I've got to the point everything behind the crossmember is cleaned off so I made it blueish.

IMG_20200619_145555053.thumb.jpg.25b6cad839dda08ea69d55c943e61825.jpg

Then I rolled it back a bit to start the fixing of stuff.

IMG_20200619_150511693.thumb.jpg.168f2ae797b36e06c32796c841688ae3.jpg

Repair panels were ordered and delivered.

IMG_20200619_153009732.thumb.jpg.ee2eaa26fe8d9f1cc70205dc04d613e4.jpg

Time to decide what's first. This bit of the rear arch looks complicated enough to repair.

IMG_20200619_150543877.thumb.jpg.57c61126b4138ecfe2ba28e4fa5ea98a.jpg

Quite awkward to get in with the grinder.

End of play today.

Will see how I get on next time.

Started plugging some of the holes. Started by getting this out and putting a 90 bend in some steel.

IMG_20200621_110916612.thumb.jpg.08ad14e5584b736702abc2abd5a43dd3.jpg

Then some card was used.

IMG_20200621_110941554.thumb.jpg.0743c6b8ff9d66e1868bad9f26bb0d86.jpg

Roughly the right size.

IMG_20200621_110949217.thumb.jpg.1c341b2c7b1157677a201cbcfa638480.jpg

Then make the slight curve.

IMG_20200621_111027453.thumb.jpg.e1c8f032b7e1b62fac9fc50d406a8a4c.jpg

Check for fit.

IMG_20200621_111948653.thumb.jpg.4c4804ce0f67ab689c9b67ccf58a7348.jpg

Yep, that will do. Apply some weld through primer.

IMG_20200621_113631508.thumb.jpg.d22e907be533fa9a4a3d55690312ed6c.jpg

Get welding and a bit of a dress back.

IMG_20200621_121013057.thumb.jpg.e045095f4db06fdd5120833fb6664905.jpg

Next bit.

IMG_20200621_123201172.thumb.jpg.9e7423011b2ba650fd5299ccd379e620.jpg

Piece for it.

Check for fit.

IMG_20200621_123219891.thumb.jpg.5ade389d75ffd3a41d33503d1767345a.jpg

Stick it in.

IMG_20200621_125636746.thumb.jpg.0ad703e3ad1c2cf4cd5fe47010a09cbe.jpg

Dress it back and a bit of paint to cover.

IMG_20200621_131353412.thumb.jpg.299f9055ae709a321af2f6f42332f142.jpg

Then move further around the arch and remove the next issue.

IMG_20200621_140639246.thumb.jpg.ec040dacbf1f81540d6cfc602f1807d1.jpg

Needs a bit more cleaning up before making stuff to go back in.

I've been chipping away at this over the last few days but I kept almost tripping over stuff as I was trying to get on with it.

First I decided the angle grinders needed out of the way so I put this on the end of the bench on wheels.

IMG_20200623_102022235.thumb.jpg.360dfaac75efcd2c2ecb69fa9d4dd9fd.jpg

Loving the new welder.

IMG_20200623_102025750.thumb.jpg.5123afaf5f7162529b5699e69c517e93.jpg

Something like that will do.

IMG_20200623_102037092.thumb.jpg.90beb8f7092f3fed06176a2caaf6d999.jpg

But the cables are an issue, I know...

IMG_20200623_104201696.thumb.jpg.2dfad6bb69f25fc8c7ba04bec642f9c7.jpg

That works, next the welding trolley developed a wonky wheel, I needed a spacer between the wheel and retaining split pin so I had a look around and found part of a fallen soldier.

IMG_20200623_141426042.thumb.jpg.f1956ef66b56798d5b04af03d11c0799.jpg

Then the bumper, exhaust and other bits were in the way so I dug out some steel and got to work. I also moved the lathe over and created a bit more usable space.

IMG_20200624_135022525.thumb.jpg.3de7dc38169d24269ace2f416fd0ef63.jpg

Time to get on with the car. Previously I'd left it here.

