RayMK
Well fuck me with a bottle brush. It only bloody works and drives. The like is for the second sentence. Well done! I can remember when DIY mechanics in all weathers were the only way to affordably keep mobile. Grim determination just about wins, but suicide seems easier. You deserve an AS medal. bub2006
Disability, lack of left arm strength, cold ice and no driveway means it took a few days as well as working too but I've won. Speedo is out ithink but not a big issue, clutch needs adjusting slightly and tracking needs doing but will have to wait. Clutch feels really light now too. A big thank you to cleon fonte for popping over the other day too Lacquer Peel, Richard and purplebargeken
bub2006
Yes it's had gear oil. I'm bloody broke now though. Hope work picks up soon.
Guest Hooli
Sounds similarly fun to a day I once spent about 400 miles from home changing the gearbox on a Discovery on my own with just two trolley jacks for company. It was snowing that day too.
twosmoke300
Keep an eye out for leaks bub - as someone mentioned above the driveshaft oils seals on those leak for fun and it would be a shame for you to kill the gearbox after all that work . bub2006
It's had one new seal but I can't afford the rest just yet by have to strip final drive, speedo housing etc off to replace drive and seals but will have to wait. Bin meantime I will keep an eye on it. 28 quid for the bloody fluid.
ianjobber87
Just caught up on this thread. Good work bub on getting this sorted out. Glad to see its still going though.
bub2006
So far it's had door pin welded, tyres, track rod end, clutch, small service, cambelt, water pump, auxiliary belt, tensioner and speedo drive and seal. Next up is the back bumper, rear corner welded, full service with diesel filter, tracking, door hinges and alignment, reseal roof skin, ply line it, new speakers and auxiliary lights. It's got roof rails on now and will have a rack made up to go on. I love it. Sound little van. Solid underneath too The Moog, Coprolalia, Dick Longbridge and 6 others
DodgyBastard
Make a list of any spare parts you are needing and if I have them spare, you can have them free of charge. That includes the bulkhead which I have kept for you. The Moog, loserone, They_all_do_that_sir and 1 other
bub2006
Cheers mate. I'll try find out. I know I need rear bumper over rider, drivers seat is starting to collapse but I want to replace both front seats with two door car ones so can tilt it. DodgyBastard
Cheers mate. I'll try find out. I know I need rear bumper over rider, drivers seat is starting to collapse but I want to replace both front seats with two door car ones so can tilt it.I'd be interested to hear which 2 door seats are a direct fit. I'd like some tilting seats for my own one. Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk
bub2006
I think anything can be made to fit really. I plan to look at saxo, clio, 106 seats as they are easier to get.
bub2006
Oh FOAD, has the spares van got the cover to go over the fuel pipe? Mines gone awol!
bub2006
Another point worthy of mention. The van hasn't been started since Tuesday. Been up on ramps while work done. I put the battery on and only turned ignition on, light went out and fired straight up. The escort used to need 4 cycles min after a cold spell at night! bub2006
The Audi and xantia started OK. I think escort had knackered glow plugs
Lacquer Peel
XUD FTW, those Ford 1.8 diesels are the pits.
bub2006
Engine wasn't too bad in it, dw8 as a NA diesel lump is world's better though
Richard
My Ford 1.8 Diesel could at least keep the coolant on the inside. The rest of the car was dreadful but I thought the engine was ok.
bub2006
Mine towed OK but was dreadful on fast roads. Overtaking took a scientific equation
DodgyBastard
Wish I could say the same for my c15. It doesn't start at all at the moment. Think it needs glow plugs. If it's the fuel filler cover inside the van then I will probably have it.
bub2006
Yes that's the one, covers up filler neck. Would glow plugs from spares one fit?
bub2006
How accurate are phone gps speedos or sat navigation speed? I Nipped out earlier and coming up the a38 I was being overtaken by everything and speedo was reading 80 which is highly unlikely!
bub2006
I'm guess the inner bit I've got off the Berlingo is out. If I went back and got the cog from the end of cable off the scrapper would speedo read right or would it be the speedo itself reading wrong
Kiltox
GPS is more accurate than a speedo so you'll be fine using that
bub2006
I plan to nip to Scrapyard and get the speedo end drive and see if that helps
plasticvandan
You need the gear for the c15 to match the c15 speedo
Dave_Q
Sat nav should be bob-on, the Berlingo thingy is probably different to take account of different gear ratios, wheel size etc. Just leave it as is and impress passengers with your new fearsome top speed. GR12 work on getting it done, was wishing I had some time to come and give you a hand but you got there in the end. Big RESTECP to Dave_numbers aka the C15 whisperer as well.
