Cavalier mk2 - another blue giffermobile.

Although the exhaust system is perfectly serviceable, it looks a bit shabby against the rest of the car. I could try painting it, but ideally would like a new one. I've tried asking local exhaust suppliers, but all that has yielded is a new back box. Does anyone know of an exhaust supplier that carries old stock for shite like this? Would like a middle section mainly, as the front and rear parts are pretty recent.

Front wheels now on, should hopefully be sourcing oil, coolant and a battery over the weekend.  :)

Was going to suggest the Bosal Exhaust site.

But they only list a back box too (maybe what those suppliers used too?)

I use 7Zap for looking up parts for my GM tat. Used to use a site called ECat24, as it was fantastic site for looking up stuff unfortunately it was nuked from TEH INTERNETZ. But 7Zap is good enough to find the OE number.

Then I'd go to MM Opel parts, German eBay (or regular UK one) or Classic Opel Parts Emmen and bang the number into there. As they might list either a genuine one or an aftermarket one.

Edit - I actually enjoy parts hunting. So I think I've found what you're after?

No guarantees mind!

GM Part Number is 90169931.

But have a ganders at this eBay listing to compare it to what you have.

Many thanks!

Calipers are blue due to skintness, and being the only caliper paint I had on the shelf. When the sliders inevitably seize up, they'll be getting sent to Big Red - in the mean time, they'll not be seen once the wheel trims go on.    :)

I have the same Sports Blue on my Puma calipers and drums, though nowhere near as neat as @4wheeledstool's work. I think the stuff I chose was meant for engine blocks but I doubt my calipers get above 100 degrees because I drive like a nun.

I've bought stuff from MM and COPE earlier this year - proper genuine tackle, but a bit pricey! That ebay listing you posted looks spot on - thank you kindly! (Order placed!)

Always found Bosal decent quality and a good fit. Some people hated however. Is it that close to being a road worthy car now @4wheeledstool?

All that needs to be done apart from the exhaust, is to add a battery, fuel, oil, coolant and brake juice. (Then re-fit interior)   :)

No problem 👍

Yeah, then chuck in the postage... 😥

In my case it was a full outer sill. So yeah, that stung! 😂

All vital fluids have now been procured, but they're still in their containers. I want to bleed the brakes, then fit the exhaust so I can drop the car on the deck before attempting to start it. The gear shift linkage is now connected and adjusted up.

Tidying up the front and rear sections of the exhaust was next on the list. They were cleaned up with a wire wheel and drill attachments (missed those guys!) Then given a good clean with thinners.

So far, the front part has received a coating of exhaust paint at work (where its warmer than my shed!).

I'll paint the back box tomorrow. Hopefully the new mid section I've ordered doesn't take too long to arrive.  :)

How do you change a clutch without removing the box? I demand enlightenment

Finally got round to taking a picture of the removable panel in the bell housing to shows how the clutch can be changed.

Not bad - nearly 4 years late!

Got a few more bits done on this, the brakes are now fully functional with a nice pedal, the throttle cable is now connected up and adjusted, and the freshened up front pipe is in position.

The rear section is ready to fit....

Just waiting for the new mid section to arrive. Once fitted, I can drop the car on the deck and hopefully run it up.   :)

Exhaust arrived yesterday  - pretty good going taking just over a week from Poland.  A side by side comparison shows the new item is a better quality product.

20211222_174943.thumb.jpg.df94a65474b914ab880ed4df8a317dfa.jpg

The bends are nicer, and the hangers are actually positioned correctly.

20211222_174953.thumb.jpg.4edb6228ddfa2458345aa6ba902c27c8.jpg

The only down side was they had to cut it to get the package size down, but they did supply a joining piece to make up for it!

It's now in position, but suspended by cable ties until the correct rubbers arrive.

The fit isn't bad at all considering it's all pattern parts.  :)

Its alive! The video is too large a file size to upload, but its alive. So far just a small leak from one of the pipes to the fuel filter, an easy fix. Was running for about an hour and a half, then ran out of fuel.

Hopefully I'll make a start on putting the dash and interior  back in over the Christmas break.  :)

This must have been the single greatest piece of design that was ever fitted to a front wheel drive car.

Such a shame it wasn't continued on by all manufacturers, even GM eventually dropped it.

I found some grill grommets on Ebay (after none being available for months) No need for my improvised ones any more!

20211224_101713.thumb.jpg.c528edcc8206e1abf6c75670b725a3fa.jpg

They arrived on Christmas Eve, along with a couple of these exhaust rubbers.

20211224_101855.thumb.jpg.bf885a1a174530374d6d5abdc9a86cb3.jpg

I'm gonna leave fitting these until I can get the car up in the air - exhaust fettling is so much easier when you can do it standing up!

Finally got round to fitting the front bumper today.

20211227_182222.thumb.jpg.3109969cd26e229edb52c20b6028bfb0.jpg

Then dug these out for fettling.

20211227_115805.thumb.jpg.45e5f9a600e1a0915681592f51fe3c6c.jpg

I'm hoping to get a bit more done over the next week.   :)

Got the carpets and a few interior trim pieces back in this morning.

20211230_150245.thumb.jpg.4dec79516f6abb999eac96351dc33d85.jpg

I decided to have a search for the other two mudflaps in my assorted storage facilities - I found them, but one of the Griffins has escaped!

20211230_172438.thumb.jpg.9750858ef870601fe762b3595b7d7e02.jpg

On the hunt for a replacement now.  :(

In the afternoon I gathered up a load of interior stuff from home, and carted it all over to the shed.

20211230_165644.thumb.jpg.d377c516e8e5deaea0be4bedb3e68680.jpg

I wasn't planning to put the dash back in today, but thought that I may as well get it started.

Plonked in loosely to work out where the spaghetti needs to go.

20211230_190726.thumb.jpg.41a862a21fb1a137d4a2357dd253bc81.jpg

Hardest part done now, even managed to tuck the dash under the screen rubber.

20211230_213206.thumb.jpg.014690b9638d253fc00a546cbd14e258.jpg

After a few more bits went back on, my time had run out.

20211230_215651.thumb.jpg.13bbf8aaccb2dbf1a85aca14ad728b1d.jpg

Should be back on it tomorrow  with a little luck.

The rest of the dash gubbins are now back in.

20211231_161705.thumb.jpg.0b8436e7db82096e893a02404d7d130e.jpg

I surprised myself by remembering how it all goes together!

20211231_161632.thumb.jpg.a988d3826853653954bb4ef307fa4c29.jpg

A quick check of all electrical features revealed that everything functions as intended (for which I was most grateful!).

Not a right lot of jobs left to do now, I can take my time getting everything finished up as I have no intention of getting it back on the road until the Spring.

Is that a light under the bonnet or a stick on torch?

A little more was put back where it belongs today. First up the rear seat backs were fitted, closely followed by the boot floor carpet and load cover/parcel shelf.

20220108_155045.thumb.jpg.c1e2f3a22847aa7fb6d46421b1110ef4.jpg

I've got so used to seeing the spare wheel through the hatch window that it looks odd to me with all this stuff back in position.

20220108_155520.thumb.jpg.e958807b693d0091e376166d46096f21.jpg

Time was short on it today, so once the bits you sit on were fitted, I had to vacate.

20220108_163502.thumb.jpg.cbef83ad322afd523b8aaa60c2c82d62.jpg

Hopefully I'll get some more bits cleaned and refitted tomorrow.   :)
