Not popular anymore as cars have got taller making it difficult to use all three decks. Manheim are still running a handful. I think they and Arnold Clark was the last ‘new’ customer for them. I don’t think Arnold Clark have any left. Still very popular with the salvage people as you can fill all the decks and squash the cars a little to get the height down as this little Hyundai at the back of the bottom deck is finding out… puddlethumper and busmansholiday
quicksilver
I still see a couple of those fairly regularly in use with Nick Pelosi from Milton Keynes, who transports VAG cars and usually pulls one with this big Actros V8, allegedly tuned to more than 660bhp. His trucks are all on the older side too, this 61-reg being the newest, but always immaculately turned out. Edit: looks like these are only the 5-car version missing the middle deck. They still look a fair bit older than the fancy modern multi-adjustable ramp types usually seen. This is the other one that appears to be the same design. Top deck overhangs the unit, for an extra car. 4 upper, 3 middle, 2 lower - as long as you have a flat top unit. Vantman and MJK 24

They’ve then removed a deck and chopped it down at the front to enable it to go into Europe. It will have probably been owned by Lantern Recovery or On-Time who do that sort of work. Aye, on that one, but doesn't look to be the case on the white one which only has 2 decks - or does the lower deck lift to squeeze No 9 under it at the back? sutty2006
I used to hate working on car transporter trailers. Real nightmare. We had a brand new workshop set up locally dedicated to those, good money too. Fuck that, I’ll stick to working on three pointed stars 🤣

A few years back the tractor unit of a transporter with a very similar set up caught fire in Forestmill. Not only did that set fire to the Nissan Note above the cab it also burned through the straps which brought it crashing to the ground in flames. A good start to the day for someone, anyway. I ran the 3 x uprights version for AIC in the early 2000's on a 340 MAN. There was a section of the top front deck could fold back and because of the 3rd upright, at the back of the 5th wheel where the chassis drops, there was a single deck at the top above the 5th wheel. You could put a 4x4 on it, another two on the top deck and two on the bottom for a load of five 4x4. We ran a lot of older 4x4 from Scotland down to Brightwells at Leominster back then. scruff, Vantman and warch
quicksilver
Always great to see a Foden Alpha and I got two recently. Anyone spot what's odd about the second one? This was the first T cab Scania I saw on the road back in 2020. Great to see it still going (and much cleaner this time). An old Iveco recovery truck still going and not in need of recovery itself And the big question: what on earth was this Perth & Kinross Council dustcart doing 400 miles south in England?! martc
Liverpool's Overhead Railway and the Georges Dock Ventilation Building for ventilating the Mersey Tunnel. Any idea what the wagon is? - the semi-oval at the top of the grille makes me think it's an Albion. Dyslexic Viking and scruff 1

I can’t make it out clearly but there could be ERF running diagonally up wards on the left half of the radiator above the number plate?

I don't think it's an Albion or ERF as Albions always had 'rising sun' badges and ERF badges never had model names. I am guessing at a Maudslay? martc
This is just a fantastic painting. I think the lorry is an Alfa Romeo. The radiator looks Leyland to me but I can't find any Hippos with the straight lower edge to the screens except for the much bulkier military versions. Perhaps it was one of the lesser known bodywork types on a Hippo chassis. I think your guess is most likely. My first guess was a Scammell R8 but the cab, radiator and windscreen(s) proportions don't quite match the photo. Maudslay was a good call - I had completely forgotten about them! High Jetter
Square screens make sense, as cheeper, but surely bespoke glass cost more? Shaped screens seem the norm though?
