KruJoe
Footman James all the way. The seem to cost consistently less than a third of any other provider for me. They'll allow one modern on a multi-car policy too, and are not afraid of Jap imports. That said, this year, their underwriters (Ageas) have changed the rules, so now "not any old car can go on a classic policy, just because it is 20 years old." The 20-y-o ZX fell foul of this. garbaldy
This is perfectly timed as I've just added the Sierra to my Colt policy which is due renewal in April,The Colt is £103The Sierra will be £108To have them both insured on the same policy £209 as my renewal invitation has just come though,That's not the saving I was expecting from reading all the classic car insurance quotes on here though,I was also going to add the landy but if that turns out to be another £100 odd its not worth having block InsuranceMine is with RH insurance
Skizzer
Footman James all the way. The seem to cost consistently less than a third of any other provider for me. It cost the princely sum of £16 (for 11 and a half months) to add the Vauxhall to the Footman James policy that my XJ-S was on. Some of mine are on an RH Specialist policy but they'll be moving over when they come up for renewal.
dollywobbler
Peter James x2. Don't forget, either James will allow you to put classics and a modern on one policy, and you get the same benefits (ie breakdown cover) across the entire fleet. That's odd. They never questioned adding the '92 Mazda 323 or '86 Nissan Cherry to mine this month, neither of which most folks would exactly describe as classics. I've had nothing but a positive experience being insured with Footman James. The price is very good. Last renewal was about £500 for 8 cars fully comp with breakdown cover etc. I've never had problem insuring imports or oddball stuff with them either. Spottedlaurel
Timely thread. My four 'classics' are insured with RH and the bill will be over £500, assuming they work the same way as they have done previously come renewal time in May. And I know each time I add another car it'll be a further £100+. Might have to try FJ this time.
mercrocker
I was with FJ but they took the piss with a renewal one year - some kind of "admin fee". I immediately switched to Peter James and am very happy. £98 for 2 x Morrises with commuting cover, unlimited mileage, Mrs R additional named driver, Euro cover (should I ever need it). Very pleasant people, no fuss, no spammage of any kind. I had a third Morris on cover on the same policy for one year at no extra charge, too. Recommend. theorganist
I found it was cheaper to have the Talbot and Peugeot on separate policies with Adrian Flux than I could get a combined policy with Peter James or Footman James. I was with Peter James at the time of renewal and they seemed especially uninterested in discussing it. Footman James whom I had been with previously, their quote was quite high (I forget the figures now) but I nearly fell off my chair, yet in the past they were always the most competitive I found. Lancaster were close to AF but priced the Peugeot quite high. I have the Renault with AF so now have three policies! I will attempt to combine them all at renewal time in November and will shop around again but I have to say AF seemed the most friendly and interested. The guy I spoke to Brother had a Talbot Alpine so I think that helped!

None of mine are insured as garaged, and all are unlimited mileage. Perhaps it's because I usually have so many cars. Are you a club member? That usually unlocks some bonuses. Ratdat
Hardly any of mine are listed as actually garaged but they are in in my yard which is lockable at night. One car, my MX5 is declared as modified and is the newest car I have on the policy (1992) so no modern as such. I do have a 10k mile limit but for me that's not an issue. word is you can increase it if you want. I have 90 days European cover in any one trip but no limit to the number of trips I can take in a year and of course European breakdown is included. Three people, myself, Mrs Ratdat and another mate of mine, are on the policy. All in all it's a top policy in my book and I can't imagine I could insure this number of cars as cheap elsewhere. I am puzzled as to why other folks are not getting as decent value from FJ. Maybe it's because I have quite a few cars and they know I will probably amend the policy a couple of times a year so they're going to get some extra dough in admin fees? I probably live in a low risk area too which may also help keep the costs down. I dunno?

omegod
Am I understanding this, I can insure my 306 daily as well as the scirocco for a reasonable sum? Ratdat
I think with FJ you needed to have at least 3 cars for a multicar policy. One could be modern.
Alan_Green
What's all this about 20 years? Both Footman James and Peter James websites only accept vehicles over 30 years old. Maybe it's a different story when you phone up.
Ratdat
I don't know but of the 10 I have insured on my FJ policy, I have one 1989 car and two 1992 and they didn't question it. I've had a 2002 car on their before as well but then they do allow you to have one modern car on it. Phone is probably the best bet.
New POD
I will be phoning around for the mx5 on Monday.Performance Direct quoted the renewal at £133 PLUS £40 admin fee. A comparison website has Chris Knott at £133. I'm wanting it below £120 after telling them of the modifications
meshking
I've got two cars on a multi car policy from Peter James, think it's around 300 for the 2cv and the lotus. The lotus is 1996, and just went onto that policy this year because it has just become 20 years old. Sent from my SGP621 using Tapatalk

Maybe it's a different story when you phone up.Just phoned FJames. For their multi-car policy you need >3 cars, the majority of which must be classics. Explained I had one definite modern (2011) and one definite classic (1982). I then asked if the 3rd car had to be 30 yrs old. The answer was "no". It depends on the car but, for example, a 20 yr old Volvo or a 15 yr old Beetle is fine. So too is a 5 yr old jag for some reason. Right, who's got a '96 Volvo or '01 Beetle for sale? mitsisigma01
Do they take the age of the car from when manufacturered or first registered ? Also who call whether a car is classic or not , one of my brokers has given at least two answers to the same question whilst wriggling to justify not insuring them

Captain Furious
Another satisfied (for now) FJ customer here, I have one car that is fairly unarguably a classic and one that is a bit more borderline but over 20 years old but both premiums on their own are decent. I'm a bit dubious of multi-car policies though, my experience with admiral multicar on modernz is that it isn't much cheaper (if at all) than two separate policies, but what it does do is inextricably link all your cars together, so that if you want to change one or move one to a different insurer, it can affect the premium for all the others too because there is now more/less cars so more/less multicar discount. Maybe FJ discounts for MC are more generous.
JohnK
Just renewed with FJ today with 3 vehicles on the policy for £112.
