Mk3 Golf GTi

Toyota avensis must be in with a shout as well surely

No way, 30,000 Dublin taxi drivers can't all be wrong.

Was the P12 Primera the one with the instruments on the passenger side?

Yup, along with the speak and spell heater controls...and stretchy timing chains. Laguna 2 is far superior IMO.

Back up a touch... FIAT Stilo. From the era which even FIAT forgot about.

Does anyone round here own one?

. I've got one,194k on the clock and no problems at all, still drives as new,I know I've been lucky with it but they can't all be bad.

From the 307 thread. So much hate and diswant that nobody wants one. However:

"Another for the (surprisingly short) list of cars too shite for Autoshite:

Laguna II

PT Cruiser

307"

This raises a few questions and further discussion:

"Fiat Stilo?"

"MG6, EFA"

"I'd have an MG6."

"And I've had a Laguna II and they're not a bad old bus."

"I'd have a Laguna II, but not an MG6."

"I love Peugeots, but I wouldn't touch a 307 with someone elses barge pole."

So I think we're all agreed that the PT Cruiser is too shite and the 307 is simply too shit to be shite i.e. there isn't a single good thing to say about them. Let's build this list - it can't be just two cars - what is it?

In all honesty I think that's the wrong way round, as surely the truly awful cars in life are the most Autoshitest? I am TOTALLY going to get a PMT Cruiser and probably a Laguna automatic at some point, just to see how goppingly awful they are, or are not, as the case may be.

We should celebrate the most dreadful cars by attempting to own some of them I reckon.

How about the Chevrolet Spark? Someone on here had one as a 'courtesy' car recently and it didn't even have a clock!

Although that's probably worth some sort of Autoshite award in itself.

Swansong Rodius?

Had a feeling that might be the case. Not all of them can be great but I've never heard horror stories about them - apart from 'a bit boring'. I had its predecessor (the Bravo) and apart from strange leccy bits from time to time, it was solid.

I don't think you should think about it too hard, if there's a good story with it particularly involving oily bits and/or a bit of an adventure I'll read about anything.

Can I run in, shout CORSA, and run out again before the deluge of beer bottles reaches me?

If not then I won't...

Hmm, I think that anything that makes itself out to be 'premium' is shit and not shite. In my head, shite is defined by a bit/very boring (or odd) to look at, reasonably inexpensive, possibly with a strange quirk.

I suppose the PT Cruiser would fall directly into that category. And Signums.

Shit cars (to me, anyway) are Audi S-Lines (and their bloody matching his n' hers mountain bikes on the roof) and this sort of thing...

or anything marketed as 'lifestyle'

These are future shite...

Anything with a DCi.

I can't fault my Dci

Mind you, i bought it with a fucked engine so perhaps you are right...

I reckon there'll be someone on here prepared to own anything if it had a bit of test & cost less than £250.

The aircon in PT cruisers is great and they are handy with the seats out, I bought one in JRG for the wife as we needed a car that day and it was the best one on the lot, twas alright I suppose, didn't keep it long though, swapped it for a Zafira.....

K12 Micra

Domestic Management had a posh-spec 1.5DCi for four years.  It was comfortable, bloody quick and well screwed together.  The Nissan bits were fine, the Clio bits broke with depressing regularity.  We only chopped it in because the keyless entry was getting cranky (Renault...) and it had some (Renault...) injector issues.

Doovla says it's still knocking about somewhere.

I agree.

I always vowed i would never buy something like a Lada Riva until i was stuck for a car, needed to travel from Kent to Nottingham in a hurry and one came up with tax and test for £30.

I just bought it and got on with it.

That was quite a few years ago now

Actually, that car was a real laugh to drive. i don't know what i had been bitching about for all those years

You are right,it is a bit boring but only due to its reliability,it's still on its original, clutch, exhaust, wheel bearings, turbo, gearbox, radiator, uses no oil or water and really goes well giving some of the 2.0 tdi brigade a surprise, have to say it's been the car I will most miss if it ever dies and I've had a LOT of cars, not that I'm bothered but the styling still looks contemporary as well.

K12 Micra.

P12 Primera

.

I'm not too proud to drive any Nissan, but I would walk before I'd own a PT Cruiser!

Those Laguna IIs might be hopeless but I reckon they are up there with the best looking modern cars of the last few years. Bet they're comfy and wafty too. DISQUALIFIED!

I think any modern Mini other than the first three door models have no redeeming features whatsoever, but that's just personal dislike tbh
