ABI guidelines says equivalent LOCALLY, so if needs be go to the ombudsman. So if it's miles away it's sod all use unless they are paying travel/day off/transportation on top.

Cheeky bastards

A client of mine is in the niche market of medical assistance and repatriation in the travel insurance industry. He rather usefully told me who to use and who absolutely to avoid under any circumstances. (Here's looking at you Insure & Go)

One of the things he told me was that the Insurance Ombusmans default position is on the side of the consumer and that most insurance companies will fold at the first mention.

The whole situation is just getting me down, it's only by luck that i have savings to be able to buy another car or else I'll be into my 3rd week without a car.

The whole justice and insurance system has just got me pissed off, you spend all this money making sure your legal and safe just for the owner to be penalised when they are victim of this crime.

They always chance a lowball offer, tell them to ram it, they'll come up with something better if you are not a pushover.

Aye, i probably shouldn't have been so shocked to be fair, it was just the way she made it sound like she was looking after me by offering this low ball offer. I did laugh somewhat, I'll wait to see what their counter offer will be before i get all Michael Douglas on them.

My ex was getting the run around from her insurance company regarding getting a sensible payout for her fiesta when she crashed it. I spoke to a friend of mine who is a senior claims handler for a large insurance company.

He advised that if they kept mucking around then to ask them for the details of the financial ombudsmen which is their regulator to register a complaint. When you do this the ombudsmen open a case against the insurance company and even if they dont find in your favour the insurance company is liable for the cost of the case review which is £500.

We used this bargaining chip with great success as a soon as i told the insurance company i'd be giving the ombudsmen a call, they suddenly became a lot more complient and upped their offer by £400

Good luck with getting your payout, it'll come good in the end!

Won't the ombudsman only get involved once the insurance company issues you with final response or something?

Anyway, I hope you get this sorted out and are allowed to move on.

Re you wanting to move, sometimes it's better the devil you know. That's what we thought when the 3rd drug dealer moved into our estate. They are actually quiet and the first you know of any shit going down is when they get shot on their doorstep.

My sympathies re: the justice system Trig, they fucked me over too when I was mugged going on two years ago.

Feu Orange might have been someone on RR?

From all I've heard of insurers you should definitely hold out and keep at it.

Hope you get a satisfactory conclusion.

Well I've just got of the phone after an interesting chat with my insurance, after a bit of haggling we've agreed on £850. Bearing in mind my £150 excess comes out of this that would leave me with £700 which is what i would have taken if i sold it on here.

I would have liked a little more but i feel that's probably the best I'll get without a real long dragged fight and i've had a proper gut full of this whole situation now.

I hate insurance companies with a deep deep passion.  And I'm sorry you lost your really cool ride Trigger :(

Hopefully something lovely will be on the horizon for you sir.

Is that what they have explicitly said?

I know when I made a theft claim with Axa, the claim was NOT subject to excess. That appears to be the case with Aviva too. Check the small print as some types of claim are not subject to excess.

I asked the girl if my £150 excess will come off that price and she said yes.

Tell them the excess doesn't come off otherwise it's ombudsman time.

It's a bit of a misconception that drug dealers exclusively live in dingy flats, a bit higher up in the chain they might well live in a respectable area, the only difference being you'd have no idea what they were up to.

That's exactly right. We live in a modern family estate, Quashquais on the drive and that sort of shite and it's the little cues that give it away. Except the big fack off 4x4, unexplained wealth etc 😂
