Most coulda shoulda cars didn't go anywhere because they were actually a bad idea. The one that baffles me why they have never done it is a proper MX-5 GT.

Not some lame assed metal folding top thing or that bloody stupid RF targa crap but a proper MGB GT style fastback coupe with a proper hatch and a proper load deck. Obviously they aren't going to give the emergency get home from the pub rear seat the MG had any more but wouldn't it be nice to have an MX-5 that you could squeeze the dogs in?

There was a factory JDM coupe, and a rather good looking thing it is too, a bit like a mini DB9 if you squint a bit.

Didn't get the hatch or any more space inside though.

Didn't LR had to pay Royalties to Montiverdi for each four door thereafter? 🤔

I hadn't heard that, sounds plausible though, seeing as they basically had to all the design and engineering work. I don't know if Rangies are different but my Land Rover has the absolute bare minimum of doors and it took me and a mate hours of buggering around just to get the door shuts even vaguely right.

It's definitely coming

https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/first-official-pictures/volkswagen/id-buzz/

VW Vans are already taking pre-orders for the commercial one. It's due in 2022 as a Buzz. Our fleet team are already talking to VW about pre=orders too.

If it comes in reasonably priced, I may well opt back into our company car scheme. It would absolutely suit our lifestyle - 2 people camping and dog!

The designed (and only one made) hot Mk1 Fiesta for the US market, made before the XR2 was a thing, The Ford Healey Fiesta...

ford-other-models-S4262746-1.jpg

That's the same Healey as in Austin-Healey and such. In short, Ford wanted to make a hot Fiesta to help sell the first gen in the US and asked some guy from Cornwall to help. Power was upped to 105hp and a host of other upgrades and tinkering was done. A hot Fiesta before the hot Fiesta existed.

If it got the green light for production sales, could have helped start a love for hot hatch's stateside? Or not...as in the 80's other attempts never really seemed to work on that front.

Did you learn about this from the 'Big Car' YouTube video last week? Never knew this was a proposal and I thought it looked pretty cool.

Maybe too invasive onto the Escort's and Focus' market share.

No, I've not heard of that. An interesting car fella on The Twitters shared the photo a few days ago. I can't stand Kas but even I like it.

That looks great, if not photoshopped.

It's not from anywhere; it's a faked photo (sorry)

Here's the real car:

Unbelievably it's still alive, taxed and on the road according to the plate checker.  Hooray!  Looks absolutely gorgeous and something I'd have in a heartbeat, but comes with the regulation three doors.

Indeed it is still alive - I snapped a few pics of it yesterday on the outskirts of Belfast:

Looks very much cared for - and I hope to see more of it, if it's local!

But yes - just the three doors.

Out of interest, where did you find your pic of CBE? Online search result, or is it a 'known car' in shiter circles?