IMG_20200621_140639246.thumb.jpg.207fbdfc5afca8ae194e8b303d8d398c.jpg

Knowing that this was going to be happening I've been gathering cereal boxes.

Making the piece required using three bits. Card deployed and some really handy little clips to hold them in place.

IMG_20200625_111126609.thumb.jpg.e09b52fc2d9175ab7e345eb65b94ba37.jpg

I need to sort out the flange on the end of one of the the sill panels.

IMG_20200625_124058246.thumb.jpg.617f75008f7ffa996d20adc4cda23b69.jpg

Piece cut and welded.

IMG_20200625_130839731.thumb.jpg.0d57ef26017cf0be5a0fb3f32cd5971e.jpg

After a bit of rough shaping I welded the two big bits together and tried it in place.

IMG_20200625_122708737.thumb.jpg.667e69c5995b3b935a24aa99fe5b7982.jpg

Then the flange was added, this was a 10mm strip that I used the shrinker on to get the profile required. Then they were welded together and dressed back.

IMG_20200625_122742978.thumb.jpg.524b736da0a84be679b44392f0a9133f.jpg

A few more holes were required so they were drilled out ready to weld

IMG_20200625_131253468.thumb.jpg.e09073f5b45429967028163bcf9c23d7.jpg

Welded in.

IMG_20200625_135440630.thumb.jpg.05d6c403694bd7d19fb16a80afd3dc49.jpg

I dressed this back.

IMG_20200625_142132971.thumb.jpg.9fcb1b67b7e7c1c7d016ec5688b01ea5.jpg

And a quick bit of paint was added.

IMG_20200625_142213687.thumb.jpg.2b15162f63e1f21a5a90ece6724e6a40.jpg

I'm really happy with the way that has gone today.

Some more will happen possibly over the weekend but more likely next week.

IMG_20200628_130426575.thumb.jpg.b2ffe957721545de4f636afcb56c5263.jpg

Put a bit of a bend in them.

IMG_20200628_130440893.thumb.jpg.e1dd00467cc157c9bca1ed096aae7748.jpg

Started sticking them together.

IMG_20200628_131021639_BURST000_COVER.thumb.jpg.14377fa4d95fcd0be9b09a5fd0ebba4e.jpg

IMG_20200628_132239185.thumb.jpg.46c051ac461ae787670f98d3ef462a00.jpg

IMG_20200628_131521372_BURST000_COVER.thumb.jpg.01d68b743500c88fa48ac270edd6c515.jpg

Chop out some stuff to make space for it.

IMG_20200628_134324068.thumb.jpg.ad083f159141e1799abf2b70b743541f.jpg

Put some holes in it.

IMG_20200628_134330606.thumb.jpg.4d20e763c501424ecc449b754ab8e8c3.jpg

Stick it in.

IMG_20200628_145020643.thumb.jpg.9e9b0b57ce14ba945512f9e81a4ed8a7.jpg

Move along a bit and start again.

IMG_20200628_153557433.thumb.jpg.7167660c931eb3a85af1363858a17a4e.jpg

Make the next bit.

IMG_20200628_155532536.thumb.jpg.e434e0add0029e4bcae8338ae688f5da.jpg

Dressed back.

IMG_20200628_160106215.thumb.jpg.ac6eca99cc5c7d7fb78341779f4e9053.jpg

Try it in.

IMG_20200628_160058471.thumb.jpg.bee80d487857a31606810c5b32df0535.jpg

Not welded in yet but some more cut ready for next time.

IMG_20200628_160944291.thumb.jpg.e045b9ee9a4b700064e763da8d943dc4.jpg

That's all for now.

That looks ace chap. Panels look very clean with no distortion.

This x100.

In the past I've lost patience while welding and just rattled a patch straight in then suffered the consequences and had to deal with a panel that resembles corrugated iron and doors that don't shut properly! This is very nice work indeed.

