jamesC.
There seems to be quite a few abandoned dealers around me. This one is a bit more varied than the fiat one. It used to sell Skodas and I think before that it sold Protons and Ladas. There’s a yard with lots more cars in it that I didn’t get a picture of and inside there’s an mint yellow mk3 escort vanUntitled by James C, on FlickrUntitled by James C, on FlickrUntitled by James C, on Flickr michael t, Lacquer Peel, oldcars and 2 others
Ghosty
One of those dumped cars locally advertising a pikey recovery business has had the tyres pumped up. MOT runs out at the end of March, wonder if that's a coincedence. I bet it gets carted off and renewed.
Datsuncog
Dumped and Council Aware boggo spec 1999 Impreza 1.6 LX, ACZ 2578 - with usual teenage dreamer mods - in the far corner of Tesco Carrick's carpark. Still listed as taxed until June and MOT through to October, surprisingly. I've a feeling that the very last mystery this Scooby Doo's going to be solving is 'Just What Happens Inside The Fragger?'. AnthonyG
There was a 2007 Citroen C4 VTS outside the local One-Stop for a very long time, only after the mirrors got broken off and the tyres lost any remaining air did the council take any notice. I would have thought the shop owner would have complained but maybe it was his or an employees. In my flats there is an 11 plate Mitsubishi Colt 5 dr, hasn’t moved for months and the white paintwork has acquired a tinge of green.... private land so will be there until either the owner fixes it, or (more likely) the landlord of the associated flat gets it scrapped when the next tenant moves in and asks about his allocated parking space.... bramz7
This evening there was a very tidy J plate Cavalier parked on the side of the A4 not too far from where I live. Looked straight, and a notice on the dashboard too, presumably saying why it was there. Should have gone for a closer look but it's a bit nuts to park there! I hope it doesn't get interfered with this evening.
Pillock
There's a 106 on a country road near me. Back window and drivers window put through, flat tyres, mirrors kicked off. It was first there in the snow so I wonder if someone slid it into a kerb or something and just left it there. I did notice it had "police aware" tape on it on Saturday, but that had been nicked by Sunday.
MorrisItalSLX
There is a Mitsubishi Magna dumped on the side of the road near my house (Not the actual car, same colour and spec though) It has some light damage to the rear bumper and the driver's wing, police aware tape tied to the driver's mirror in the usual fashion.I bumped into the local copper in town today and "enquired" with him to see if it could perhaps be saved. He said that the keys were in it but when he tried to start it was clear why it was dumped, "Engines' rooted, mate".Shame, as it is a high spec model with the rare factory alloys (these might* be liberated** before it is hauled away) and all the bells and whistles. JeeExEll
Not so much 'Cars Dumped In Your Area', more a story. The Story Of The Submerged 1300E. Steering wheel missing, walnut veneer missing from it's 6-clock dash. Missing it's airfilter too. What a state! The 1300E, which had been submerged for over 30 years, was dragged out of the murky water and left for nearly a whole week with the doors open for it to dry out. Various parts were found on the seabed near the car, such as the lights and grille, the windscreen, bonnet, the steering wheel and it's walnut veneer dash. Even the original airfilter and battery were found nearby. The front wing was pushed back on and the dented front panel pulled back out with a bit of rope. All of the salvaged parts were then refitted as the car dried out. GrumpiusMaximus, D Spares & Tyres, In The Pit and 8 others
JeeExEll
A week later, and things were looking a little bit better. Drier, at least. Very nasty bit of grot at the rear sill area. Look at that corrosion, it's outrageous. Horrid even. These Escorts really could rust. The interior wasn't too bad, considering it had been underwater for over 30 years. The damp smell took a few weeks to go away. Febreze™ was used on the seats and carpet. Walnut clocks-bit and steering wheel refitted. Alas, both front seats had suffered some damage to the cloth. Nibbled by fish. But never mind. With oil & filters and the original battery refitted, and a tank of fresh petrol (obv !), the 1300GT engine burst into life.Washer-bottle retrieved from the murky depths, filled with clean water. The strut tops were still in remarkable condition. After a new set of tyres, the brakes bled, and a good scrub up, the 1300E passed it's first MOT since 1983. A mere 10 days after being dragged out of the drink. It was then put to use as the owner's daily driver. Over the next few years the 1300E was cleaned up bit by bit, and is now looking fab, still in it's mostly original highly-polished paint. The owner loves driving it, but every time he drives it he can't help smelling something a little bit fishy. It is a beauty tho, isn't it?The end. It seems to have had a long bath in freshwater, rather than saltwater/seawater. I'm thinking that, if it had been the latter, we might not be seeing very much left....
