Mrs P has a 12 yr old Lexus is250, 80 something thousand miles.  I hadn't driven it for ages but took it to Sheffield yesterday during which time,

1. The judder when pulling off in 1st was horrendous

2. The gear change is generally awful

3. Given that it's a 2.5 6 potter, it's as slow and un-torquey as a road roller

4. There is a horrible burning smell when navigating the city's several hills (7?)

The Lexus interweb pages suggest it is probably borked clutch and/or DMF.  If online diagnosis is to be believed, is this a huge cost to repair or is it effectively game over?

Apparently the IS250s have a bit of a poor reputation. I eyed them up before I ended up being a knobhead.

The six cylinder engine feels underpowered, the manual gearbox seems to be even notchier than the one Volvo bunged in the S60, and the autobox is ponderous and saps even more power away.

A shame, otherwise they look cracking.
