Having rattled 250 miles onto this so far, I reckon this is whit is needed..

 

Brakes/tyres

Fit last wheel cyl and bleed the system

Matched set of 175/70/13 wouldnt go amiss

 

Engine

Oil and filter change

Air filter change

Spark plug change

rotor arm and dizzy cap change

Timing belt plus aux belts change

Rocker cover gasket change

Rev counter sensor fix

Temp gauge sensor fix

 

Suspension

Front dampers change

Rear dampers change

 

Bodywork

A bloody good clean

Sort damage to drivers rear door

Sort driver and passenger mirrors

Clean and rust treat underneath

 

Interior

Sort passenger door rattle

drivers door speaker and cover need replaced and fitted

fit radio

 

Its all fairly basic stuff, and beyond the service and brake work, none of it is pressing

Belated Congrats on the Mot pass and the road trip. That work to do list isn't bad at all. Certainly needs alot less than my same age Cavalier has had!

 

 

Cheers- Yeah its nice to have a car that is basically sound and just needs some titivation rather than indepth work!

 

Once the essentials are done you will rattle through the rest nae probs neebs. Good to see this car resurrected.

And another thing it needs: driven.

 

Another sound brief that wasn't exactly common in its day but bloody worthy nevertheless, get the essentials done and some miles on the clock.

 

As for tyres, I can't see myself using the 15" Corsa steels with 185/55r15 Maragoni winter tyres any time soon, so if you fancy a loan of them, give us a shout.

Having put 300 on it by close of play tomorrow I dont think she'll be lacking in the miles;)

Next up was the joy of sparkenplugen.

 

I'm unsure whether they'd ever been done on the car, So I took the precaution of getting the block nice and hot, then squirted some penetrating fluid onto each plug in turn.

 

Luckily they all came out easily and looked in fair condition.

 

I've got part numbers and costs for the dizzy cap and rotor arm so will have to check their condition presently

Last but not least it was oil change time..

 

First up was a mercy dash to Hellfrauds, as I couldnt find the filter I'd previously bought.

 

There was a fair amount of oil on the sump but it seems to be coming from the rocker cover.

 

Once the oil was drained, I tentatively turned the oil filter to get it off-taking it easy and it finally moved - it had certainly seen better days!

 

once everything was back together I topped up the oil and went to check the level.

 

the Dipstick and the top part of the tube came away in my hand:( It looks like the orange plastic is brittle and has failed.

 

Looks like I can get a replacement from ebay- the temporary* repair involved the foam cover from a scraper handle and some cable ties:)

In an uncharacteristic splurge of cashola, I appear to have procured new door mirror glass, a new dipstick tube top and a new gear stick gaiter.

 

hopefully they will arrive this week and I can get them on the car PDQ.

 

I'll also need to give some consideration as to how I go about coating the underside to avoid rust issues.

Get yourself some Cans of Tetrosyl, it's proper stuff and goes on nice.

 

Before you do though, get the 2 pack of Dinitrol from eBay for about 25 quid. It comes with a metre long bendy lance which is shit hot for getting into all box sections.

 

Well worth the effort, it preserved the Corsa through many winters.
