Guest Lord Sward
Can anyone tell me how the hell Warwick bus station is still standing in Newcastle? It was useless as a bus stop back when buses were popular. I'm loving these photos, thanks pompei
HH-R
I'm not sure if it will be much longer, the metal uprights are just about rusted through in places! I wouldn't park my car in it (if that sounds odd to non north easterners, it's a car park nowadays).
Guest Lord Sward
Do you remember the thick clag chucked out by Bristol VRs, Metrobuses, Atlanteans and Olympians as they made the hill start with about 80 people on board with their shopping or their tool haversacks? The tops deck of which were already thick with cigarette smoke? The excitement as they stalled and the lights went out. I loved going to town with my mother for that bus stop alone. Have I mentioned Kathy Secker is a CHEESE PASTY?

Guest Lord Sward
How did they get away with knocking those netties down just before High Level I'll never know? They should have been listed. pompei
Jim Bell
Came across this on my googlings. I'm sure that few of us are fans of Speedway Motorbiking, and that people that don't live round the corner probably wont be interested at all, but I like this lads style. Jon
I found the keys to a D reg (from memory) TTTV LT van in some nook or cranny along a corridor near the canteen at TTTV one one of my many trips about the place, so chances are it was for the one above! Don't remember seeing the road that free of traffic at any time I ever worked there..... pompei
Jim Bell
One of the auld chod dealers that used to trade in the city centre near the Discovery museum. We used to walk down Westgate Road on a Saturday, look in all the motorbike shops, then have a look at this dealers stock and then the dealer opposite. Working out how much money we would earn after we left school and what kind of cars or bikes we could afford to buy, with no thought of insurance or fuel costs of course. Never did get a bike licence. Junkman, mercrocker, DVee8 and 3 others
chaseracer
Northumberland Street, the Toon's main shopping artery pre-Eldon Square Centre. In the pic, still the A1 Great North Road... Hence, in 1967, this! pompei and Junkman
Jim Bell
It's mental that the A1 used to go up Northumberland St. It's pedestrianised now. pompei

Jim Bell
Yes! And the Wankhouse theatre on Westgate Road that got burned out. Never had the intestinal fortitude to go in mind. Bet it smelled faintly of bleach. Junkman
loserone
I'd completely forgotten about that place. I can safely say I was strapped into the back seat when driving past, and have not been in either.
Guest Lord Sward
The model shop was something else. It claimed to be the oldest in the world or something. A real treat to go in and wander around. No, I never managed to go into Svens. The later shop never held the same appeal and now its gone tits-up. overrun
Just looked on Youtube, there used to be a video originating from the old polytech, of the ordinance vehicle travelling around Sunderland, during a survey. No sign of it now, shame. pompei
Used to hang around the Handyside Arcade when I was a kid, trying to be cool in the Kard Bar. Bought my first guitar in Jeavons. Still have it a hundred years later. Happy days ... Wasn't the sleazy picture house on Westgate Road called The Stoll? Always showing porno films. Went back a few years ago to see Wreckless Eric and The Rutles. Jim Bell
pompei
Not been back to Tyneside for years but am shocked to read that TTTV building has been pulled down. Is Mike Neville still with us? He used to be on Look North with George House. They did a recording of the Larn Yersel Geordie books which were pop[ular at the time. My dad met MN once and said he was partial to a drop. Guest Lord Sward
he was partial to a drop. Partial? Bloody understatement that. But he was reportedly hilarious and easy-going under the influence. Unlike a lot of celebs, he didn't shy away from the booze and it didn't turn him into a monster. pompei
