the next issue through the post tomorrow or Thursday. Can't wait to catch up with St. Theresa's Grammar School & Rotten Boroughs! AMC Rebel
OK, car now retrieved - as expected there are a few issues - but who expected perfection in a £1500 260K car? Things I need to sort - Driver's seat doesn't go all the way back. This is an issue as I am a lanky tosser. One headlight out - they are factory HID too so ££££££ - although could be a simple issue (yeah right).Needs a really good clean all round. Can't tax as I have 11 numbers and DVLA says I need 12 - adding a zero used to work, but they seem to have put a stop to that - bastard public paying them money! When I get a minute -There's a bury hands free phone kit - works really well, but the music mode isn't working - fairly sure I know why, but this can wait as it won't be a five minute jobFolding mirrors don't and one is cracked.Needs an autoshite sticker pics - richardthestag, alf892, Vince70 and 11 others

Broadsword
Looks pretty tidy overall. Might be high miles, but not quite as high as mine though if that is any consolation. The appearance of the engine bay is interesting, its completely packed and the strut towers come a long way towards the centre. That and the styling of the body give the impression that it is narrower car than the x300, 308 etc. AMC Rebel
AMC Rebel
First item off the list. The seat height adjuster for the rear of the drivers squab was jammed, I unbolted the seat, flipped it over and freed it off - now I can sit comfortably. djimbob, uk_senator and FakeConcern
AMC Rebel
It was bloody lovely driving this down the motorway tonight - it's so quiet compared with all my other shite. The pez engine is very very different from the 2.7 TDVi I had before. It's all about revs, very smooth where the dizzler had (as you'd imagine) a stack of torque but didn't sound as nice. uk_senator, Magnificent Rustbucket and barefoot
Partridge
If these are all alloy, is that just a case of the paint reacting with the alloy rather than body corrosion? pics -DSC_0172.JPGDSC_0173.JPGDSC_0174.JPGDSC_0175.JPGDSC_0177.JPGDSC_0178.JPGDSC_0180.JPGDSC_0181.JPGDSC_0182.JPGDSC_0183.JPGI'll be following this thread with interest, being a Jag man myself
AMC Rebel
Dunno about the corrosion - it's really not bothering me - it's not galloping rot like it would be on a steel car. flat4alfa
dieselnutjob
I would say that it is the paint unsticking rather than corrosion. The folding mirrors are an easy fix. You pull off the downlighter bulb holder underneath the mirror and then spray oil and then spray grease into the mechanism whilst working it backwards and forwards. HID headlights are as likely to be the ballast as the bulb. Also they suffer from dodgy earth points where all the wires are attached to the body just behind the headlights. Swap the bulbs over left to right. If the fault moves with the bulb then it's the bulb, if it doesn't then its the ballast or earth or something. The V6 is probably the one to have and on LPG it will be cheaper to run than the diesel and a lot more robust. A tatty V6 X350 on LPG has to be the ultimate cheap daily. Also you have 18" Dynamic wheels which give the best ride whilst being the best looking 18" wheels that they came with. uk_senator and AMC Rebel
