BTW @egg I was chassis number bashing from K606PHS, in the hopes to see if I could find K616PHS's number, still researching that

but just now I came across K27USD which is SORN!, :)  perhaps one for your list? although its not had a keeper change or even fresh V5 issued since 2002

interesting! I notice your Ford tool can pull the VIN numbers for Fords even when they have later private marks applied

did ford make sure to note on its own system what each cars original registration mark was?

 

sticking that VIN number back into my tool spits out a Pug 406 of all things LOL

sadly CoD'ed back in 2010 so I cant see what its record looks like on the DVLA's 1st party checker

 

but someones database is clearly all very confused! I think this is likely a 3rd party tool issue as Carbaba and my tool both share the same back end

 

but its interesting how some other K-PHS cars show the same issue, are you able to grab the VINs of K612PHS and K621PHS? It would be interesting to try and feed those back into my tool and see what sort of response i get from those LOL

 

I think the database has been confused by some private plate transfers at some point, not the first time I have seen it happen, but not quite like this! 

but feeding N826XRW back into the tool gets it to spit out a record with the Pug's actual VIN number for example :) 

and I think K616PHS was involved in a private plate at some point hence it not showing up today (since back then they would not re-issue the original plate when you took a private plate off)

 

EDIT: a little bit more sleuthing and database bashing later, and Tada!

I noticed this mark in the bowls of the mixed up 406 record, and indeed looks to be K616PHS! I cant say for 100% certainty, as amusingly the tool produces no result what soever for K307GSF, but its 1996 issue, 1993 Age related mark on a White 1993 Mondeo so im pretty positive it is!

Yes my Ford tool uses the original registration number at dealer sale, so very useful to trace imports from Jersey/Guernsey etc.

K612PHS's VIN comes back as K287RYS which shows no previous plate history and is also odd because K287RYS does not look to be an age related plate from what I can tell?

so I wonder whats gone on there

 

 

K621PHS comes back as K285MOS which has been clearly had a private plate or 2, which is now on an age related plate, curiously also from 1996, and also in the bowls of its record I found, N468WWK which is amusingly a Pug 405, 

 

its both amusing and interesting how both K616PHS and K621PHS have both had their records entangles with 1996 Peugeots!

Remember seeing a 4x4 in a breakers years ago, the floor pan and boot floor were different. It was an odd one, it had the full RS kit on plus some Ford Recaro seats that I’ve never seen since. It was fitted with a meter which meant that I could charge £85 a week for it, a fiver more than I'd usually charge. The last owner had spunked ££££s on a brand new injection pump a few months earlier and it was the fastest and most economical diesel on my fleet.

With regards to taxi/PH usage, the Mk1/2 Mondy wasn't quite the runaway success you'd think it was. The main problem was that it was up against the XUD powered 405/6 and Xantia which both already had a good reputation for longevity and although the Ford 1.8TD worked out a lot more reliable for taxi operators, it wasn't unusual to see civilian models dead at as little as 80000 miles. For taxi drivers desperate to keep it simple, the 405 and Xantia were also offered without a turbo unlike the Mondeo. 

A 405 or Xantia TD would also knock on the door of 50mpg unlike the Mondeo which would just about break the 40mpg barrier. Throw in the fact that the XUD drove better then you can see why Ford lost their stranglehold of the PH market. Even if we rewind back to the days of the Sierra, the 2.3 dizzler was well respected unlike the later 1.8TD. 

The only reason that the Mk1/2 was popular with fleet owners, myself included, was that they were a cheap fix when bought as a Cat C/D salvage.

Ah yes, possibly, The grille section is only two screws so very easy to change, and car looks like other mods have been done i.e. wind deflectors and spoiler.

Just noticed inside windscreen fogging, TADTS....

Well, my Mondeo is still here, and just SORN'd and gone in to storage for December. Probably only a month as I don't want the new tyres to go square and new battery to go flat, but I've barely used it since Rob brought it back from loan, so it can rest until after Xmas.
