So I have made a last minute decision to attend this years Japan Classic Sunday http://www.japanclassicsunday.nl/info_en.html I went to it back in 2008 in the Mazda 323 but have not been since so it's long overdue. I will be getting the Eurotunnel in the early hours of Saturday morning (01-07) then heading to Amsterdam, spending Saturday night in a hostel in Amsterdam then driving to the JCS show Sunday morning and after that back to the Eurotunnel and should be back in Birmingham by midnight on Sunday (02-07).

I felt some preparation of the Subaru was needed before doing a 1000+ miles so I went to my Mothers house today to make use of her driveway. Subara met Suzuki which is looking rather sorry for itself :( Poor thing.

I stole it's CD player to add insult to injury.

Fitted it to the Subaru, it's a bit modern for a 90's car but I don't think it looks too out of place.

I checked the spare tyre and while there inspected the boot well to see if any water was present and it was dry as a bone.

I also took all the wheels off to make sure they will come off if needed, checked that brakes were present and correct and torqued the wheel nuts up. I will try and do an engine oil & filter change sometime before I set off, probably not required but I would feel better knowing that its got fresh engine oil. Apart from that I think I am all set now. Holland here I come!

Just waiting to get on the shuttle now, I missed my original departure time :( Have done 207 miles so far at an average of 36mpg which I am actually pleasantly surprised by as I was not hanging about. Only problem to report is some undertray or something decided to come loose and began rubbing on the road making a terrible noise and sounding worse than it actually was as they tend to do. Gaffer tape fixed that though!

Guest Hooli

I'm not surprised by 36mpg. My old Legacy 2.5 auto would do better than that in the short time I had it.

Their great cars those, I had the Turbot version but in SA or "sports altered" spec, ie ally doors and bonnet, GL interior, think maybe a slightly different diff? Was spot on in all the years I had it, never broke down, still flew everywhere, handling and grip were amazing, truly special cars at the time and a bit of a game changer really, certainly felt a lot more able than the 4x4 Cossie I still own.

Saw both sides of its ability one day/night.

Drove from Swansea to Gatwick on just over 1/2 a tank, 240 miles, around 80 mph, immense, forgot wallet (I know) drove back to Leigh delamare through m25/m4 traffic, (never hinted at overheating) to meet my long suffering mother to collect forgotten wallet, then drove from Chippenham to Gatwick in just over an hour.

I think deep down my missus still hasn't forgiven me for selling it but sadly needs must at the time.

Now a nice standard Turbot is a million pounds or more.

I would like to try a turbo nutter version at some point just to see how well they go.

Back home now and about to go to work :( It was an amazing weekend, I can't believe I left it so long to return. I said in 2008 that I would be back next year but that never happened. This time I will return in 2018!

I will write up a proper post about the trip once I have sorted through all my photo's, for now have a pic of the coolest estate of the show.

The trip started at Asda Minworth petrol station with a brimming of the tank.

Quite a few hours later I was in Amsterdam at my B&B and a bicycle was deployed. I did not take many photos in Amsterdam itself as I was using my phone as a Sat Nav.

This thing was super cool, just like my old 323 estate but in van form.

The trip ended at the same petrol station where I had started and by sheer coincidence I arrived with 999 miles showing on the trip meter! After another tank brimming I had used 132 litres of fuel for an average MPG of 34. It was an awesome weekend and the Subaru didn't miss a beat. I have actually grown quite fond of it now having bonded with it & so it shall be sticking around for a while longer.

Glad it all went well.

Two Camry estates at the show! Starlet estate rather neat.

Yeah those Camry's are always really distinctive with their twin rear wipers

As an aside to the thread there is a pic of a light blue Scooby outside a cottage with no front garden in my thread list or whatever it's called. Yet nowhere in the thread can I see the pic!

I'm curious as it looks local to me by the house style.

I think that was Lacquer Peels post on the first page but it may have been affected by Photobucket issues.

Photobucket Jailbreak.

I think it was at New Mill near Keith in Morayshire.
