The Moog
A slightly early escape from work meant I headed north with less traffic so covering the ground in just over 2hrs 20. The turbo charged pug is certainly an enjoyable car, nice seats although a clicky CV joint and a touch of suspension knock meant that full bore into corners was refrained from. Met up with Mr J Bell esq and clan. Some dog stroking and tea with pleasant chat was had. Then into the blue/green pug to head home. First thoughts are that it needs a turbo, but once on motorway you really don't notice it. Happily sits at 70mph on motorway even up hills. Headlights are some of the best french lights I have ever had the pleasure of. Speakers objected to some happy hardcore tunes, meaning I was forced to podcast up. I am absolutely over the moon - it's exactly what I wanted. Simple basic but bags of fun. Will probably start some tweaks including sorting juddery brakes and speakers. Would love to sort out a raspberry pi dash install. Now... Need to decide what to do with the Saab estate UltraWomble, spartacus, RobT and 15 others
The Moog
On way back from the lakes I noticed the campervan was chucking out loads of smoke under load, as soon as you lift off it disappears. Checking the oil, it has gone from full to almost empty in less than 400 miles. One of the benefits of buying a van through a dealer is that it comes with a 3 month warranty - so will be dropping it back on saturday for their tame mechanic to have a look at it. I suspect it might be piston rings which may be a decent sized bill for them.

The Moog
News in on the Talbot is that it is knackered or stuck rings. The mechanic that came in to see it suggested Wynn's potion which might help, but the dealer is sceptical. He has offered either A) try the potion, if it doesn't work bring it back and they will do an engine rebuild. Van would likely be off the road for a month money back. As the idea of the van was to go away most weekends over winter and into spring, having it out of action is probably too much. They have got a bigger van for more money which has tickled my fancy so I am going to see if he can do a deal on it. He was fairly no committal over phone as vans are still at a premium. loserone, Coprolalia and Jim Bell

The Moog
Red light at night... Alternators delight! I took advantage of direct line allowing me to stick the wee puglet on a months insurance. It was cheaper than filling the saab with petrol and it has beaded seats. Out in the car this evening and with the fan on high it makes the alternator light glow! That can't be great. The Moog
I can see SOC enjoying it ... @Bucketeer loved it! Have been boring and ordered a normal exhaust. Quick Q for 205 owners - is there a dimmer for the dash lights? I dont seem to have any on and would be surprised if they had all disappeared. On the underside of the steering column if it's a reasonable spec model - base model ones have a blank which effectively just shorts the two pins on the wiring plug together. If that wiring plug is unplugged or wire broken, you'll have no dash lights. From memory, it's a 4 pin brown plug with two green wires on it. And it only glows in the dead dark. It illuminates the Speedo around the 60-70 mph range of the Speedo. The rest of the binnacle bulbs are indeed dead. It's a faff to get out, so folk generally don't. The Moog

The Moog
Having spent the last week with toothache, an emergency dentist visit on Thursday ended with an infected wisdom tooth being yanked out. Friday and sat blurred into counting down to next painkillers time, before it has eased up a little today. Being fed up of stuck indoors I though I would see if I could fix the pug exhaust I ordered a full replacement as it was £55 delivered including fitting kit. It was delivered on WednesdayTo save postage costs it comes in three parts including a sleeve My helpers certainly enjoyed the wrappingThe front bolts were incredibly rusty so that was a battle I didn't want to start. As you can see it has rusted as it goes into the back boxOver a painkiller and a coffee I thought about a plan of attack. I pulled the back box offNext the new backbox was fitted As the exhaust had been shipped with a sleeve it made sense to cut the middle pipe to fit and then sleeve it. Applying the whizzed wheel of death when not 100% well isn't the best thing to do.All clamped up and tentative engine start It was as quiet as an xud can be... So that's a good jobThe wee french bastard rewarded me with a new shiny light luzzed in some antifreeze to make it go away Underneath it needs some love long termNext up is to have a poke at the alternator as I am not convinced it is a happy chappy. Hoping it is just a case of better earth straps. gm, loserone, Dave_Q and 11 others
The Moog
Borrowed the use of Northern Monkeys ramp today to do oil change and replace brakes on saab. Fronts were advisories on previous MOT so thought I had better replace them Discs are past their bestNew discs are coated which look nice Brake jobs are always quite satisfying - I even managed to do all the bolts up tight. The Moog
This morning was the big event. Taking Bucketeers Ax down to Guildford way and swapping it with Northern Monkeys Mx5A car trailer was hired with Saab aero as the tow steed. The trailer hire was £47 for 24 hrs so not too shabby. Tootled over to Leyland to collect the trailer and set off back to Moog Towers for the AX. Halfway back the rear view became somewhat white, I thought at first it was spray from the wheels but that idea disappeared when the car bonged to inform me that it had no coolant. FFS. Fearing hgf I limped to the next junction before pulling up. Once the steam had cleared I had a poke about and found the heater hose has split. It's gone in exactly the same place as my old Saab when drag racing at Crail I called the 5th emergency services -Nothern Monkey Breakdown. He duly arrived with a range rover to aid a Moog in distress. We loaded up the Saab and headed back to Moog Towers. Plans were chucked about to try and keep on keeping on, which in the end resulted in a wee ax strapped on to the trailer. Now headed south in range rover luxury with an AX in the rear view mirror....
