I bought the Scrote estate roughly 7 years ago from the original old boy owner after he had to give up driving. I think it had 68k on it at that time and is now up to about 80k I think. I passed it on to my old boy a few years back as it wasn't getting used much.

He tracked down a set of original Pepperpots for it(complete with Michelin MXV tyres), had some replacement dealer plates made up and has done the usual pottering to keep it up to scratch. We've done a bit of tidying to the rear arches a few years back and it need the front inner wings welding for it's last MOT.

Wasn't too bad, they all seem to go there. Was the same on both sides.

first_zpseafca6a4.jpg

Cut out the rot on both sides and treated in the legs with Bilt Hamber.

fourth_zpsa1bf7739.jpg

Then made up some plates to replace. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to welding and so ended up replicating the ribs and holes as per original.

Then finally the welds were knocked back ready for painting.

It's currently off the road for winter and the daft sod is thinking about selling it. I need to talk some sense into him.....

Right then, next on the shite front list is my daily.

20150513_200441_zpss55lkcun.jpg

Bought this about 18 months ago off good old ebay. Won it for £255 which was nice as I viewed it the day it was listed, offered the guy £400 and he turned it down!

I'm slowly restoring it back to 100% standard, you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find some of the bits! Standard Clarion cassette player took over a year to find and I've only just managed to get a full standard airbox set up.

When I bought it the engine was in bits after the headgasket had gone and the shell was rather crusty.

20140525_110950_zpscgrwqyvz.jpg

Blitzed it over the space of a few months, welded it up, resprayed the engine bay, rebuilt the cylinder head, new gaskets everywhere blagh blagh blagh...

Next item on the list with this little scamp is to get it back up to standard ride height. I've now managed to get hold of some genuine Peugeot front springs so when the MOT runs out in January I'll take it off the road and rebuild the suspension. But what to use as a daily when I do...hmmmm.

I did a rally day years ago near Bristol and they had a couple of these to practice handbrake turns.   Never been in one before and was most impressed, everything the 206 wasn't.   Would love one.

Got in the car and the instructor asked if i had ever done handbrake turns before, 'once or twice mate, once or twice'.

Right then ladies!

With the GTI coming off the road for some love in January, I need to get some wheels ready to be my daily.

Enter this MACKS POWAH hero.

20150816_130925_zpsitnu2gc3.jpg

1 of only 2 known VTS left in this colour, did a 400 mile round trip to fetch this shite! Idea was to put it away deep in a cave, collect loads of NOS bits while they are cheapy cheap and then magically pull it out again when the prices have gone nuts.

It's in cracking condition..

yup, 400 mile round trip I did for it...

Anyway, for now i'm going to do the absolute minimum to drag it back onto the road. It had been used as a track car hence the lack of interior and then the lad I bought it off had stripped all the last good bits off like the exhaust, wheels etc!

More shortly shite fans

So starting about a fortnight ago I stripped the front end down for better access to get the engine and box cleaned up and re-sealed as it was absolutely caked in oil and coolant.

So cracked out the mega cleaning stuff and got the block painted. Changed the rusty core plugs whilst I was at it.

20151101_153826_zpskarcmv9o.jpg

Dropped off the sump as it had been leaking like a bloody sieve! Splash of paint then refitted.

20151101_173734_zps85lspuh7.jpg

Fortunately I had an original exhaust manifold hanging around so invested in a new cat and centre section along with a nearly new back box I picked up from the brakers for something daft like £5.

20151020_191835_zpsp8o31owb.jpg

Some young chav was breaking a VTS in Sheffield so managed to pick up a selection of super rare bits for £20.(Air filter parts, manifold heatshield, coil pack cover). He thought I was nuts for wanting all this standard stuff. He'll kick himself in about 10 years...

20151022_211724_zps6vbl7qes.jpg

And that's where I'm up to at the moment. Hoping for a full weekends worth of tinkering this weekend!

Nice thread! Looks like your returning to original plan should pay dividends in the future. We have 3 French hot hatches (1 Peugeot, 1 Citroen, 1 Renault) but none of them are the same models as yours. Here's my old crock of a Citroen with no interior also, just in case you thought your looked a bit depressing:

Definately Jon, when I passed my test at 17 back in 2001 these VTS and 106 GTIs were common as muck and I hated them (I had a 2 door mk2 Escort...)But nearly 15 years later the nostalgia of my mates having these cars and the fact they are thin on the ground has made me realise nows the time to scoop a couple up, get them back to standard and look after them. They will be worth a bit in the future I reckon.

BONJOURZ!

Got a bit of time in on this old girl today. Spent the morning getting the toy box tidied up first though as it had turned into a proper dive! Can actually find stuff now..

20151128_151027_zpsdck92e3j.jpg

Ignore that Mk1 Escort, I think Bol has made more progress on his Mazzer than I have on that thing recently..

Anyway, decided to whip the thermostat out as the housing looked like it was the source of the coolant leak. Good job I did as the stat itself was awol.

20151128_151902_zps9trw1dew.jpg

Gave the housing a clean up and boshed it back on with a new seal, stat and bolts.

With all that connected back up it was time to start putting the front back together. When I bought the car it had some god awful angel eye headlights that some youth had fitted BCOZ IT LIKE AN M3 INNIT BRO!!!!!! The little plastic mountings were missing as well so they had just been nut and bolted in. Fortunately I still had an old slam panel hanging around from a previous car I broke so nabbed the mountings from that along with the standard lights.

All I want to do for now is protect the metal work as best as possible until it gets a full resto in the future. So I've taken that rust back to bare metal and splattered it in Bilt hamber tonight, then i'll etch, stonechip and paint it tomorrow all being well.

BONJOURZ!

Fancy an update? No? Well it wasn't you I was asking. NOBZ!

When I bought the car it was a track day warrior and as such, had no interior to speak of!

image.jpg5_zpseiuojobq.jpg

image.jpg4_zpsd5a95fum.jpg

Luckily a few months back I had a Mk1 Saxo knocking around not doing much. Before sending it over the bridge I robbed it of as much as I could. The interior itself was the wrong one for a VTS but the carpet, dash, headlining, sound deadening, roof lights, heater etc all came in handy. Wasn't much left at the end!

20150913_175850_zpsyamsty2a.jpg

So with the donor out the way I've cracked on with the VTS. Repaired the interior loom where bits had been cut away, fitted all the airbag wiring from the donor and installed the sound deadening along with the heater and ducting.

20150926_211604_zpsendwpm8g.jpg

20150926_213647_zpsndcncoh5.jpg

I was expecting it to be quite hard to find the original seats and door cards in good condition but I've actually ended up being really lucky. The original interiors on these usually get swapped out by "the young barry lads" as they look like your mums 3 piece suite from 1994. I like them!!

Fluked out by winning a set of front and rear seats on Ebay for £10(even more amazing is that the rear seats were the correct ones with headrests-VTS only!) and then last Wednesday a lad on Facebook got in touch as he had a set of the right door cards for £25. Finished work at 7pm then did a 180 mile round trip to pick them up!

Headlining and roof console in.

20151129_152042_zpstckfp5kt.jpg

20151129_151923_zpsplmcy3bm.jpg

Then to finish off I've got the dash in, all bulbs checked and an original Cassette player. Even got the immobiliser/alarm system back up and running!!
