pogweasel
Mark 2 "Disastra" Merit estate I had 2 of these, pretty much 'back to back', only punctuated by 4 grim months in a Mk4 Escort. These Astra's are great cars, smooth, quiet and generally indestructable. Both of mine were 1.6 "L" specs. Delicious. The first was killed by attempting to set the land speed record on the M1 (naughty speed led to an oil eruption!) The second got robbed by pikies. Grr! Audi 100 Saloon-needs bumpers LOOK OUT! MrRegieRitmo
But they look so straight! I was just thinking how good looking that model of Zodiac & Cresta were! They're pretty rare now. I wasn't even sure I'd seen that type of Cresta before, but I feel I must have done at some point, as I recognise the rear of it.

Guest
Mr Rootes, is that your Simca shite in your signature? No its from another site I visited. The bloke had a simca 1100 in his garage for a few years. He asked his mate to tow it out so he could sell it. The brakes were stuck on so the mate gave it some welley to drag it out and the car snapped in two

MrRegieRitmo
Owners open to genuine/reasonable offersThat's about as straight and honest a car as you could hope to get! I've never really been that bothered about Orion's but that particular one would have to be my preferred style with all the low spoilers & such. Considering it's only a 1.6 on what looks like a top spec car, did the engines really get no bigger than that? I would prefer to have this car but with the black plastic front grille of the early style Orion, but that's just me.I love the rear lights on this facelift though, with the segments picked out in black! Tell me, did they rehash MkV Cortina rear lights to create the Orion ones or are they just a similar style?I'm going to say I think they are because there is a particular model of Taunus I've seen based on a heavily modified / upgraded MkV Cortina which looks hideous in my opinion, but it sports rear lights like the original MkIII Escort based Orion which seems to be the right shape for the Corty. r.welfare
They DO look very similar to a Mk5 Cortina light, I wouldn't be surprised if they are the same, could be wrong though. Only a tape measure test will tell!1.6i was the top of the line motor for both the Onion and the Scrote in the 80's and early 90's. Ford USA managed to stretch the CVH to 1.9 litres - a number of tuning companies here used that block to get fairly serious power from the turbo version - but Ford Europe never used it. So 105bhp (108 for 1990 only) was all you got in this one. There's quite a nice early (D-reg) unmolested one on eBay at the moment. This one looks a little rotten around the rear arches and I dread to think how much rot that bodykit hides. The full RS kit was quite popular on Escorts, Orions and (oddly) Granada Scorpios at the time, I dread to think how much it all cost!
