Are these based on something American?

I don't think it was their own work, but Isuzu's take over by GM was in 1971 and the TD series pre-dates this, so probabaly not a yank. However, it looks suspiciously like a Mitsubishi Fuso T800 (there are some differences (eg the wings)) ,and Isuzu had a joint venture with Mitsubishi in the '60's....  the interweb seems to be very short of info.

Mitsubishi Fuso T800^^^ And I found this...

And as we know Daewoo were very much part of GM from 1972 (before then they were associated with Toyota). This one has the air of a mid 70's face lift about it. So was it a Korean built version of the Isuzu (the wing shapes suggests it is), Isuzu are now part of GM remember, based on the Mitsubishi Fuso T800, Mitsubishi now being associated with arch Korean rivals?

In the Top Gear Burma Special, Hammond and Clarkson both had these. They weren't sure what they'd bought because they had Isuzu badges on the bodywork and Mitsubishi on the running gear. There must be a lot of them still running all over Asia.

This really should be in the caravan or bus thread, so sue me.

Built in 1938 it's a Reo bus chassis with a rear mounted White V12 engine, towing a Curtis Aerocar caravan.

These do remind me a bit of the BMC WF series in appearance, much better built no doubt…

We have had an addition to the circus fleet. Sorry @Cavcraft it's an Iveco but it does have a redeeming feature in that it was a truck for the Ferrari race team, and only has about 150 thou on it. No idea what was paid for it but it's got to be a sizable chunk. No Ferrari's found down the back of the seat unfortunately.

Turns out it's done less than 150 thou. 130 thou and from 2007 so only about 8 thou a year. Hardly run in. I believe another may be coming soon that is in better condition, which I find hard to believe as this one is immaculate.

Sad news - an era is ending :( After 40 years Bob Carmichael is officially retiring and the man himself confirmed he's coming off the road at the end of July. The F88 is for sale - no idea how much he wants for it as even he doesn't seem to know what it's worth and is just saying "make me an offer" but he gave the impression it's likely to be a lot.

A familiar sight at the Gaydon shows but leaving for the last time
