1993 500 SEC V8 land yacht - it's vaguely for sale/swap (too big), but using it now.

As in, getting it to look like this involves trying to open the rear window while also trying to prevent the B-pillar seal on the window from catching the worn weatherstrip and getting pulled out of the clips, currently. Which is very fiddly. And then you get the seal back in place, and then forget 'cause you're opening the window with the door closed, and make a complete mess of it anyway.

This has been possibly the second most irritating thing wrong with the car apart from the random right indicator flash when the lights are on (which would be less of an issue if I weren't someone who habitually wants the lights on when driving dark cars, because British drivers are blind).

Yeay! Finally! Can fit this soon and finally open all the windows without pulling bits of trim off like a safari park monkey.

Had work to do and couldn't find Volvo keys, so it carried 24 broken computers home.

The boot is big.

And the thirst, tolerable.

(Cruise on, not going downhill).

Nope.

Got to sell one of the 'toys' first and even then, it wouldn't be easy to get it passed by higher management.

Anyone want a freshly unbent, fully loaded C5 tourer or a slightly shonky 3.2 SLK with interesting paintwork? Don't all rush at once...

Higher management says NO

You know fine well that if that 320 SLK were on the cards, we'd have a deal faster than Theresa May can U-turn in a field of wheat ;)

Window scraper now replaced and rear window B-pillar seal reattached, albeit needing a spot of heat/sealant at the top I think. Or maybe that was someone else's past bodge. Can now open all of the windows easily.

It needs either someone who cares less, or with more skill/better resources, to maintain and restore it. I'll consider PXs, swaps, anything as long as the values are in line and I can fit it somewhere on the farm which isn't being encroached upon by builders/changes to the grounds; if it is so dull/modern that I don't care if it's under cover that's a bonus as I suspect when the houses are finished, I'll lose the barns opposite.

Phwooorrr... such a heartwarming array of RISC OS computers. I have a few of these in my Museum of Obsolescence.

There's an A540 in there... battery damage of course, but I have a friend who can probably sort it.

Usual things that'll make me like a car:

A bit weird.

Estate, cabriolet or coupé (but I could be persuaded on saloon I think, if the car really grabbed me).

Automatic.

Petrol and easy to maintain (or diesel and free of horrible things like DPF/DMF).

Not PSA.

Definitely not post-Passat B3 VAG.

Things I am actively curious about having:

Actually this broke my brain. Some classics, 4x4 things, pickup (would be useful). Possibly tiny things.

Any chance you could throw me a P.M about this ?

Just one question, is she a reliable beast, as i'd have to do mùcho miles for work ?

Thanks

Hmm. With maintenance, yes, should be. 126K on the clock, starts well hot or cold, I'd drive it anywhere, but it does need some bits of work before being thrown into daily service - the random indicator flash, and the brake pipes need doing (MoT guy said "not hard" and they look straightforward, but not for me at home). I don't have the money to spend or specialists I trust to get the work done and it's too big for me to DIY it. I'd get the gearbox fluid and filters changed before doing big miles. I'm getting the A/C regassed probably next week now as I don't think I have time this week.

I mean, it has glitches, but I don't walk out to it wondering if I'm going to get where I'm going.

She's a beauty !

Sadly not got the £££ to buy this fine steed, as i've not sold the Volvo yet (thankfully).

Good luck with the sale sir !

I have chatted to Richard about this car - was allover it until I found out insurance was bloody ridiculous for it (for me, being a Y00F). So to clarify to any potential suitors, I'm out.

So I'll carry on rolling up £50 notes and burning them to keep my XJ happy, instead.

Yeah, it's weird - it costs me less to insure (on normal, Business and SDP, no limits anywhere policy with DL) than the C5, a Saab 9-3 1.8t ragtop, the RX8 or a 1.6 Picasso...

But then my fully comp, business use etc. SLK is under £200/year.

My Accord is £400 per year.

Jag is £700 ish.

If I wanted to insure a 1.4 Polo, it would set me back £900.

Even more bizarrely, if I wanted to buy myself an XJR with a V12 and a supercharger, it would be the same as my current Jag for insurance.

So, has your son or daughter has just passed their test? Buy them a V8 Jag or a VTEC Honda. WCPGW?
