Is the honda civic coupe not a 3dr rover 45 ?

They did a vti too . The civic 3dr exists anyway , prob better than the 5 dr as it's built in japan not Swindon and are such a reliable car

No, Civic Coupe is based on the EJ Civic 3dr. I'm saying make a 3 door Rover 45/5dr Civic.

Like this with longer front doors and no rears.

I'm aware of the VTi.

I'm sure there was a factory prototype Humber Imperial V8 featured in Practical Classics a few years ago. It would have been great to have them go into production. The big Humbers were/are gorgeous cars. Adding a V8 would of made perfection!

It's always disappointed me that we never really got any RHD UK spec yanks. It would certainly of made getting hold of them nowadays a lot easier.

And a Volvo 142 and 242 in RHD spec would have been nice, but they weren't an option for UK buyers for some stupid reason!? And while we are on the subject of 2 doors, why oh why didn't Ford let the UK have RHD 2 door Granada mk1's and 2's?

Often wondered about the 2 door thing, I guess its never been a popular market segment in the UK, reserved for little'uns (and mostly so you could get in 'em....My 4 door Minor is a bloody pixie house for access). Even the bigger Opels seemed to come in 2 door variants although the Mk1 Cavalier looked good as a 2 door. The Corsair seemed quite common when they were new, too.

Here is another variant on the theme - this is a recreation of the Ford prototype that I believe was scrapped long ago. The original had a three-carb head and upmarket interior trim ....

My mistake - the later cars put on some serious bloat.

UK drivers might have enjoyed our Valiant Charger, though.

my dad had a valiant charger when I was tiny in aussie I would absolutely love one but more uk drivers may have had chance of one they did intend selling them in the uk but with the only engine option been the 318 v8 but they aimed it when we were in the middle of a fuel crisis not the best time to try and sell v8,s

In 1974 I picked up a Valiant and Charger brochure from our local Chrysler place , seem to remember they had a purple Valiant with a white vinyl roof in the showroom with the Imps,Simcas and Commers.

Two door FD Ventora with a V8 could have been  a British version of the Charger - but hindsight being hindsight - early 70's big fuel shit was occurring so a lot of the big car ideas

where put on the back burner and forgot

BMW Sechser Cabriolets were made, but like with the Dreier Cabrio by Baur, the job was outsourced to a company called ABC.

They were available through the BMW dealer network and came with full factory warranty.

Pininfarina made a 130 estate based on the coupe, the Maremma:

also a saloon:

Dario Casale made a hearse:

And at least one cabriolet exists. It was for sale a few years ago in Norway, of all places.

Bloody brilliant! Love the 130 Estate

the African ford perana's where conversions by basil green motors on mk1 capri & mk1/2 granadas.

couldn't understand why ford never sold 4x4 p100 esp how popular the hilux etc where, again the Africans offered conversions & a garage on the southcoast did around 10.

or as said crewcab versions,

dolomite 2dr & est?

escort pickups again Africa had mk3/4 replaced by fiesta versions in the 90's.

Vauxhall Corsa GSi came with lotus designed 1.6 capable of 130bhp. A Mantzel inlet opens it to 150bhp.

Would've been nice to have a Corsa 2.0 with an XE but it's understandable to not take away sales from the similar powered car, in this case the Astra GSi. Also things like target markets and insurance costs. No point in producing if you can't get the target group with insurance.

There are a couple of Mk2 Conversions kicking about, with various different door lengths. The worst looking ones are were they have just welded up the back doors, proportions are all wrong. Didn't the Mk1 Zeph/Zody cabrio come as a two door?

Doesn't that look like an Impala?

RWD Calibra

Stretch NSU Kettenkrad limousine

I would pay good money for one of those

Mk1 Convertibles were Zephyr / Consul only but indeed two door, as were of course the Mk2s. That yellow custom job presumably started life as a convertible, yes the back door welded up makes it look all wrong on a 4 door - bit like a Marina Coupe!

S Africa did a Wolseley with a plain Mini rear and I have seen an Elf with a fibresports Clubman front - it didn't look very happy about it. Somebody has done one but space is a bit cramped inside....

I am thinking of things like a GT version of the 105E Anglia - same as the 123E Super but less flash, more dashtop instrumentation, 1500 pre Xflow and decent seats.

As a small Ford owner this was the first one that popped into my head, too. But Ford never seemed to have much motivation to keep their smaller models up to date or to be particularly fast. Back in the day everyone questioned why the 100E had another sidevalve and why they didn't just stick the pre-crossflow straight in it, then the 105E rolled out with a steering box instead of a rack and pinion. They just seemed to keep the smaller cars as backward as they could get away with so that the cost remained low.

But, yeah, don't know why they never did a 1500GT Anglia. The engine had been around for a while by then, all the Cortina parts fit directly in the Anglia's engine bay and Ford also knew that the close ratio 2000E gearbox mated up to the back section of the Anglia/Cortina 1200 box. The car would have been an absolute stormer in the mid/late 60s and 100hp per tonne would have made it faster than practically everything else on the road.

so many people made this up themselves anyway, it might as well have been an option

Factory XR4x4 versions of the Sierra estate and P100.

It wasn't an XR4x4 in name, but the Ghia 4x4 estate existed. Insurance seemed to be very odd - like, the BX 4x4 Estate wasn't a GTi, but the hatch was - I think both were 1.9 injected engines. The Peugeot GRx4 was carbed, but they had the Mi16x4 when the BX never combined 16v + 4x4.

A lot of Japanese cars like the N13 Sunny/Pulsar had 4x4 variants, just not sold in the UK
