I like that. Much nicer to look at then an equivalent bugeye corolla.

Aaaaah camaaaaahn. Ugly is lovely. This tub is just nonedescript. In a beauty contest a BugEye might get a pity fuck. This wouldnt get noticed unless it took a shit on a judges chest. Which it wouldn't because its too polite.

EASY NOW SUCKERS

I am going to do some fettling on this at the weekend. Both outer CV boots are looking a bit 'jaded' so i am gonna see about changing em. Has anyone any previous on these? Can i just twat the outer CV joint off the shaft or do i have to dig about inside looking for a circlip? Should I attempt to remove the shaft from the gearbox? Maybe leave the inner CV in the gearbox, slide the shaft + outer out of it etc? Obv I am gonna undo it at the hub end.

I know i can fathom all this out etc but it would speed the job up if someone can give me some pointers. PLus I am gonna attempt it at the house which isn't as well-equipped as the unit for this kind of SHIZZNAK.

He would've been the only person to do that, and the fella in the Haynes manual. I always end up spending five hours twiddling around with an invisible clip with every single tool I have that might work while daubing a 2 metre radius on the floor with CV grease.

A trick I used that only ever worked once is suspend the other end from a roof while fruitlessly messing around trying to unclip the circlip, gravity should drop it.

Done a bit on this today. First job was to fit two new outer CV boots. That job didnt even get started as I didn't have a 32mm socket to get the friggin hub nuts undone. The problem is i moved house in December, most of my tools are up the garage which is now 1.5 hours from where i live. FFS. I will juts order a new socket off eBay I suppose. Next, replace a bottom ball joint:

I'll just point out that I do not have this carpet in the house. ANyway a new Delphi balljoint was souced off the interwebs for a tenner, and slotted on a treat. The old onw was indeed kippered.

Next job was to have a look at the wipers which have got loads of slop in them.

Took the scutle off and dismantled the mechanism.

Turns out the rod which goes from the wiper motor to the linkage in the middle of the car, has a nylon bush at each end, one of which is gubbed:

I have done some googling and found out what the part number is (mazda BC1M67361). Its still available in the states so I will have a look along at the Mazda dealer in Derby this week and see if they want to try and order one up for me, unless anyone knows any Mazda dealers who they can reccomend to another shiter? I dont hold out much hope generally when going to main dealers for shite componentry.

Finally i bust out the polishing mop and had a go at it:

Only got the front end done, then the flippin sponge mop fell apart quicker than one of Corbyn's 'attacks' in PMQ's!!! The car looks the absolute donkeys dong though so i will get a new mop head and crack on! This is going to be such a sweet little motor.

At the risk of sounding all 'Detailing World' I attacked it with a clay bar, then Farecla G-something rubbing compound, then some cheap turtle wax (love owt to do with turtles me) then some poncy Meguiars wax stuff in a red bottle. Hopefully a decent coating of wax will keep the pogweaseling away long enough for me to get the whole car done. PLus its under my manky old new carport which blocks out most of the light!!!

On most drive shafts on fwd that I've done inner boots on the inner end of the shaft has a round section circlip type thing on, that you will doubtless know the correct name of! You need a good accurate crack with a heavy hammer to knock the shaft out with, then similar to get it back in.

Apologies if you already knew this.

Dunno if this will work for you but when one of those plastic balljoint things fell apart on the wiper linkage on my Berlingo, I used one of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-PUNTO-MK1-MK2-176-188-WINDSCREEN-WIPER-LINKAGE-LINK-MOTOR-REPAIR-CLIP-KIT-2-/361278210879?hash=item541ddc033f:g:xVQAAOSwZd1VZFCJ

Might be able to hold the remains of your balljoint together if you remove the penny washer/self tapper/cable tie arrangement that's on there now.

Certainly a cheap fix compared to £CERTAIN_TIGERBUMMING for a new linkage from the US.

For such an unpretentious motor I think that would have been very handsome when new. Presumably this was about the time when Mazda where having a hard time of it. If they're Escort rival looked as good as that but still failed to sell then no wonder they gave-up.

The lad at Beechdale Mazda (parts dept) in Derby is pretty helpful. If its on their electrickery system they'll help out. Tell them you want a discount too! They matched an online price for me 2 weeks ago on MX5 bits.

Do you want me to bring a 32mm socket to work tomorrow?
