Fuel shortage in France

I filled a car on the top of the Stelivo pass from a 5l green plastic can. I can't remember if the pressure had crushed or expanded the can, but I shit myself regardless when I found it!

It'll have expanded.

Just spoke to FathaN, apparently petrol is easier to get than diesel, at least where he is. He's coming back here next week and is threatening to put his Disco on his big Ifor Williams farm trailer and pull it with his Series 1. His logic is that the Disco has got a roof tent on it , effectively making it the worlds heaviest trailer tent, God help anybody stuck behind him on hills.

Dunno about in the North....demand is higher but the stations maybe get resupplied faster?

Anyway, down here its getting bad, even the local station for local people has now run out. Thats it...."When will you get more in?"  - "No idea."

Next nearest place has also run out, so its a 45 minute drive to a big town with no idea if they will have any. Typically, all these interactive maps I have seen are a load of pish with loads of places not marked at all.

Petrol supplies tend to last slightly longer than diesel because its a much less popular fuel, but even that seems to be running out.

If I were coming over from UK, I would get a couple of 20 litre drums in Dover and hide them well under luggage. If you are caught with that on the ferries and especially the tunnel they will be most displeased.

you can check the local situation on these maps:

There is also an app.

Well informed circles report that fueling up R20 and Tagora is of national interest  and has no restrictions. Local authorities have orders to escort you to the next fuel station and make sure you are immediatly served. Police will also assist your "séance photo pompe carburant".

If you think about it, anyone with a Tesla will be totally unaffected by the whole circus.

No need for a fracas with the peasants over the last drop of petrol at the pump, just plug it in when you get home and watch the mayhem erupt on telly. :)

Nope.... no luck for the Teslas either:

Here in my bit of Normandie fuel is getting scarcer. No diesel in my local village, surrounding towns you can only get 20 euros worth at a time.

Self service pumps are shut down at night so you can't sneek out at midnight and fill up :(

Loads of Brits coming over this weekend so I've got loads more work on and fuck all diesel in the van.

Might have to drain the red out of the tractor......

My Father in law has driven to France, in an X5, does about 20-22mpg at a guess so I don't know how he'll go on with getting fuel as can't see 30 Euros worth of diesel lasting long, frustrating point I guess is you cannot take any Diesel on the ferry in a Jerry can.

Well strictly they only go on strike on a Friday when the weather's nice, or after lunch on Wednesday , because it's Thursday tomorrow and well, it'll be a shame to spoil the weekend by working.

The French do know how to strike though- it's obviously timed very well.

Some of th proposed changes to working law are quite draconian though- increase in hours without consultation, ability to reduce pay if necessary. Etc.,

Couldn't go last week because of 'sudden' work duties, I couldn't go this week because of fear of lack of fuel. I've said to my mate I'd take her over three times now and I'm starting to run out of believable delivery of excuses. Postponed to next weekend.

Flippin Nora, I was kicking off at work cos I wanted to go to France next week and couldnt get the time off!!! Good job they turned me down or I might be having a week spent sat at home like a twat.

I'll go one better; I just resigned from my job at a Nissan dealer to go to France this week.  And now this.  Still, Up the Workers, good for them.

Hmm, it's a way off yet but 16th July I'll be bimbling through France in my p38 that does about 14mpg, hope things are ok by then

We're doing the same - mid July, only 1200 miles in France @35mpg...
