shite_meister
I took the company Xsara to a Citroen specialist today and whilst I was waiting I started reading a big book on Citroen XMs and as I know them at the garage quite well he gave me the book-I'm well chuffed as its a really good book if your into that sort of thing.Makes me want an XM now-badly! there was a 2.0 petrol floating about Jersey for sale for £250 although I'd love a V6 with black leather even though my head says Non! to French V6s. Working in the motor trade I really should know better than to like some of the cars I do.Not remotely interesting but I was chuffed.
Guest
I cant remember the last time I saw a mobile XM, theres one parked up literally pissing distance away from me but I dont doubt that it hasnt moved in at least 2 years. Is there any major Achilees' heel on these things or just general complexity/depreciation that kills them?
dollywobbler
Hydraulics, electrics and above all, neglect kills 'em.Autoboxes can go, V6s can be nightmarish, turbo diesels are excellent - but can blow head gaskets.
shite_meister
Suppose it depends which engine? I hope somebody can enlighten us, mouseflakes has one ibuleve. Think people shit themselves/baulk at the thought of the suspension. Citroen's hydro-pnuematic suspension is one of the very few automotive things I don't belive I've ever had the chance to experience first hand Where is this one you speak of? its not the silver one next to St Brelade fire station is it? the one i'm talking about is the green one-had some minor paint damage at rear but looked alright.Man I need an XM
shite_meister
So the 2.0 petrol would be a good choice? Jesus I used to only be into anything RWD with a minimum of 6 pref 8 cylinders now I'm lusting after Citroen XMs and got my beady eye on a Peugeot 405TDi Estate and love my old Honda Accord more than my M3
dollywobbler
I think the two-litres are ok. Dusty Springfield had one (see somewhere else on here...) and she was a woman of taste (I've just had a horrible realisation that this could head rapidly downhill...) Only a lesbian would have a 2.0......Ah... carry on.
shite_meister
The book is very corporate-must have been commisioned by Citroen when new.i know afew XM's around here sadly most in breakers inc a RHD BreakIt would easier to buy shite from France due to the close proximity although mon Francais n'est pas bon. mirafioriman
I worked for a Citroen dealer when the XM was new and I think I have the same book. I think they were given away as a promotional offer to customers. It is a nice book. As for the cars I like them too. Nearly bought one once.... The suspension is really fairly simple. Yes it can go wrong but is usually an easy if fiddly fix.
j-j
I want the book! There are quite a lot of the V6s going still - they are well kept nowadays. as said the TD is the fave - the 2.1 specifically liked. Of course the shite choice is the 2.0i - it's the one I'd have (on LPG gas of course) but they made a fully loaded spec of the small engine called the 2.0 SEi - my personal fave Think people shit themselves/baulk at the thought of the suspension.- it's never justified! it's aerospace - grade hydraulics! And from Xms and Xantias onwards, all the piping was plastic coated for corrosion protection.