Still can't get over the condition of the car though. This would have been considered a completely rot free and mint example 40 years ago never mind surviving like that into 2020.

That's it ready to put in.

IMG_20200629_123828228.thumb.jpg.c19fc2c3b2bd942864f948edacfd4f97.jpg

Then it was a bit of repeat.

IMG_20200629_151202729.thumb.jpg.06ee6f946625ac2691912b697d965dce.jpg

Which brought me down to here.

IMG_20200629_155512592.thumb.jpg.4da96b4f2b7cf1b1dfe4027d1fb10a51.jpg

And the other side of the arch was at this point.

IMG_20200629_155515432.thumb.jpg.273bfec14c74d4b469dc2868e4b776ea.jpg

I hoped to get this finished off today so end of sill area first.

Cleared away all the stuff that was weak.

IMG_20200703_114832523.thumb.jpg.b9d41ca3a60be364c9fdf8141c4f1818.jpg

Treated the inside.

IMG_20200703_115700222.thumb.jpg.300d7dd45c7f9d702afa6cd674fbfeed.jpg

Used some card to give me an idea of the piece needed which was something like this.

IMG_20200703_115715797.thumb.jpg.e38fe11662dc253d5a992b0ee1f2902a.jpg

Quick bit of paint.

IMG_20200703_115705843.thumb.jpg.11c561dc8b3b6c11f504dee35e7c33c8.jpg

In the hole ready for welding.

IMG_20200703_114810844.thumb.jpg.ce503d87d3a989dd80ae7e459c11436f.jpg

Then welded, dressed back and a bit of paint.

IMG_20200703_140337479.thumb.jpg.af9223f85719330b28ed8a68c12ed6b2.jpg

Now just* the rear of the arch.

IMG_20200703_140340808.thumb.jpg.f4c083312edafe6c5a6901d2c0cda003.jpg

More panels made.

IMG_20200703_140342937.thumb.jpg.edfeeaf65e53f011adce94723c7de9a9.jpg

Bits at the back were a bit knackered.

IMG_20200703_152640775.thumb.jpg.125e285763be0e2a481be3f7f126a419.jpg

Flange replaced.

IMG_20200703_153423971_BURST001.thumb.jpg.7adfb14df394a515beb748f5a6dcee3e.jpg

Then the squared hole to the right needed a bit, I also replaced the flange at the bottom and the rest of the arch apart from the bit around the bumper mount.

IMG_20200703_160432466.thumb.jpg.8aeef6c8977e0ec4897bec660ea43ff3.jpg

That bit was done and dressed back.

IMG_20200703_163404918.thumb.jpg.deafd99717c2976f2bf2c7426d97a5f3.jpg

Then the last hole needed sorted. This.

IMG_20200703_163823804.thumb.jpg.183cd8d715022f203d39ab3e59a32c58.jpg

In and done.

IMG_20200703_170246399.thumb.jpg.f3e3848df6a86750d1c8325f57dafd7a.jpg

So that should be the rear arch done apart from the wing mounting nuts / holes.

I've been doing other stuff for a few days, when taking the bin out yesterday I noticed the exhaust on the Toledo wasn't sitting where I normally does. A quick look underneath showed some fuckedness.

I had a look online for replacement parts and the only system available if a stainless system through the club for £315. That will not be happening.

I took it to the workshop and up it went. I pulled off the tailpipe that was loose.

IMG_20200708_194942798.thumb.jpg.d73ae0a6154d762416dd6ba608c2acf2.jpg

It took quite a bit of effort to remove that. This is the bit underneath that is left.

IMG_20200708_194917184.thumb.jpg.3574ae64bec6f39340183d3f023cc35b.jpg

I checked the whole system and it is just the last corner and tailpipe that is knackered so some bits were ordered last night. Exhaust parts are surprisingly difficult to find on the internet and I couldn't find any others apart from Jetex that @dome had recommended. So some Jetex bits from Demon Tweaks at on their way soon.
