Remember I painted this NOS grille last year?

Well, now the nice weather is here, time to put it on. But I didn't like the original rusty screws. So I got some new OEM ones from a Ford dealer because I'm not* a rivet counter

Doing this got me going cod-philosophical

One of the reasons I drive older cars is because fighting against the dying of the light, trying to slow down entropy, and because extending objects usefulness beyond their designed lifespan gives me actual pleasure. 99% of the 93-96 Mondeos are bean cans. Only 0.25% are actually taxed and on the road. So all that human energy and world resources have moved on. For me, it's a reason to be alive, particularly as I'm aware I'm beginning to decay myself. So that's why I've been painting and fitting a new grille to my 27 year old Mondeo. And you thought it was just to get me out of the house..

Poetry. Should be a meme on my lounge wall.

ha ha great stuff!

MOT was due 1 June, so now extended until 1 December...

Haha, glad you like it - I was worried it would come across as mickey taking, which it wasn't, I actually think it's a lovely bit of writing. Interestingly when I typed in blue mk1 Mondeo into google this picture was I think the 5th to come up!

A article on the BTCC Mondeo from December 1993, in cars and car conversions magazine. Kindly provided by @Christine

The only other MK1 Mondeo without a sunroof (apart from the base). They amazingly got the weight down to 950kg.

And at an international event at Monza

Brilliant. Thanks for sharing. I really got into BTCC at this time, I think they used to show it on Grandstand on Saturday afternoons.

It may have been 1992 that I first started watching it; IIRC the privateers often had bmw e30s still.

There are two touring car replicas I'm aware of. The blue one (Isis blue) started off as a base...
