CreepingJesus
Definitely odd, because Stonefield were still going strong when it was operational, so spare panels would've been available if it had been damaged. Probably custom built, but why...? Don't suppose it matters really, I've just been fascinated by them since a Scottish Motor Show when I was wee. With a Mopar 318 in it, it seemed like some kind of monster truck!
doug
Yes it's a Stonefield. The owner is restoring it. I think it was built with this body on it from new. Here is a pic of mine. Also the red one above (ex Faslane) is also still around but not been on the road for some time. Gaffer
Might be a daft question but is there a way to track down the potential whereabouts of an old lorry? I’d love to know if my step dads 1994 Scania 113 was still around somewhere and potentially buy it back. Free Hpi type check doesn’t show it as exported and last new logbook in 2003 but not sure if export marker is accurate for commercial stuff? doug
Don't think it's possible to track its whereabouts. But the DVLA vehicle checker and Mot checker will let you know if its still around somewhere. Also google the reg number sometimes will bring up photos of it. Best of luck.Sent from my SM-A127F using Tapatalk
Gaffer
No hits from googling the reg number and dvla vehicle check shows it on sorn and no Mot details (but I didn’t think dvla mot checker worked for hgv’s?). Wishful thinking is it’s still laid up somewhere in the UK!

catsinthewelder
I should have taken a picture earlier but I saw a Chester and District road sweeper parked in in a normal space between 2 cars in Aldi carpark in Ludlow.

When the service first started HGV s were not on there but it now works for both my old and current HGV horseboxes just without MoT mileages but it does give you full details of the testing station. auntiemaryscanary
This is next to the tip at Calverton, Notts. I was at the tip today so poked my phone through the bars. The yard is usually rammed but not so much in there today. I assume when the trucks have had their Euro rating lowered they are shipped off to developing countries. A full pic of the bus is in the Bus shite thread. Vantman, catsinthewelder, CreepingJesus and 2 others

ACF car finance had a fleet of these, the Drivers would always ask if there was any chance I could re-end the burst hyd hose instead of replacing the complete assembly, as if they had to pay for the repair out their own pocket. MJK 24
The unit is going to the same paint shop to have its wheels painted. They’re alloy, but sadly not durabrite! So they’re caked in burnt on brake dust and as a result, completely tarnished. Of course I discovered a nail in one of the rear tyres when I got there. So took it to a local Lodge Tyre to have it plugged. I don’t want tyres removed from freshly painted wheels! The rear tyres are on 11mm of tread and it’s got new discs, pads and calipers on so the wheels should be safe for some time to come! goosey

Ive always had MAN. I needed a Euro 6 unit and don’t have loads of money. So with the smaller sleeper, I guess it was undesirable to most people but therefore affordable to me. It’ll be pulling the trailer above. I thought that with it being used for petrol, the maintenance would be absolutely perfect. It’s all been done by MAN in Thurrock but they won’t tell me much other than it was fully serviced by them incl gearbox and diff about 5 weeks before I got it. The brakes on the front axle and rear axle are brand new including calipers! Engine oil is spotless. Checked the air filter and that’s new. I need to get the drain plugs out and stick a cable tie in the gearbox and diff to make sure those have actually been done! Im pleased with it so far anyway! worldofceri, scruff, Dyslexic Viking and 2 others
sutty2006
Don’t take the drain plugs out to check, you’ll end up with the oil on the floor instead! I used to work at an MAN dealer many years ago, and still have good contacts there. But if that truck was previously on an R+M contract then they tend to have all of the cash thrown at them at the right time. MJK 24

God knows how much the last service cost with four new calipers etc. Must be a third of the £18k I paid for it.
sutty2006
Calipers are about a grand each minus surcharge. Probably still using Wabco calipers? I’d know just by looking at them. They seize up for fun, but the knorr bremse ones are just as bad for wearing the outer pads out 3 times faster than the inners.

I just noticed they’re black and shiny and I didn’t have to pay for them! It was registered February 2017 if that narrows it down? We have a 2008 TGL 7.5 tonner we have had from new. 1,390,000 on it now and only had one of its original calipers changed last summer! The TGL is more my era, 2005-2010 at MAN, then 2012-2014, then left AGAIN to go to a DAF dealer , 2014-2016…. Then 2016 to present day at Mercedes. 808 Estate
From a few years ago. Was outside having a smoke with a colleague and we heard a low flying jet. Looking up didnt spot anything then this looking like something from Thunderbirds drove round the corner. Naturally we had to look closer. A brief chat with the guy driving it revealed the noise was from a supercharged 2 stroke V8 Detroit. It would also do 75 mph which apparently was great fun for scaring the shite out of unattentive drivers on motorways, or by getting really close behind them on roundabouts. In the back was 9 tons of water and 2 tons of foam. The pumps on board could empty the lot to a point 150m away in under 2 minutes. He also demonstrated how the main monitor was gimballed and counterweighted. You could easily move it with one finger and it remained where placed. Really cool technology. While we are on fire engines, this is the one from RAF Cosford. Another smaller but purposeful looking machine. And finally a rather tasty machine owned by a customer we maintained some funky RF equipment for. catsinthewelder, mat_the_cat, MJK 24 and 6 others
