To do list on BAL is...

Fit best parts from AVO including drivers seat

On the longer list of things I would like to do...

Wide band sensor

Play with Ardiuno as engine management tool

Can’t wait for next years advisories...

Drivers seat too clean

Excessive amount of ECUs

What do you do when waiting for a load of tyres to be collected? Well fiddle with your other car.

First off the right rear light is faded on BAL. I kept the one from AVO so simple job of swapping them over

Much better. Both the seals are shot so may see if I can order new ones

Then onto wing mirrors. The ones on the car mean that you can't really see anything behind you. e20009c40a990a3cd672ca6c8e60394c.jpg

Some screws out

And jobs a good un

At that point I was a bit too cold to continue.

Next plans are to swap over the door cards and seats once the snow has melted.

The onto the exhaust. New studs and bolts been ordered for the manifold.

Looking at options for the advisories - a full set of all the bushes I need in poly is about £100 so may go down that route to start with.

Insurance has been cancelled on the car within the two weeks meaning that it cost £25 for 10 days cover. Bargainous

Looks like it was done before.

The head was really well wrapped so I can't see it had happened in transit.

It's been assembled well with engine prep grease all on the cam. New head bolts, gaskets, cam gaskets and timing belt then with professional help it should all go together.

Anyone want to guess what an mx5 sans engine gets over the weighbridge?

I'd just rip that immobiliser out & throw it over the hedge.

It'll have about six wires going back to the car's loom. Two for the fuel pump, two for the starter & two (or more) for the indicators. The rest should be to the siren, power etc. Just trace them back & reconnect the matching colour wires for the fuel pump & starter. The others will probably just be bridged on (in a scotchlock kinda way but solder I'd hope) so just need taking off.

A properly done install will mean you need to add some wire to bridge the gap, as the install instructions say to cut a piece out of the fuel pump & starter wiring so it can't just be bypassed by joining them. But I've never seen a car or bike where that's actually been done.

Anyone want to guess what an mx5 sans engine and half the shell missing due to rot gets over the weighbridge?

Asked if it's on there because the scales can't see it.

£25.

The real question is "was AVO slower over the weighbridge with no engine/box/running gear than you in an auto mx5"?

There wasn’t much in it to be fair...

Moog, try tinker brook at ossy/church for MOTs. Reasonable people who aren't unrealistic

Cheers for suggestion - Guys at ATS in town are sound as a pound. Can't be more helpful.

I think that all the advisories are deserved. Just means I need to make it more track!

I have seen talk on the internet about derusting bolts with vinegar.

It's something I have wanted to try but never quite got to it.

Luckily I have a bucket of old mx5 nuts and bolts that could do with a bit of add rust.

Tipped onto cardboard to sort out the plastic and metal bits

Plastic removed

And left with just metal.

White vinegar was procured from Amazon for not many pennies

So into the bucket

Tucked it away and will update on the progress

I've heard it does depend upon the strength of the solution of course - I've never seen an actual start/finish comparison on just vinegar.

I did do the 'waste electrode' method - battery charger - bucket of soda crystal solution with rusty bit on one charger grip - suspended in the solution - other charger grip on the waste electrode which is also submerged in the solution. Worked great for hubs, backplates and other larger bits - I've no idea is it would be good for a load of smaller bits all grouped together though.

Now I'm interested - must go investigate……….

Seems to be working.

Will empty it tomorrow morning and see the results.
