MrRegieRitmo
I would say the richest veins of tat across the south lie in 3 main areas....London in general, East Sussex/Kent & Devon/Cornwall. All of these areas spring plenty of surprises for enthusiasts.I know from personal experience how great a hunting ground Brighton is. I live along the coast in Bognor Regis & can confirm that Brighton, Eastbourne & Hastings are still all teeming with tat and along the coastal corridor joining all these towns. There's plenty to be seen.I would say probably that as you head westwards along the coast from Brighton, the level of shite decreases but I've still found plenty in the likes of Worthing. Here in Bognor the level of tat has become fewer & fewer since the Millennium as everybody turfs out the old & brings in the new. But there are still people like me who hoard it! Infact there's probably more than I think because I've always only been interested in 70s & early 80s cars so that's all I've paid attention to over the years, but since we're now including late 80s & 90s cars too then we're probably better off than I think. Infact in a few years when these later cars have also shifted to the brink of extinction then I'm sure they'll become very interesting indeed! ajcherry
As promised i bring you today`s offering of tat including the star find of a Fiat Ritmo, thought it would be badged as a strada, forgot to look whether it was left-handdrive,decided to make a rapid exit in case i got collared by the owner.Ford Fiesta 1.1lToyota Tercel 4wd came with the1.5 engine.Haven`t seen one of these for a while.Renault 4 over from France.Fiat Ritmo 105TC They were badged as Ritmo`s abroad and Strada for the UK market.Vauxhall Nova VAN on a J plate , newish but fairly rare. MrRegieRitmo
Don't know, but we went all through this when I introduced my cars 2 or 3 months ago. Mine's a V reg right hand drive Ritmo....only a lowly 1300 CL though!I'll try & find the thread.I think that later B reg MkI Strada you've also found might possibly be a 125TC.....reason being that the 125TC definitely crept in before the 130TC came along which was only on the MkII & yet that Strada MkI is so late it must surely have been a 125TC, as the 105TC would have ceased by then & the 130TC came in with the MkII.......correct me if I'm wrong? Is Brighton the Strada MkI centre of the UK? Surely 2 in one town is a record? Oh yeah sorry one's a Ritmo! But hey, with mine too that's 2 MkI Ritmo's within 30 miles! I'd be chuffed to find another R14 that near to me! MrRegieRitmo
http://autoshite.commlm/forum/viewtopic.php?t=706Here was the last time we debated how Strada's came to be Ritmo's & vice versa. Everyone seems to have a different idea. Personally I'm quite happy to have mine badged as Ritmo, it's more interesting.
ajcherry
I have to admit my knowledge of Stradas/Ritmos is limited. Both the Strada and Ritmo are both within quarter of a mile of each other and both on trailers.Would dearly love to track down a Renault 14.You certainly own two of the rarest pieces of shite. In fact your Renault 14 is the only one i ever seen in at least the last 15 years and that was at Bromley in i think 2005. I was in good company though with an 18, a 20 & a 16....oh and strangely a stray Opel Manta too! I can always guarantee seeing at least one other MkI Strada / Ritmo though because somebody also in the Fiat club owns one & is always at the shows with his 125TC Y plate MkI Abarth. Fantastic car it is, as I'm sure you must have noticed when you were there. There must be some kind of link between those two in Brighton, it's too big a coincidence that they're very rare cars, close together, both on trailers, both owned by somebody called Tony......ok forget that last one!I am in contact with another R14 owner who owns a lush grass green 1981 TS. We haven't met yet.....but one day. We were both looking for cars at the same time, & eventually we both got them. They're at opposite ends of the scale too, mine being a basic early car & his one of the last higher spec ones. I think he was doing a strip down & rebuild of his in 2006 (it's been a while since we spoke!) but I never thought it needed it in the first place judging by the pictures. The other one I know of is a wreck that lies in a driveway in my hometown in Hertfordshire although I haven't been back up there for a while. This one's even older than my one, reg no. VRO 613SBefore I found my car, my grand plan was always going to be to rescue it. I'm away with the fairies & hope somebody else still will!I did swear blind to this day that I caught a glimpse of a silver 14 in a side street whilst we were passing through Hastings on our way to Ashford a few years ago. It was only for a couple of seconds before my view of it was gone & I have nothing to back this up, but I latched onto the thought that I'd seen one.ajcherry, do you remember the free ad papers that used to be printed in our area every week. There was Friday Ad & also a dedicated one for cars called imaginatively....Car Ad. Both no longer printed, but all kinds of shite used to be advertised in the Car Ad papers from across Sussex & Kent. I used to love scanning it for interesting vehicles of which there were plenty. I'm only talking about 1999 that sort of time & yet there was so much more shite still around back then that cars such as Renault 18 still had their own listing section! How cool.Back in June 1999 a Renault 14 GTL was advertised & although I was only 16 at the time, I always kept the details in the vain hope of tracking it down when A) I could drive & I had the money. Think it was going for £375 & it was advertised as 'Enthusiasts Dream - Renault 14 GTL 1979, lovely condition, inside/out' Or words to that effect. It was a Polegate number I think. With cars like that lurking, that's why I have such faith in the abundance of shite over in that part of the country!
MrRegieRitmo
Saab(not sure what model)Don't suppose you can remember whether this 99 had a boot or a sloppy rear hatch like the old 900? nearly every single 99 spotted still on the road is the booted saloon, but the 3 door coupe's are never seen. Can't remember the last time I saw one. This looks like it could be one? But not sure.....
ajcherry
Yes i do remember the free Car Ad paper, also noticed there`s very little in the classic car section of my local Friday Ad, used to have loads of photographs. Can`t remember for sure if the Saab 99 had a boot or hatch, does look like a hatch from the photo though.I think i can roughly remember what road it was in so will try to get a rear picture to confirm its identity.I am attempting to scour all of the Brighton/Hove area for shite. The only way to do this thoroughly is to get out of my car and walk. It`s suprising what you spot up someone`s drive that you would otherwise miss in a car or on a bike.I try and be decreit when car spotting, camera in pocket and use the zoom if necessary.Only once have i been challenged with the words "oi what are you doing?" followed by "do you want to buy the car?" after i show an interest. Mr_Bo11ox
I reckon that 99 will be a saloon, as it is of an age when SAAB had already started selling the 900, and I reckon they only sold the hatchback versions as 900's then.
