Estate(s) of the nation - Gagging to get started on Volvo 265 GLE project 😀

I’d look for an old school body shop with the Cedric. It’s gonna need a pull I reckon looking at it, and that’s not the type of work most classic places do.
If it needs aligning, there’ll be no jig plan for it, so someone experienced will need to put it in place by eye / laser level.
You need Arthur Tussik, if you fancy a trip to Russia.

The problem a friend of mine had with an E-type he bought from west coast of US because it would be rust free. It was rust free but had huge rear end damage that had been covered up. He then had to buy another one locally to get the measurements right.

I assume Cedric is a monocoque/unibody design and not body on frame?

It might not need a jig but you do need someone with the right kit i.e proper alignment equipment to assess it for you.

You may need to tell them what (the dimensions etc) it should be though!

I think these were type-approved for the U.K. back in the day? If they were then I reckon Nissan U.K. should have the required documentation.

Has anybody enquired about buying it complete?

Pretty sure it hasn't been UK registered so can't have thought it with have a certificate of destruction.

I've got too many projects already but can't sit by and see it scrapped.

Yeah I am wondering if it can be saved complete its far too much of a legendary car on here to be broken for spares and im pretty sure Heidel_Kakao either had replacement panels or knew where to source them from

perhaps @trigger can work his Volvo magic on it? :)

thankfully its not been issued a CoD (not that, that would stop me LOL)

I guess the insurance payout was pretty hefty for such a rare J car. Very sad to see it come to this though. Poor old thing was only imported in 2018 and looked immaculate pre-bump. I guess HK is still unwell and the money is more useful. I did get the impression this car was a keeper though. As for panels, it was mentioned a few pages back that the original seller still had spare front end panels available to buy, but that it would be a lengthy roadtrip for collection.

Surely once it's been bought by a specialist breaker, it's unlikely they'll ever let it leave again in one piece...

Proper shame - it's such a cool car.

Totting up the prices they are asking, for all the parts they have for sale from poor Cedric, it comes to £5215. Not sure what the car is worth as a complete unit.

Not a clue on values, but I'd imagine it would be virtually impossible to find such a solid example anywhere now.

It's too late I guess, but this car seriously didn't deserve this grim end.

Showing up with a scrap marker for me

Forgetting ‘poor Cedric’ for a moment, what about poor Heidl? You should be ashamed of yourselves bothering about the fate of his car, which was separated from him under unfavourable circumstances, and he languishing somewhere unknown. Funny that the very same people egging him on to do silly things now come out of the woodwork again to lament the breaking up of his car, when by all accounts his mental health suffered a breakdown too. How about forgetting the broken car and concentrate on the wellbeing of an actual person who needs to get back on the road. Fucking vultures.

as I understand it he is getting help, I dont know the details of it as I could tell it was a bit of touchy subject last I asked about, however concern for how  he was doing, was expressed by me and other members as recently as the last FoD gathering, he has certainly not been forgotten about :)

and I know the Cedric meant a lot to him, so I imagine getting it saved would probably help a lot with his wellbeing in-fact :)

if your worried about people possibly forgetting about him and  his well being by all means do express concern but please no need to be so rude about it :)

a Scrapped marker is not the same as CoD :), a CoD is a fairly recent introduction with its own flag, the scrapped marker however goes all the way back the inception of the DVLA computer system in the 1970's

its still a shame to see tho as I do worry about the intact-ness of the Cedric given how long ago the scrapped marker date was, ie has it already been broken down into its component parts, or is still thankfully intact in a yard somewhere?

However it is worth noting a scrapped marker date is just that, its the same a keeper change date, in that if you said you scrapped the car on the 14-12-1987, then thats what they will put on the system even if you only notify the DVLA that you scrapped the vehicle tomorrow!

so the scrapped marker may only actually be a recent thing and the vehicle still be intact, it could simply be the date it was written off

otherwise a scrapped marker concerns me little in the grand scheme of saving the Cedric , sure it might mean a little extra paperwork maybe, but nothing insurmountable, and a lot less damming then a CoD thats for sure! :)

Sad indeed to see - and both HK and the Cedric haven't been far from the thoughts of many here. His absence has been raised a few times on the 'Members Left/ Leaving/ Returned' thread. Details on how things are with him at present seems to be scant, however.

Incidentally, the 'Date Scrapped' on the DVLA details seems to be the date of the accident last year - 6 July 2021.

Maybe if people had been allowed to post what they thought on his thread when it became obvious he was mentally ill and needed help rather than being shouted down it wouldn't have ended this way.

He was obviously under the effect of drugs numerous times when he drove to meetings, it's lucky he didn't kill some pedestrian or the driver of an oncoming vehicle when he wrote off the Cedric.

Personally I reported him to his local fire arms unit as I had grave concerns about his mental health and access to firearms yet people were still egging him on even after buying a lorry he couldn't drive and had no license for but which he pictured himself driving about.

Nothing what so ever has been learned on this forum from the death of poor Hendry.

Edit, mental health issues are a bit of a sore point for me, as somebody who has had to deal with the fall out from a family member with similar mental health issues I received help I couldn't have got elsewhere and useful suggestions from several members on here. I would like to add that there are some really good people on here but those egging somebody on when they are clearly in a manic phase and slagging off anybody who posted contrary does not help the person involved.

As I remember it, it was mainly him egging himself on, at least in the later stages once it became apparent that he wasn't quite right.  The majority of people in his Railton Heavy Industries thread told him he was being daft but he didn't want to hear it.  Obviously early on there was a lot of enthusiasm on here for the St*lw*rt purchase(s), but that is par for the course on this forum when someone wants to buy something a bit silly - and the Cedric collection thread is still one of my all time favourite threads on here, despite being tainted slightly by what came afterwards.

As regards James himself, enquiries were made some time ago as to his wellbeing and the response was that he was not in a great place but was getting help, but the impression given was that it was a very private matter and further probing would not be very welcome.  I assume that the situation will remain the same until we are told otherwise.

I would have thought openly debating the personal circumstances of a third party without their consent was more distasteful than highlighting the fate of a car?

Im sure all wish the forum member well, and it’s not wrong to draw attention to the status of a rare and interesting car at the same time as this. There’s a lot of goodwill here, not necessary to start slagging each other off.

I’ve noticed his 265 has a scrapped marker on it too, dating to 2005. I think it was too far gone to revive anyway.

A very sad turn of events. Hopefully he’s getting the help he needs.  A car is just nuts and bolts at the end of the day.

Exactly this. I don't think it's fair to discuss the details of the person, especially when so much is unknown or may want to be kept private. Offline, I've made enquiries but it's not fair to discuss that in public. Whereas the car is there to be discussed, and hopefully saved. While the parts may have a theoretical potential of over £5000, I find it highly unlikely that much would actually sell and do hope the car can find a new home.

I've asked the question, awaiting response. Will update, but NOTE I will not be buying it, but this will be for info only.

(I couldn't be trusted with it tbh, it'll be better for all concerned if I left it well alone if you get my drift)

Got to be worth 2k at least for the oval I would have thought.

I think the only person in the UK with the same model is JonCedric (who was on Retro rides but not on here) I can't see him wanting too many parts so I imagine most interest will come from abroad.

I also recon it's very unlikely Synetic will sell a car complete which has a scrapped marker against it, does anybody know what category of write off it is?

Having had my own fairly public mental breakdown, I'm in agreement that discussion of the car is appropriate but discussion of HK himself probably isn't. That extends to the role of the forum as a whole, it's not fair to expect a group of people known for encouraging daft shit to stop encouraging daft shit just because someone is unwell.
