Pete-M
I've just got my grubby mitts on a 99'T' plate Transit van. SWB, 96k miles, 12 months MOT, drives gloriously - MOT tester had to recalibrate his smoke testing thing to 'low emissions' to get a reading from the exhaust.Very clean other than the standard Mk3 Transit crusty front wings and a light smattering of bubbles along the bottoms of the back doors. Factory bulkhead - the one with the window type space in t'middle. New roofrack, lined, cab is immaculate other than a few screw holes in dash where it's had a hands free kit. Even the cupholder works as it should which is somewhat unusual. The electric mirrors still do their thing as well, but I need a rear casing for the passengers one...I've not got any pics yet (need to de-sticker it first), but it appears to be the only Transit I've seen in the last few years with zero dents. So, this is probably aimed towards Fred.... wassitworf?Also... while I'm ere and talking about vans, my ShiteOldEscortVan. The bloody elbow thing at the back of the cylinder head for the heater hose, do they just unbolt? Mine's degraded to the point of no return, and is anyone interested in a '96 P plate Escrot 55D van, MOT'd til July, Taxed til the end of this month, drives fine, £
FredTransit
Mk5 wedge shaped IFS thing? Pinto or DI? No idea. P'raps about £300-400? Sorry mate I lost interest about 1988........
Pete-M
Mk5 wedge shaped IFS thing? Petrol or diesel? No idea. P'raps about £300-400? Sorry mate I lost interest about 1988........ The Transit is a Mk3 smiley thing. The Escort is a Mk5 'oval clock' thing. Diesel, yeah. According to the local parts place it's 'one of the ones with the late engine', whatever that means. Airbag and power steering, I know that much. The tape deck works as well.
FredTransit
Mk3 was 1986-91, Mk4 91-94, Mk5 94-01/2 ish. Well that's if you subscribe to the 'it's got a different shaped side repeater so it's a new Mk', which means we are on Mk 11 by now! Yeah I would say the Mk3 as well And it's a DI unless somebody has done something creative with a Duratorq. The again why would you? Best avoid the microchips and DMF for as long as you can as far as I am concerned. If the injection pump has a round cap on it it's a Bosch and will run on veg oil

Pete-M
Now here is some proper shite..... Looks a bit tidier now though, that was a first pic....There's a steamingly mint one of those near my mates garage, although this one is a LWB twin wheel job. Obviously looked after properly as last time I spotted it it was outside one of those bodyshops where nothing is ever cheap and everything comes out looking perfect. I'll try and get a snap of it if it's still about when I pass there tomorrow.
FredTransit
Hmmm I like a LWB Armoured is good too! But I don't do Mk3 or beyond.
AnthonyG
Round here (rural west wales) if you sorted the rust bubbles and polished it up, you could ask £1250 and get it easily. I've seen real shitters make £5-600 at the local auction - everybody (particularly very tight Welsh tradesmen/farmers) loves a diesel transit. pogweasel
Agreed, here Transits will always make good coin. £1k easy life if it's mechanically sound and not too kippered by rot.
FredTransit
I only paid about £500 all in for the SWB (purchase, MOT and repairs, paint, tax), and the bullion van was a lot less than a grand, the chassis' mint!
dollywobbler
In that case, where is the magic source of cheap vans?! I'll take an swb Mk2 facelift please. Ideally in black (a mate's dad had one of these when I was a nipper, complete with silvered rear windows. It was TEH SEX!)
garycox
Yeah mk3's still make good money. I paid £750 for my current one (N reg), which is in pretty good condition, definitely not the best though.

Actually the LWB panel is in reality a facelift A reg, wearing a cosmetic phase1 grille and early indicators, for a part!

I'd be happy with £800 for it to be honest.
FredTransit
O am stunned at the price of vans outside London. In London they wouldn't fetch £500.

garycox
Won't all the ones in London be worthless soon when that stupid van tax zone thing comes in?
andrew e
Tax for under 3.5 tonnes on ice at the moment.
FredTransit
Tax for under 3.5 tonnes on ice at the moment.Correct, but the number of people who ever heard about it in the first place equals the number of people that have heard it's gone to a consultation again. That's consultation not just outright cancelled.
