eddyramrod
Well let's see.... 44 yo Cadillac Coupe deVille = 1955 Cadillac Coupe deVille (win)28 yo Rover 213 = 1968 Triumph 1300 (draw)9 yo Chevrolet Tacuma = 1988 Vauxhall Astra estate (lose) On balance, I'll take what I've got. My actual fleet at this point in 1997 consisted of just one car, my 1978 Volvo 244GL automatic (not including the estate I was using as a spares car). warren t claim, danthecapriman and Junkman
danthecapriman
I was just thinking that 20 years ago, all my cars would still have been classed as old.The Capri would have been seriously uncool at that time too! The Volvo is my newest car and would have been 9 years old. So well into the old used car phase of life. eddyramrod
Noel Tidybeard
2017 sees me with a 37 year old Austin saloon and a 23 year old Rover saloon.20170409-03.jpg That probably puts me in a shabby, weirdly coloured 1960 Princess and a shiny red with vinyl roof (but small engine and manual gearbox) 1974 P6. These are the closest examples I could find. DSC00086.jpg 7202824522_e641761efb.jpg Not sure if I like my current driveway or my 1997 driveway better. i think your driveway would have been a red maurice marrauder and a 1800 landcrab in black tulip
vulgalour
Actually, now you mention it, the Landcrab is a better fit. Though I propose it be brush painted in Aconite rather than Black Tulip. Not prepared to give up my fictional P6 for a Moggy though.
eddyramrod
I'm inclined to think the Rover equivalent might have been a Triumph Dolomite, probably in 1300 or 1500 flavour. Just a thought... vulgalour and Ghosty
chodweaver
A black 1.9SD Xantia, P934RFB (a present to myself having had my tenure of a 1.9TXD BX cut far too short) while the wife was slumming it in the heirloom ZX (by far the better car) K335OHT. Sorry, to my knowledge no pics exist from these halcyon days. At least, of the three green blooded Citroens I've had long term, the current one is proving the most reliable and yet is the oldest... LC Torana
I would have: A 1981 2600 SE: A 1955 Rover 90: And a fabric-bodied 1929 Rover 10/25 (restoration project): Junkman
Timewaster
I wonder what the 1997 equivalent of my 16 year old Sharalambraxy? A 1983 7 seater? 505 Estate? Cx Estate? Toyota Spacecruiser? All win over 2017. In reality, all 7 would just bundle in a Cortina estate. Sapphire Cosworth would be a Mk2 Lotus Cortina. Fitting a the less loved second model. Missuses 206 would become a 1986 205. Win! What would the 1948 equivalent of a spitfire be? Other than fucked?

AMC Rebel
I'd take most of the 20 year older variants please - so > > And a 1947 for parts > (actually a 1974 but this is closest I could find) > I think this is probably the closest to my MG ZT-T although they don't appear to have made the MG this late or as an estate. Would take it though - I have always liked these and preferred the estate visually. Back in the day a bloke I worked with swapped out of his 316 for an MG Montego and was very pleased - better performance, comfort, practicality and more gadgets, but don't tell the motoring press or TV. > This is probably the only one I wouldn't swap - the Disco 3 was a massive leap forward in my book. > catsinthewelder, Cleon-Fonte, eddyramrod and 2 others

Stanky
Good thread. As others have said I'd be a lot cooler in 1997 (had I been driving) Saab equivalent would have been a 1984 900 moar-door Toyota equivalent would be a 1983 Tercel clearly a winner. Spottedlaurel
Hillman Estate car from 1948ish.............. Last one aside, I can easily imagine you having any of those. Going from the oldest first: 1973 Datsun 1200 would be some ludicrously rare small Japanese car of the early 1950s. Very little to choose from as they weren’t building many cars then, maybe this? http://www.nissan-global.com/EN/HERITAGE/datsun_deluxe_sedan.html 1980 Datsun Laurel would be something biggish from 1960. Still no UK imports by that time, and there wasn’t a Cedric until 1961 so I’ll have to bend the rules and go for a Prince Skyline: 1988 Nissan Sunny means I can go back to 1968 which was when official UK imports began. To equate with mine being a hatchback, it would have to be this (neatly photographed 20 years ago): 1969 Datsun 1000 Estate (B10), Billing JAE 1997 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1993 Camry gives me a couple of interesting choices, the obvious one being a Crown and particularly so for its rear-facing 3rd row of seats: 1972-ish Toyota Crown Custom Estate by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr But I feel like I’m cheating a bit as mine is just the 2.2, so perhaps this instead? 1973 Toyota Corona 2000 MkII Estate by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr The Avensis and Auris moderns would equate 1990 Carina II and Corolla. The reality of what I had back then was this for me: 1978 Datsun 180B (810), 1996/97 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr And this low mileage Acclaim for the future Mrs SL: Triumph Acclaim HL by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Both pictured on my actual driveway from 1997. eddyramrod, AMC Rebel, catsinthewelder and 3 others

panhard65
My driveway currently has these 2I suppose 20 years ago it would be a 504 estate and probably a 912 porsche as they were the unloved one of the time. The Peugeot 204 and the Silver shadow would probably be the same 20 years ago. Back in 1997 my driveway was far more exciting as I had a Land Rover 110 and a Renault 25 V6 turbo. Sir Snipes
fordperv
The line up at the moment is 2x mk1 sierra 3 door, sapphire glsi, series 2 escort rs turbo and a mk3 1.6 capri laser so i think mine would be 2 base model mk1 cortina 2 doors, a mk2 cortina 4 door 1600e, a mk2 escort rs2000, mk1 capri 1.
