Not sure why I'm saying thanks, it's free entertainment* for you all! I own a Mondeo MK1 so you don't have to (any more), right? Although, I'm not very good at making my woes into an amusing story like the late Dave numbers, or into a kind of poetry like @Datsuncog when he's on a roll. But as @BorniteIdentity knows from the bASe - if the sierra had a Twitter account it would be 'therealbASe' with a blue tick mark - there's no real exit strategy from a basic old Ford. When Bornite has a wobble with the red peril, I can only say 'I hear you man'. It's with you for life. They're like living with an elderly maiden aunt, there are some days when it might be better it was just all over, but the old girl is family when all is said and done, and you want her to make it to a grand old age. School starts again for my kid next week, and if I expect this car will be back on duty for the 50 mile round trip up hill and down dale, as the Mazda is a bit in the wars at the mo. Can't really complain, the bloke worked through the rain outside my house to do it. started five minutes after he'd got going on my screen. Sorry you've had so much bother with it mate but it really is a lovely car. Brought an enormous smile to my face when I last saw it and the blue interior is a thing of beauty. egg Posted June 21, 2020 Author Share Posted June 21, 2020 No need to change the plugs by mileage, but is has been 4 years....so went for it. I broke one of the old ones (2nd right in pic below) and had the fearz that a bit might have gone down the cylinder - but running nicely, so went and checked the tyres, popped some E5 in while we still can, and had a cruise along the front (busy down there - lots of queues). Needed the breaker bar to loosen them. Torqued them up with the torque wrench, so should be ok next time. NGK out... Motorcraft in... Have I actually done a 'one spanner' job without any mistakes? sierraman Posted June 25, 2020 Share Posted June 25, 2020 The plugs on those are an absolute doddle, in fact most jobs on those cars are simple, thinking back at the time there was a real apathy towards them as they were feared as being difficult to work on compared with the old CVH Sierras, which to be fair were as sophisticated as a horse and cart. There was the big hu ha that the clutch was an expensive job but given a typical Mondeo clutch lasted twice as long as a Sierra clutch it was unwarranted. I remember my dad having the infamous coolant pipe failing, he declared it a garage job, I’ve done plenty of them they’re a doddle. The radio controls are big and solid so you can easily find Radio 4 and the ashtray will hold enough Wethers Original to sustain a return trip to Weston Super Mare. Very important that. It's amazing how Ford made a car as good as that generation Fiesta (I loved mine), stuck a slightly different body on it and utterly ruined it. It was gutless and dull. Certainly every time we lifted one with the crane and strap at the breaker’s yard I worked in, the screen cracked. It drove the boss crazy! - although how he thought the average banger driver in 1992 would get the screen out is another question.
