Yes, very early one indeed. Build date of 14.1.1993.

There’s some seriously nice stuff in that yard though, lots of XR’s and there’s a Sapphire Cossie buried there too.

It's a real mix bag! XR2s/3's and Cossies that would have been worthless when parked but then run of the mill stuff, there's Mk3 Escort 3 doors, a Mk4 Estate an Orion and a Mazda 323 Estate!

@KWhiteThanks! Haven't had a new one to add in ages. 12th oldest on my list by registration date. So deserves to be saved if it can be.

@egg Out of interest, what’s the earliest registered one in your list? I think I’ve stumbled on something rather interesting and I just wanted to see if you’ve discovered it too…

Earliest registered is K970 FVX an Si registered on 1/2/93, which is obviously pre-launch in March.

Incredibly still around and on SORN.

The earliest one I’ve found is K411 FPU, registered as a Sierra but on Ford Etis is a Mondeo build. Build date 26.10.92, registered 4.12.92.

K411-K418 FPU are all Mondeos registered on 4.12.92. All are 1.8 LX in White and I think were all loaned to the Police for evaluation. I’ve written a list which I’m still finishing.

Here’s K809 FVX being used as a Police demonstrator.

Another SVE! Lovely!

Your comment reminded me to search for SVE chat on this thread - and found that I don't have 329 KVE on my list (Green GLX registered 2/3/93).

I think I have 62 now on my list of K reg cars that still exist. Just in case, here is at least all the numbers so if I'm hit by an Invacar tomorrow it's there for posterity.

should just add...

476 TKL is actually now on J13 JOK

379 KVF is on K18 GLX

NIW 7979 is now on a BMW - so not sure if that one still exists @LightBulbFunwould you be able to find out please?

Also 2 or 3 of the above are being bangered or are donor cars, but shell still exists afaik.

sadly not, but @greengartsidemay be able to get it from Etis if he still has access?

sadly I can only tell you what plates a given vehicle has worn, but I cant tell you what vehicles a given plate has been assigned too

(the only slight exception to this is when a plate is put on retention or hidden behind a private plate, I can tell you the last vehicle it was on, but as NIW7979 has already been put onto to a BMW this trick does not work)

It would be worth recording the VINs of all known surviving cars just to be on the safe side incase anything like this happens again :)

awesome! means I can do this!

looks like its still in NI and so was issued a current NI (County Tyrone/Omagh) plate YHZ5208 when sadly robbed of its original plate NIW7979 (County Londonderry / Coleraine issue)

thankfully the Mondy is still taxed and MOT'ed,  so at least it was not just robbed of its plate and then scrapped as I have sadly seen a few times

@LightBulbFunthanks very much, good to know it is still out there - maybe the only 'k reg' Mondeo in NI? Who knows! Seeing as we still only know of 60 odd nationally, it's not impossible.

I imagine there may be a few, I certainly uncovered a few NI registered ones when I did the K reg Estate bash, so I imagine there would be a fair saloons as well :)

the ever reliable* How many left reports 115 Taxed and 492 SORN'ed for 1993, so  you have not done too badly with the 60 you have found so far given only a sub set of those on How many left would be K prefix

(as a side note, there is one "Mondeo" down as made in 1989 thats still taxed, I wonder what that one actually is LOL, clearly someone entered the wrong model code on the DVLA computer when registering that one LOL)

I wonder if it might be worth doing a FOI request to the DVLA? :) "please tell me how many Ford Mondeo's of all types registered before the 1st of August 1993, (broken down by trim level/model type) are still tax or SORN as of this FOI, separated into separate lists for vehicles that are still taxed, and a separate list for SORNed vehicles"

that way you know exactly what your still looking for, as it will filter out all the L prefix and later cars

I have seen something like this done in my research of the DVLA,  in one of the FOI's I looked at, I found a list of all the lambretta's registered with the DVLA and arranged by body type, year of manufacture and engine size

image.thumb.png.3367a79d097c3b38647d915f3066282f.png

(theres exactly 1 thats registered as a snow plough amusingly LOL)

FOIR6424 Attachment.xlsx

so they can definitely do something like this for Mondeo's I imagine :)
