So yes. Not classic Autoshite, but at least it’s not an invalid carriage. And for further jeopardy - I am trying to pass off a Toyota Corolla as a Christmas Present to someone who drives a 5 year old Fiat 500.

I’ve known the car for about 3 years now. The garage who look after my Toyotas bought it from the old giffer who had it from new. He used them for servicing etc and when he gave up driving, they bought it. It had a brief run on the courtesy fleet before being relegated to use by one of the owners and as a runabout when collecting cars for service.

It’s 2 previous owners, 70k on the clock with full 12 months MOT.

Local car for local people.

Pez.

What an arse. The facelift only made the nose slightly more agreeable, but I think the bottom remained the same. They are hideous in 5 door flavour, which is why I love it.

Wont be coming here very often though because

That was a nice 70 mph run. The VVTi dividend.

I’m genuinely unsure how it will be received. I guess there are a few possible outcomes...

* We keep it for a bit and then sell once the novelty has worn off.

* There’s an instant Roffle

* We sell the Fiat 500 and open Bornite’s Retirement Home for Unloved Millennial Toyotas (1996-2000 inclusive)

I’ll let you know. I was going to get one of those massive bows to go on the bonnet for shits and giggles, but I’ve decided it’ll be funnier to put a really small one on the front grille.

I think a 20 year old Toyota IS classic autoshite,  to my mind at least. Because (to my mind at least ) the definition constantly evolves.

In the 1960s I’m sure many thought pre war cars were ”autoshite”/your not parking that on our drive etc. And (to my mind at least) a present to be received with joy. Lean burn good tidings to the Mrs.

I always thought the rear quarter view of these resembled what an ADO16 might look like if the line had continued through 37 facelifts like the Golf or 911.

But it might just be me.

Happy Christmas Dan, hope your baubles are still on the tree.

Not just you.  I've mentioned it before.

Not sure I recall ever seeing that front end with that back end before.

Not suggesting it's a cut and shut, just never noticed.

I guess that's a corolla for you.

These were automotive wallpaper when new, therefore 100% autoshite. I always thought they were the 1990s answer to the Marina coop, certainly they seemed to only sell them to people with a free buspass. Your missus looks overwhelmed, did she swoon in your arms and require resusitation?

All is well!

I can’t believe how well it drives. It’s the best thing on the fleet - tighter than a drum. The seller had four falken tyres put on it, a service and a fresh ticket before I collected it.

The boss is well chuffed with it. I reckon we’ll both use it quite a bit!

Looking forward to getting to know it better!
