Is it for sale? Or just a showpiece??

I assume it's a showpiece.

Although everything is for sale if the price is right. :-)

Would the carb be the same as a D reg 1.6? I may know of one. Bodily ruined but it ran ok 20 years ago. Carb probably still basically ok

D reg is the E-Max, horrendous Pierburg garbage that makes the VV look like a really good idea.

VV's are okay is set up properly. Most aren't.

Bung up a list of all the parts you are looking for on the base, I'm sure if everyone looks things will turn up. Also how much you roughly can spend.

I know the drivers door is bent but is the frame solid? Should someone find an a skin panel.

Also any know differences to ID the right parts.

There are quite a few Ford spares places around Essex/East London. In fact tomorrow I am heading to Brentwood and there is a good yard not so far from there, I'll pop in and see if there is anything in early Sierra flavour. If there are two perfect offside doors in Cardinal red which they are willing to offload for a fiver, I'll pick them up!!

Thanks for all the help so far.

The differences are really subtle; even now I see something and think "YESSSSS!!1!" only to realise they're for a MK2.  Like the rear quarter panel that came all the way from Germany, only to be the wrong piece.

I NEED: Two driver's side doors - a rear bumper

I WOULD LIKE: A rear quarter (the guy will charge me not a lot more to do this at the same time as the doors see?!)

A MIRACLE WOULD BE: Some base spec door cards.  These won't ever turn up, but you never know.

Rear quarter on the drivers side?

I recall the passenger side had a dodgy fitting window so just wanted to double check. I remember Angry Dicky doing a fair bit of repair on the drivers side so just wanted to verify.

Not that I have the inside track on any of this stuff!

You will have to forgive me, I am still not sure of the nuances of mk1 and mk2 panels. Is this one correct? It is listed as a mark 1 but I know that doesn't necessarily make it so:

In fact there might be one or two useful things here. Base model headlight for example

The panel/paint man was very complimentary of the Richard's work.  But - it's a straight choice between him spending a couple of hours smoothing the existing arch repair into the panel so it's the same as the new panel on the other side, or simply banging on a new quarter and spraying it up.  Both will cost me the same (he's shit at keeping tally so just gave me a bargain price).

He has said that he will knock the dent out of the drivers door, weld in new metal, and generally fuck about with it - but, at the same cost as new/better panels, it's foolish not to investigate.

Ha! Just looked up "Ford Sierra rear three quarter" and look at the third image!

My pleasure. I do enjoy a good trawl.

Leboncoin and eBay Spain next!

I did have a lot lined up with a guy near Blackpool - but he wasn't flexible AT ALL on times.  By that, I mean he wouldn't hang around for 30 minutes on about 10 different dates I gave him so I could line his palm with £200.  So fuck him.

In all seriousness, by the time I've done over 4 hours to NORTH and back - I'd rather take a bit longer and go to somewhere with a warmer climate and less tin worm.

Ok I got a few photos of this tonight, it's a basically new 28/30 DFTH, would it be any use?

I bought it under the impression that it was a DFT to fit early XR2 but those have bigger venturis.

Shit like that is why fuel injection was invented! Vacuum operated second choke? Stick with the VV. You want a proper 32/36 Weber from a 2000 Pinto, jetted down.

Back in the day I was told* by Autocar or some such that Ford didn’t bother enlarging the windows on the estates, so an estate Mk2 was basically the same from the bulkhead backwards. I wouldn’t rely on this information when buying bits from Ebay/a breaker miles away but it’s worth seeing if true from a Sierra expert. Might help the search for a drivers door as there are many more Mk2s about.

I have to say I’d probably be paying the £50 for that blue Mk1 door if it is rust free and basically next door to you - no postage/delivery faff and you can see it with your own eyes before handing the cash over.

It’s got to be easier for your body man for him to prep and paint that blue door than stripping the existing dented skin from its frame and then sorting out all the dents, then welding it all back together again.

Just a thought.

Edit: just noticed the rust in the corner so maybe not as good value as I originally thought, might be worth a cheeky offer of £40 - on the other hand, he probably knows how rare these are!

That was the Cortina. The Mark 5 saloons had taller side windows, but the Estates were left as per Mark 4.

^^^ Also the Mk2 Escort estate, which was just the Mk1 again with Mk2 panels from the dash forward.

I'd never heard that about the Sierra estate, but tbh it wouldn't surprise me, given Ford's previous form.

I've been going cross-eyed looking at Sierra estate doors in brochures when I should be going to bed!

It looks to me like the front doors on the estates did change in the same way as the hatchbacks, with the windows becoming slightly larger and with less rounded corners.

See also, mk1 and 2 Granada estates. Exactly the same car more or less except for the front end.
