ISO Wiring (not Grifo, Rivolta)

Got one of those 10 quid Chinese USB radios.  It came with no ISO loom so I bought one seperately.

Following the colour coding stated on the back of the radio I connected yellow to 12V DC, black to earth and got a spark at the battery terminal (this is just straight to battery at moment) but no function or display on the radio.  No lights, nuffink.

There is mention of 12V memory wire (red) which it is suggesting has to be 12V feed as well.

Anyone guess what I might be doing wrong.  Or is the radio likely just borken?

Yellow and red usually both need to be powered before anything happens. Yellow is switched and Red is permanant, except when it isn't because the car manufacturer ignored the standard and did their own thing with those wires the other way round. (VAG and Vauxhall...)

Anyway, connecting them both to permanant power should work, but it won't switch on with the ignition. Get them the wrong way around and it will work but lose its memory every time you stop.
